Today is for Gameplay

The idea came to me really quick this time, and I was able to spend the first couple hours of the combo brainstorming mechanics and visuals. Before going to bed, I was able to get a yellow rectangle moving around on the screen with a nice little charge jumping mechanic. I spent way too much time tweaking a pixelated gradient for the background, and re-acquainting myself with flixel/as3, but I think I’m in a good position for making progress today.

You can check out my repo here: http://github.com/dgbrown/ld48-24

So, keeping yesterdays mistakes in mind, I’m going to completely ignore artwork today. If I can manage to stay focused and avoid clashing with flixel too much, my feature set should look like this:

  • simple blocky tile-map levels
  • dangerous coral and under-sea heat-vents
  • tasty coral, and mineral deposits to collect
  • locations and npcs to deliver collected resources to
  • bubble gun to defend yourself
  • encounters with enemy faction of mutated fish-people

And… with any luck, tomorrow is for artwork, polish, and packaging!

Maybe I’m being too ambitious, but I guess we will see. This is my first ld48, and I want to make a splash.
