Dark corridors…

This is looking to be my most successful Ludum Dare (which may not be a surprise to anyone familiar with my other disappointing attempts). This time around, the idea came to me like a well deserved slap in the face and I got to work straight away. In only 3 hours, I have randomly generating corridors, not awful art work and some VERY early work on the actual character programming.

Alone in a corridorMy idea is a reversal of the usual, over-done horror game in which you are running away from some description of monster, collecting things and awaiting a jump scare… in this game, you get to jump out on the unsuspecting ‘hero’ before he manages to loot the tunnels and escape. The game works on the idea of hiding around corners to catch the ‘hero’ when he least expects it. You can ‘smell fear’, so the ‘hero’ is far easier to find when scared… however, when the ‘hero’ is scared, he is too alert to fall for the average jump scare.

Your goal, as the monster of the tunnels, is to make the ‘hero’ quite literally soil himself… that’s how you win.

Good luck, everyone!

Damn it looks a lot like my idea (playing a kind of mummy fighting and scaring adventurers). Not very surprising though : reversing an over-done kind of game (this kind or an other) seems an obvious idea with that theme !
