Tiny Island by Zathnic

[raw]
made by Zathnic for LD23 (COMPO)
This is my first Ludum Dare, but luckily it worked out better than I expected! It's a Sokoban-like logic game where you need to push boxes out of the way or into the water to reach the goal! :P

The game is coded in core Java, without any libraries. I used Notepad++ to code and as tools Paint.NET, MS Paint and the Tiled Mapeditor. Sorry for no sound, but I didnt want this to trouble me in my first Ludum Dare. If I'm not too lazy, I will try to add sound in my next one ;)

-----

Story:
You are a star, and while flying around and exploring the universe, you fell down to a tiny island on a tiny world of water. Can you collect enough stardust and refill your star energy, so you can fly in space again?

Controls: Arrow Keys

The game has 8 levels, and a little surprise at the end!

I hope you enjoy it ;)

Nice looking game. Sokoban on an island. But it looks like level 3 can't be completed.

Very well done game. At first I was a bit miffed by the sokoban clone, but the "push blocks into water" mechanics was a nice addition to spice things up. Nice puzzles and graphics.

Music or sound were sorely missed :-) I hope you add them in a future version - a calm music will keep people longer in puzzle games.

It was a nice first LD, thanks for the game!

Yay! another good thinking game :D only thing i would like to see is some more movement, maybe just sea animation etc.

This game was fun. The second level was quite difficult and well done. This game could have greatly been improved by a few simple things: 1. mouse control, 2. Music & Sound FX.

Thank you for this.

Kinda simple, "seen it all before" gameplay. But well executed regardless.

Great level design, looks like you put a lot of thought into your stages.

I couldn't get past level 3, I assumed I just wasn't clever enough for it, though. :)

How are you supposed to get past level 3? Is there a way to push 2 blocks? Or is there something you can do besides pushing blocks?

And I thought I'd made the levels too easy xD But well, I've played games like this so often that these levels are a piece of cake for me :) You have to try a little harder, its definitely possible without any special tricks!

Thanks for the comments, btw :)

Not bad :) Was too hard though, I got stuck a few levels in :p Reminded me of Sokoban, but nice twist! Too hard! D:

***I'm posting this on all non-browser games I bring up in an attempt to encourage folks to make browser games next time around. Do not take it personally.***

When hundreds of people make non-browser games, that means that, to play all of the entries, I would need to download hundreds of games to my computer. I typically use OS X, so Windows-only entries are particularly inconvenient.

Please consider making a browser game next time.

Really nice job on the puzzle aspect of it. Gradually introduced more puzzle elements-- good stuff!

I like to think of this as a lightweight Sokoban variant. Pretty nice. Graphics are ok and functional.

@Suese
I can't imagine playing Sokoban with my mouse...

Fairly nice. No real issues besides the fact that this game has been done a lot already. :/

A challenging but quite addictive puzzler. I ultimately gave up on level 7 - it really pushed my abilities to optimize the layout.

Really cute concept here! Adequate graphics to communicate the ideas present, I feel, and once the water was introduced as interacting with the blocks my interest was quite piqued. It felt to me like a bit of an intersection between Sokoban and The Adventures of Lolo!

A nice little puzzler!

Fun Sokoban-clone. I really enjoyed the push-blocks-into-water mechanic, that was fun and definitely spiced up the formula a bit. :)

Being able to push blocks into the water definitely did nudge this game up a notch on innovation. :) Only got up to level 5, though.
