My personal experience of making a game in 28 hours and with nearly no experience in a game engine

Hello,

I’m Timm638 and i made the game “Unnamed game”.

First i want to point out, that i am currently collecting names for my name and select the best and let you vote, which should be used : http://goo.gl/forms/WDKU1NO4vl [Name Collection].

It’s been some weeks ago when i remembered on a saturday, that there is the ludum dare? I tough now what game engine? I could use Unity or Game Maker[Which i have chosen because i have made already a test game in it].

In the evening of the first day, i made graphics and the tile displaying system, which had error.I have fixed the errors on the morning of the second day and then i started the fun part, the world generation. Quite simple, it will choose a spot on the left side and will generate a integer from 0 to 3. When it was 1 or 0, it will flow forward, if 2 or 3, it will flow left or right. And now i added just 2 lines to add the forests and now the world generation was complete.I continued adding features and i have threw a feature away because it didn’t wanted to work. Instead of this, i added the Descriptions. After that, not much happened, i have added the resource system and then on the evening, i made the sounds with PXTone and added them.

My Experience from this :

-I can make a game if i am motivated

-Writing a 330 lines of code took ~12 hours*, resulting into 27,5 lines per hour, 0,45 lines per minute or 0,008 lines per second.

-Getting good Critic is rare

Let’s hope i will make a better game.Oh, and i will make a post-compo version, but first when the voting ends!

*Including writing it, making art and brainstorm
