Take the role of an emergency computer system in this short game. Click the image above to start!

You'll need a keyboard and some way to listen to the audio! Everything else should be explained by the game.

Made with Unity, Nima, op-z, Audacity, and freetts.com.

I came into this jam wanting to use Nima, and had to toss many ideas before I could find something that worked to its strengths. I found it really satisfying to turn some drawings into a full experience over the course of the weekend, and I can see myself using this workflow to make more games like this in the future! Feel free to leave ANY feedback below, I can take it~

MESSAGE FOR LD PURISTS

I realized there was a scene missing that makes the entire thing make sense. As part of my post compo-time bugfixes, I added this in. I REALLY REALLY REALLY think you need this extra 6 seconds of content before the game to have it make sense, but if you want to play the game as submitted during the deadline, the link is below.

Patch Notes:

  • 10:49 PM 2020/4/19 Fixed title music not looping. Added pre-intro cutscene.
  • 12:05 AM 2020/4/20 Fixed wording of prompts in game for clarity. Added supporting text to help anyone confused.

Cool game! The art's very nice and the game's quite fun to play. You could have maybe added in a few more conditions because the game was very short to play. But, good job!

interesting narrative stuff, also like the art style. Would love some sounds! The title music is great but would have preffered a silent title and in game music

@jonahsenzel Sounds were the very next thing to be added, I swear! I even already had laser sounds and sparking sounds ready :disappointed_relieved:

Thanks for your op on music, I wasn't sure if it would feel right in-game~

@jonahsenzel :smiley:

I found this method of storytelling really fun to work with, I really hope I can expand on this. Just a few sound effects would help me push the story so so much further!

Interesting concept ! I also worked with hand drawn graphics :smile:
Your game would need a little bit more polish (background music, better treatment for the drawings, more effects and stuffs on the screen maybe ?). The narration is great !

I quite liked the story line, very well written. And the art style is really nice as well. I would say, though, that there is a lack of audio-visual feedback. When I hit the flame I don't know what is happening, did I hit it or not, but it is a 48 hr jam so that doesn't give much time. Also, the gameplay loop gets a bit stiff after a while without a sort of lose state. In general, though, it's a pretty great and innovative game. All in all, the game is well made.

@gamegenesis Ah! Great feedback, thank you. It seems like it might not be clear that "simulation resetting" means that you lost and it's starting over. I think some visual progress bar would go a long way.

@munmungames Yeah hand drawn graphics!! :hand_splayed: So much more fun to split attention between a keyboard and some physical media.

The graphics are great! I think subtitles would be nice, but I undestand they probably weren't a priority :D. The gameplay is simple but fun, although, like you mentioned earlier, a progressbar would be a good addition. A great entry nonetheless!

@kontroman Thanks for playing! It seems like it's unclear how the X button works. The anti-matter stream (smoke trail) coming off the flame is what generates the win condition, so you need to keep it wide without letting it overload the system.

Really fun little game, could do with some metric on how 'well' you did (time to completion?) though!

Really love the visuals; very dynamic and reactive! I'd never heard of Nima, but will definitely give it a go after seeing this.

Great work!

@pke1029 :blush:

@chloeofarroyo I'm glad you found it fun enough to want to be scored :grin:

@qazikol https://rive.app I recommend it! It's like a free version of Spriter Pro with a more modern interface. If you're a Unity dev though the repo is a bit outdated. Feel free to hit me at me@aaron.work if you want some tips.

I like the art style quite a bit. I think the game relies a little too much audio, perhaps captions could work? I did have to play a few times to understand the game.

Hi! I'm here from the stream (planet_vano). Thanks for the feedback on my game, I figured I would give you some feedback on yours as well!

Overall I really like the concept. I think the back and forth management of the two controls could have benefited from being a little harder to keep up. I also think that a few simple sound effects could have really helped the immersion of the game. But all in all, I really enjoyed the short little concept there! Nice work!
