Erosion by ChewieCB
A speed-based 3d platformer where your body decays as time goes on, but you gain speed and unstable new abilities the closer you are to collapse.

Use yellow orbs to repair yourself - making you solid enough to trigger pressure plates, and use pink orbs to destabilize yourself - making you more agile but closer to collapse.
This is a fairly small gameplay prototype of the concept we thought of for Ludum Dare 49, started strong for this jam but an animation workflow issue jammed us up on the final day and we had to cut a bunch of art assets right before the deadline unfortunately.
Thanks to Owlmoss for the great art, and Lachlan James for the fantastic sound & music.
Known Issue With Running The Mac Build
Due to macOS not recognizing the file attributes the mac build of the game can raise this error:
"Erosion" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the trash.
If you’re feeling techy you should be able to fix this yourself by running this command in terminal to clear the file attributes:
sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /path/to/game/executable.app
Less than ideal, but I don't have a mac to hand to properly fix this atm.
Controls
- Escape to return to the main menu
- Backtick force quits the game (it's left over from debug, I'll remove it soon - try not to press it by mistake)
- R to quick-reset the level
- WASD to move
- Space to jump, press again or hold to climb over ledges within range
- E to use any repair pickups (yellow orbs) you collect to make yourself more solid
- Q to use any damage pickups (pink orbs) you collect to make yourself more unstable
- Over time you become more damaged, moving from Solid, to Damaged, to Eroded, and eventually falling apart
- The more damaged you are, the faster and lighter you are
- Pressure Plates trigger nearby doors, you must be Solid (Blue) to activate them
Double Jumping - If you are either Damaged (Yellow) or Eroded (Red) you can jump again in mid-air
Air Dashing - If you are Eroded (Red) you can hold shift in mid air to aim an air dash, aiming with the mouse and releasing shift to dash - You can air dash through grated walls in the Eroded (Red) state

Really like the overall aesthetic though, dark pastel colours and thick rigid shapes suit the game.
I think the gamewith a bit of polish has a lot of potential.
Good job, though! Really enjoyed this one :)
@pablo-lario there is actually coyote time in the code but there's a known issue where it tends to be inconsistent, just ran out of time to fix it in the jam unfortunately.
@python-b5 the camera clipping through walls is a known issue we just had to live with for submission, in the end it was either have a camera that controls accurately but has no collision or a camera with collision that tends to bug out and get stuck in annoying places - so we went with what felt better.
thanks for playing :)
We had to cut the awesome original player models Owlmoss made due to our animation workflow breaking on us right at the end, but I do love this rigging glitch

`sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /path/to/game/executable.app`
Not the easiest setup I know, but I don't have a mac computer to hand to fix this properly atm :(
it's perfect for something made in 72 hours :O
Nice graphics choice :) fits good with the music
A bit more of the awesome art Owlmoss made that didn't quite make it in. Was hard to say goodbye... for now :(
Also good choise of music
Well done!
