INKrease is a game about throwing paint at your opponent face !

The players, when hit by opponent, are covered by paint and spread it everywhere when moving. The main goal is to cover the entire area with your paint by using your opponent's movement.

Download & Play

You need to be 2 players with 2 controllers ! (sorry for this)

https://webster04.itch.io/inkrease

Control

  • Movement : Use left joystick to choose direction | RT to accelerate !

  • Shoot : Use RB to shoot

  • Refill : Use LB to refill weapon when it's recovering (you must be on YOUR paint)

Keyboard Controller coming soon !

Features

shooting

The avatar is shooting in the movement's direction, you have to HOLD RB, till you keep holding the input your gauge will decrease ! If it is empty you will be in OverHeat, then a cooldown start till you can start shooting again !

More you'r hit by your opponent in a row, the longer he will spread your paint !

Absorbing

You can reduce the cooldown of the overheat by absorbing your own paint when moving on it and using LB button it will reduce your territory so use it carefully ! :D

Movement

The avatar have some inertial movement, the movement is slow when you are on your opponent's paint, but the speed increase in your own paint.

Spreading

When you are hit by opponent shot, you will spread his paint color on the area, the scale depends on your speed, if you move fast the splat will be small, and if you move slowly, the splat will be bigger.

Foreseen

Gameplay

  • Add a timer to finish a game
  • Add some obstacles in the area (to challenge movement)
  • Balance shot
  • Work on Absorbing ratio
  • Add a dash

UI

  • Feedback when in Overheat
  • Feedback when hit by opponents
  • Better Gauge (it's actually not really full or empty)
  • Diegetic Information (Timer, Paint Gauge)

Graphics

  • Work on the avatar
  • Work on projectile
  • Work on the environnement

And so much more ! Please tell me what you think about this project, and which point we must improve !

Splatoon in 2D and for the PC. Nice One xD
Only thing is that the penguin is hard to control.

Ahah thx for the comment ! Yes we have to do some settings on the avatar, but you can master it, it's an asteroid-like controller ! ;)

Nice to see a multiplayer entry. The controls are very hard though. UI occupies the playing field, which I don't think is good, also controls aren't very responsive at some times. Keep it up though

Thx for the well feedback droy ! yeah we are actually thinking about more diegetic information, or UI linked to the avatar, for better visibility of the field !

We hesitate to keep control hard, cuz it's a real intention from us for the future, when some level design will be implemented ! maybe reduce the inertia, wich is quite high i admit :p

I love the idea of the splatoon like, but the lack of single player, and also the keyboard controls are killing me, I know this is a jam, but you have a cool concept here, maybe for the future if you want to keep doing things with this game, add some kind of ai to play with.

By the way, pause and main menu are quite simple to add and gives the game a good touch.

Good job!

@quemagalletas Yes we are going to continue to this, thx for your com !

We know that it's quite risky to require 2 player and 2 xbox controller, but it was more simple for us to dev :p And we lost a lot of time with the main feature (the paint).

We are working on a menu that is made to learn the players to move and shoot.
And yes. We will think about AI even it can be hard (and time cost) to do a nice one

Yeah I agree the controls are hard and I wish there was AI because I wasnt able to fully play it. However it is a really neat concept and reminds me a bit of splatoon. Nice work

The game is very cool and fun to play. I have played it with my sister like for almost half an hour. I just wish the map was bigger :/

Top-down 2D Splatoon for pc, with nice idea of gameplay. Definitelly needs more polishing, but its really fun!

The concept and idea and most of the (currently available) execution were great! Also I love those penguin sprites, they're incredibly cute!

Unfortunately the game would've needed most of the ideas you have for the post-jam version to be truly fun in multiplayer.

Don't worry, this work is for the After jam project !

i dont know... dont have gamepad. why make game for windows and only for gamepad?
Webster
05. Aug 2017 · 09:24 UTC
Because à jam is made to try gameplay fast, then develop the concept for many months

And actually if we put a keyboard controller it will be badly playable, because of the analogic controller for movement (like car game) | We are implementing one, we will see then

One of those ganes you try for a minute or two and then wake up after solid 10-20 minutes of pure fun. The graphics are nice, the flow is perfect, the title is puntastic. The theme isn't reflected much, in my opinion, but oh well. Overall enjoyment makes up for it greatly.

Sadly i didn't get the chance to play it with a friend, but props for controller support.
The controls feel slightly floaty. I am a bit confused by how the ink shot is supposed to work in conjunction with your ink meter. It doesn't take much to initialise the shot, however it just won't work when you're below 50%.

Another concern is that players could just camp in their own ink, because they won't be spreading more ink that way. They have to move over blank tiles in order to do so.

The hitboxes of the level borders are more or less accurate

The graphics are clean and rather minimalistic, but it looks cool how the ink spreads.
The ink tanks are a little in the way of seeing the level borders.

A small soundtrack would have been cool...
The sounds effects are a little rough.

But, i'd love to see more progression on this game. Thumbs up for 2D Splattoon. As of now it lacks a little, and obviously is not meant to be a single player experience.

"Another concern is that players could just camp in their own ink, because they won’t be spreading more ink that way. They have to move over blank tiles in order to do so."

if you do that the other player will aim you and you will loose your ink. If you'r not moving the ink splat will be bigger, and the movement are made to not be fully accurate so staying in your ink is pretty unpossible ;)

and if the player have the place to stay in the opponent ink, that mean he's just loosing the game :) so 0 interest to camp ;)

But what you say is logic if you'r playing alone, we are sorry for this low "accessibility" :(

Nice concept. The game is fun and is perfect for derping around with a friend. However the gameplay needs some tweaking. The penguin is a bit odd to control, the paint doesn't always spread properly (example: gaps created when absorving your own paint can't be refilled again) and absorving your own paint fails at times making you move through the map until it starts to work.
Really nice idea, will be a good game for happy versus sessions with friends when it's fully finished.
