Freetalk about The Art of Chernobyl

LD51 is finally coming to an end, and I would also like to talk about the art production of our game here.

As you have already know that the Chernobyl incident inspired the game.

When I first heard about "Chernobyl Biorobots ", I was speechless with shock.

The deadly radiation levels made the robots unworkable, and human beings could only work in this environment for a few minutes or even tens of seconds at a time. They had to put on 30 kilos of protective equipment, climb several floors to the top of the building, only to stay there for only 40 seconds and shovel two or three before leaving.

In this game, I want to express that Every ten seconds, everyone's ten seconds, are all incredibly important and mean a lot to humanity.

About the color, I used black and white as the main tone to express the seriousness of the theme. Yellow represents radiation, red represents blood and sacrifice.

The white line on black background is the "floor plan and building construction that you knew", and the black line on white background is the "damaged site that the soldiers explored and reported to you". It creates a contrast and increases the tension of exploring the unknown in the dark.

In the lower right corner are some words of encouragement to the soldiers and with some "moral abduction".

About the design of the character avatar, I did not use photos in protective clothing, but life photos. And I insisted on having a name for each of the characters. I want to emphasize that those "bio-robots", are living humans, not real robots.

My team love this game and we all have the intention to continue developing it.

The middle scene part, each level is different in size and location, it is not convenient to use 2D sprite, and if drawing without perspective or with parallel perspective will look very rigid. So I consider trying to use 3D modeling + TOON shader in the furture.

Please feel free to play our game and share your comment :P https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/chernobly

Thank you!
