Ludum Dare 53 April 29–May 2, 2023

Obligatory I'm in post and whatnot.

Time for my 23rd LD entry!

I'll be streaming my progress over on Twitch!

As a side note! Make sure you brush up on how to publish Web versions of your games! Due to the increase in viruses being spread in "demo" games recently through things like Discord. It's really important to make sure you make a Web version of your game as very many people are now hesitant to download any games! So this is a reminder to go read your engine's docs and find out how to do that!

LEEETS GOOOO!!!

I'm promising myself to finally follow through and make a game this time! Totally unprepared but I'm going all in this weekend. Gonna be a bit painful, haven't quite committed to Godot as I'm interested in trying phaserJS since I ultimately want to build web games anyway. final tech stack probably gonna be html5 JS and msPaint, XD. GLHF everyone!!

Innnnnn!

I've been dying to do LD for years. Super excited to finally be able to do it. I'm an avid jammer and jam runner who hasn't done either since 2019. It's gonna be messy and fun!

Using Unity and who knows what else.

Godspeed jammers! Can't wait to play your games!

and here...we...goo

No idea what I'm going to do, very unprepared but hey why not!

I'm in?

Never done this before but me and my friend are extremely excited. I guess these posts are obligatory?

Good luck everyone!

Entering in a team of three, first time doing that for LD. Hoping to make something cool, good luck all.

Im in!

This is my first Ludum Dare Game Jam! I'm looking forwards to seeing all the games people make! Good luck everyone!

YEAH BABY!!!!!

Good Luck Everyone, this is going to be a great Ludum Dare!

HYPE! Not quite prepped but HYPE!

Angel and I uhhhh.... released like 8 things this month, which means I'm SUPER practiced at the moment but also KINDA EXHAUSTED lol.

I'm a tabletop creator so I do the jam, not the comp, which at least means my normal plan of "chill while thinking about the theme and then get rockin on Saturday" should still work 🧡

This time around, instead of just doing a print-and-play, I'll also be making a Screentop version (screentop.gg). It's basically an engine that lets people play it online, so while I'll be coding it a bit and putting my game into it, it's not MY engine. If I get it done during the jam, awesome. If not, it'll be a post-jam thing and at least people can experience it without printing if they wanna (plus I need the practice using Screentop).

I hope everyone has an awesome time and that there are loads of epic games to play during the ratings period!!! 🥳🥳🥳

Feeling pumped!

First time I'll be participating in LD, lets see how it goes...

Good luck everyone, I look forward to seeing what you all come up with!

I won't have that much time, but I'll try to finish my game! I'll use Unity 2D. Still learning it and not really at ease with it, some things are not intuitive for me on it, I used to develop on other programming languages. For the art Paint.net, Procreate and Affinity on iOS. Not sure I'll use AI. If I do, it'll be a jam game then. For the music, Garageband probably. Good luck, have fun!

Come to Mastodon to talk about gamedev and LD

If you're looking for an alternative site to Twitter (and this one) to talk about game dev, game jams, LD. Come to one of the gamedev Mastodon instances.

Personally I have found the communities there smaller but even more active and willing to engage with each other, and the big plus that not having a profit incentivized algorithm running the site makes your content actually reach people.

For my 14th consecutive Ludum Dare... Wow. Best of luck to all!
Instead of listing software I'll be using I made a list of free/open source software for game jams.. it's called JamTips and it's available here.. 48A10377-E6AB-447E-AAD4-3A8C160C7CBD.jpeg See you all at the finish line ;)

Good luck everyone!

Going solo this time :) Lets make some cool games!

Update to my Base Project (just a lil raw)

I'm in the process of updating my base project before the theme is annoucned. I was ALMOST THERE. Anyway, I'll tweak it later but it's 99% to where I wanted it.

I improved the menu navigation and asset organization. I also added in placeholders for Newgrounds.io (thought I think you'll need to download that separately if you want to use it).

Anything you don't want to use can just be deleted, so I figured less is more.
