Mob Defense by AStrayRae

[raw]
made by AStrayRae for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

Play it over at itch.io at https://astrayrae.itch.io/mob-defense-ld51 You can also find a somewhat polished version over at https://astrayrae.itch.io/mob-defense

Made for Ludum Dare 51! Didn't finish a lot of the things I wanted to implement, but in the end an actual playable game came out. I streamed the process live at https://twitch.tv/astrayrae.

How to play:

  • Drag attacks around until you feel happy.

Example play:

Things that I would have liked to have had time for

In decreasing order of importance: - Not have "(Clone)" stand behind every dang card... Yeah kinda forgot about that. - Sound! - More Effect Variation - Grass / Rocks, current the ground is a bit empty - Interface improvements (icons for the card effects, make clearer that cards outside the panel are still active) - Letting the player move the cards in the left panel around. It only half works, so I turned it off. - More effects, target types (cones), just more card parts. - Auto generation of cards, currently every card is manually set up (and some are kinda op). - Lighting - More enemy variation, more enemies, armored enemies etc. - Making the different defenders do different stuff/ be good at different things. - More Progression

I really love the idea as you created a super unique mechanic that I would love to see become a full game (it kind of reminded me the game Noita's wand creation). As you are well aware of in to your To-Do section, the game doesn't feel like a complete game, instead more like a concept. I truly hope you continue this game as I see so much potential. Keep up the great work!

I think you should swap Sound to first in order of importance! You're missing a lot of potential to make your game greater when you leave out the audio. It's a whole human sense you're not exploring!

Game was good but I confess I didn't quite understand how swapping cards really worked, I felt I was missing some "cards" sometimes.

At first was scared of the wall of text but it turned out to be quite fun

I like the concept a lot! The biggest "flaw" here is that it still feels so rough. Obvioulsy that's just up to the limited time. I can totally see this as a very fun and unique game if it was released in a polished/finished state!
Either way, it's already fun and I can see a lot of potential. Well done :)

Nice concept! 192s was my best run. Reading the cards whilst the enemies were attacking got real stressful

A pretty fun game for me. The only problem is that I cannot read all the attack instructions before select&drag a better one in 10 seconds.
