L.D. Phone Home by tsjost

[raw]
made by tsjost for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Aim your dish towards the other satellites in order to phone home, while making sure to not discharge your battery!
...who am I kidding, I just didn't come up with any better gameplay!

This is mostly a stress-test of my C++/OpenGL engine, that I'm using to create other space-related games, to see how well it's able to handle rapid prototyping/development.

I liked it, you can shoot through the planet which may not be intended 🤔, and the turning is a little finicky, but i liked the graphics and concept. Good job!

Pretty cool, trying to get aligned and remembering the buttons was challenging but rewarding when it hit 100%.

I got a score of 3.

Good engine test ;) Aiming at the sun was really difficult (for me), and it was hard to keep up the satellite shooting while maintatining the battery!

I think I managed to gimbal-lock the satellite a few times there - I'd have preferred the satellite rotation controls to be more quaternion-ish rather than euler angles. It'd be more realistic, too, not having to have a big global Up and Down in space. But then again, it would make the WASD aiming more difficult... Also: I did like the tricky balancing act of keeping the satellite pointed at the sun versus actually trying to score points. Good game!
