Fave Games of Ludum Dare 41: Part 1 of ???

132bf.gif

I played Toby Gawk early in the voting period and I'm still chuckling about it. Any copy with the phrase 'hella mouse controls' should tell you straight up that you're dealing with some quality writing. Immediately into the game I'm being blasted with MIDI punk that's bpm was still high enough to trigger flashbacks of my younger years in some dive venue getting shoved around by a hundred other bodies in a room meant to hold 20. The score counter is always ratcheting upwards and it somehow makes rushing from one gawking-target to the next extremely funny. The spirit of this game gets 5 outta 5 sick kickflips. Small update

Hey guys!

Just pushed a very small post-jam update that should make Cyclevania a * little * more convenient for the player.

Before, when you died you would have to basically play the whole * whole level * over again to get the key. Now, the keys persist after death. :]

[DARK SOIL] Some gifs from the game !

Hey everybody, LD41 was one of our best jam experience, the theme truely inspired us and it looks like this is the case of a whole part of the games we already tried. So many gems !

We introduce you DARK SOIL,

"when DARK SOULS meets a Garden Game"

Play DARK SOIL

DarkSoilGameplay_optimized560Less3MB.gif

In Dark Soil you embody a retired knight that wants to cultivate his garden of dangerous vegetal species.

You have to plant seeds on dirt tile to earn some souls and level up.

But be careful of the aggressive mob they spawn, kill them to earn new seeds and grow your garden

2emFRUIT/emALL.gif

Use your watering can to grow your plants (and get some water by staying on water tiles)

We won't forget about rating your game 🤞

Free tonight for more ratings!

Hello guys.

I'm available tonight to test some of your games (web based are better due to my network, but you can send your link anyways), and I'd like to get feedback on mine if possible.

I've been really surprised by a lot of games so far and I really want to see more. I have a preference for fast paced games, but I could test anything that is not too much text-based!

To check out my entry, here is the link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/shady-cards

You can comment this post with a link to your game, if it's web or not, and also with its theme. You can also feel free to tell me whether you'll take a look at Shady Cards or not; do not feel like it's mandatory, I'd like to get feedback, but I'll test your game even if you don't test mine.

Cheers!

Check it out!

Come check out my first Ludum Dare(48 hours) game! Tell me what you think.

#1 TakeOut

Sometimes Life gives you lemons and other times Ludum gives us an Overly ambitious Project to do in just 48h. This game was by far the biggest in term of scope that i've ever attempted to make in Ludum. In fact there were a lot of first for me, First time trying my hand a procedural generation, first time making a bullet hell , first time working with water color aesthetic, first time not eating for 37h. I made alot of mistakes along the way but I think I grew as game designer, programmer.

This is What I achieved https://youtu.be/lvEbJduNS9s

I would consider this project a half success in many ways, sure I have a game but its not complete. No Music, No Sounds, Not camera shake when taking damage, No Enemy Sprites, No button FeedBack, No more complex generation, no to a lot of things I know I am capable of executing if I had the time.

What I did achieve is beautiful and chaotic only a game made in 48h could be. I am poise to say this project was all about pushing myself to my limit and not holding back any punches. I would have loved to fully realized my vision for this game and push further then that but I only got 50% there.

I cant wait for the LD 42, where I hope to achieve greater things. Consider playing my game and giving me Feedback https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/number-one-take-out

Dementia + Memory???

dememtory.gif

Trying to come up with the weirdest non-mixable genre possible I finally fell for the idea of crossing the sickness Dementia with the classic card game of Memory! What could possibly be a worse match? It also makes for a very surreal experience, and I am a sucker for anything surreal.

I got some very positive initial response, and got to work.

Turns out Dementia is anyting but a laughing matter. The story got a very dark. About aging and shame. Both my grandfather and grandmother had it so I based the story from that experience (and from a bit of quick research), but mind you that I'm in no way an expert on the subject.

So the tricky part: how do you make a good ending? Dementia isn't something that you just wake up from.

In the end, for not being a writer, I'm super proud of the final experience! I've gotten a lot of very positive feedback.

You can try the game here (so far windows only, but planning on porting to mac before end of rating period): https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/dememtory

Can you win a race while being idle?

I chose Idle and Racing (and also retro). I get my inspiration from cookie clicker but I added a racing aspect to the game. My friends seem to enjoy this game, and you even get addicted to it if you play it enough. There is a grind at the beginning of the game, but once you get your first engine the game is smooth sailing! Try to multitask, leave the game alone, see how far you get! This game has an undefined ending when you get everything upgraded, but I plan to update this game because it has so much potential. Just remember to give the grind a chance before you give up, Enjoy!

Pixel Art Timelapse for Guerrilla Gardening

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SULiHU5i3pU

I put together this timelapse of the art for my entry, Guerrilla Gardening. There's also a playthrough of the game at the end. I've been getting some great feedback and I'm looking forward to incorporating some of it, and some of my original overly ambitious ideas, into a post-jam version.

In the meantime, please play and rate Guerrilla Gardening here if you haven't already! Thanks so much if you've already done so! Also drop a link to your Mac/Web game in the comments and I will try to play it during the week.
