The Cold Equations, Adapted
So, I hadn't planned on doing Ludum Dare this weekend. I didn't even know it was happening until Wednesday. I was looking forward to a nice, relaxing weekend break from my new, difficult job. But the theme was "Sacrifices Must Be Made" and that's the best theme I've seen in ages. On Thursday, I had been talking with someone about one of my favorite sci-fi short stories, "The Cold Equations" by Tom Godwin. It's a story with huge emotive power surrounding a terrible situation. And it fit the theme so well. I spent only an hour trying very hard not to join the Dare this time, to give myself a break, to rest. Coincidence conspired to have me create a digital adaptation of the short story, and here it is. I did my best to tap into the powerful emotive presence of the short story, but I think I barely scratched the surface. Enjoy.
