Homes Through Time! by Materie

[raw]
made by Materie for LD24 (COMPO)
Oh wow, so very, very incomplete. :D

The idea was to have the evolution part be part of the story; doing small missions to improve your current home. I barely managed to output one very, very short level, though the story really requires about seven, minimum :P

As such, not much evolution at all, nor is there much of a game to speak of.

There is also no sound.

On the flip side, though, I am fairly pleased with the graphics, although they could use a bit of polish, especially the hero. :P

Emm, about 20 seconds long. A man with some pixels not rubbed out enough to be transperent. And some terrible writing on a slanted sign. :| I don`t get it

What is this I don't even.
I appreciate that you entered at least.
But...
This...
I don't think this is really even a game...

5 for humor though.

There's a saying in software development: the first 90% of the work takes 90% of the time. The last 10% of the work takes the other 90% of the time.

I think that this is especially true in your case - you almost have a game here. All of the boring "mechanical" work seems to be taken care of!

In any case, good work!

Possibly a record for the shortest game? Did real life get in the way, or something?

Indeed it did. Had but one day to actually make it, as I only got planning done on day one. Didn't want to make a generic blob-game, nor did I want to do go the "make an upgrade game and call it evolution"-route. A game about actual evolution would be a bit beyond me, so I ended up with trying a story-based one. Then I spent almost all the time left on trying to make decent graphics. Gonna try and make a nice little postmortem about it, and since it's actually an idea I want to make, guess I'll spend some time on completing it as well. Learnt a lot, I did, at least.

Unfinished game, but think there is potential. Would like to see where you take it.

I played this game to the end! Would really have liked to see what you could have made of it. So sad it's too short.

Hi!

Yeah, I think the hardest lesson which Ludum Dare told me, was how difficult it is to plan time... so difficult. In my first competition I realized 4 or 5 hours until end, that my game will be not finished. And then I made a new and simple game in the last 4 hours. So if you think you won't be able to finish a game, my personal advice is just to make a very, very, very... (very) small one in the remaining time.

Humor 4/5 (I really laughed hard xD)

I find the art pretty enjoyable, animation is also very smooth and pleasent. Too bad for the extremely short game. Reminded me a bit about old DOS adventure games like Hugo.

Well, your idea was good, shame you couldn't finish the game.

Not much to comment on game-wise.
Your coding was neat and tidy, and you got a parallax background working.
Would have liked to have seen the wolf realised!

If you struggled making graphics / music in time, maybe look into using open source sprite libraries like http://opengameart.org/ and entering as a jam entry next time.
