Thank you for reading this important update.
Hello everybody, I'm here to drop a very important announcement.
UPDATE TO THIS ANNOUNEMTNCE: Maybe if enough of you show support of giraffes my team can be convinced thank you very much
I will be back, participating in the 54th version of Ludum Dare. Sadly I must also let you know that I'm not 100% sure whether I can convince my team to include giraffes in our game this time around.

Thank you for reading this important announcement. Godspeed to all of you!!

Did you know our game keeps dash momentum if you jump out of a dash? Allows you to do quite some cool things! While not necessarily required in any of the platforming, it's still awesome and helps you go quick on our built-in SPEEDRUN MODE (skips cutscenes - besides the final one - and only runs the timer when actually playing. Loading not included!). Current dev record is 4:41, but can definitely be improved!
Try our game here!

Have you made it to the end of our game? If not, I'd like to remind you there IS a level skip button (F2) that allows you to skip levels and just play through the dialogue! This way you can still experience the story and especially the end-game cutscene if the game itself might be too challenging for you! Can't guarantee you won't cry! (Some streamers - I won't call names, did :) )
Try Safe Space Passage now!
(If you HAVE played through all of it, please avoid spoiling anything <3 )
Hello
I have arrived to share with you an important announcement. I will be participating in Ludum Dare 55
I will be using Unity, Aseprite, Audacity, Famitracker, notepad+, a lot of pringles, and some monster energy.
For this jam I'll be working solo for my first attempt at compo (my team is AFK :( it is what it is). This means nobody can stop me from involving giraffes.

Thank you for reading this important announcement.
Hello everyone
I have an important update.
My game has a giraffe once again

Thanks for reading this important update
Hello I heard you guys like screenshake?!

So yea- here's my game :)

Compo scope creep is real- and that's me saying it even though I got a whole lot done :D
Now time to sleep for 24 hours. See you all on Tuesday!
Hey everybody!
It's me again, Kepsert, Giraffe fanatic, and developer of the compo game named Phasebound (markup links don't seem to work atm, will get back to it soon? Phasebound

I just wanted to share a couple of thoughts when it comes to level design. First some basics:
Now, the levels are pretty short, but it's still quite some content to go through (most of the time is taken from the fact that main mechanic is rather uncommon). Now, one of the things I struggled with the most was anti-cheesing these levels. Making players follow the intended route as much as possible. How am I, in a game that gives the player almost unlimited freedom to travel all over the screen as they choose, during a compo that only lasts 48 hours and with basically no playtesting, going to get rid of as much potential cheese?
Well, I sat on this for a long time, approximately 2 minutes, when I came to an answer which I will now share as a tip to y'all:
Players are going to find cheese. Players are going to find skips. We use the data of those moments to either patch it out, or leave it in for speedrunner purposes (especially if it doesn't ruin the game from a casual perspective). Instead, for the jam, I made sure that potential places that would allow for cheese (mostly due to my own design flaws, 48 hours isn't a lot of time!) would not end in a softlock.
I welcome you to try different routes, find speedrun strats, find skips, and share them! Found anything cool that seems off from the recommend path? GIF or record it and drop it in the comments at Phasebound

Anyway- if you haven't yet and you're looking for a platformer that people seem to enjoy (commenters would never lie, now, would they!?): give my game a try. It's called Phasebound and it's got a giraffe.
PS. Looking forward to the end of the jam deadline- will be playing through games on stream tomorrow after work and then most of Wednesday. Good luck to y'all on the final stretch!
Hey everybody!
I just wanted to give another shoutout to all of those who tried out my game Phasebound - I appreciate all of you and the feedback I've gotten!
On top of that, I just wanted to share this little picture of my monitor- my little mascotte given to me by my best friend who doesn't understand why I'm obsessed with giraffes yet continues to fuel it. If you don't have a little mascotte sitting on your monitor... can recommend!

Hi
I just wanted to let you know that due to recent developments in my personal life, I am yet again able to join the Ludum Dare game jam. However, I might not make a giraffe game this time around. I think it's time to discover a new side of me.
Thank you for reading my importnatn updaet.

Thoughts?
(It wasn't meant to resemble Kirby, I'm just a terrible artist and the best I can do is blobs)

Hi hi! Just a heartfelt appreciation post towards the community-
I've been actively participating in LDs the recent years, but this one- I was going to skip! (Yes, it's crazy!) Today, it would've been my ex's massive birthday party- I had prepared for big surprises, treasure hunts with riddles and snacks, hired a small bouncy castle for us (and her daughter) to unleash our inner childs in, among other things! I was going to make sure she had THE birthday of her life, for THE woman I was going to grow old with- and it was worth skipping LD over.
Unfortunately, she decided to break up just a week prior to this birthday.
Didn't see that one coming, hurt quite a bit, but at the same time I thought to myself "Hey, at least I can join LD now!"
Turns out that doing a game jam while coping with such grief is really just copium haha. My brain's running blanks, and my thoughts are just drifting off the entire time. Even though I'm working on a game, I'm afraid I'm going to have to take tomorrow off and maybe just let this LD slide after all without submitting anything, simply not satisfied.
HOWEVER, I do want to give a big shoutout towards y'all in this community. This is by far my favourite jam community, and the wholesomeness of y'all, the support from everybody, the amazing progress posts on the feed... keep it up! This is what I'm here for! Those things alone have been helping me get through today, a day that until recently I expected to be completely different. Thank you all <3
And if anyone else is struggling with grieve, whether it's from some sort of breakup, or perhaps someone passing away- keep it up. You're doing great, and things will get better!
Good luck to y'all jammers and looking forward to seeing your submissions.
Goodnight!
I have come to share an important announcement:

I think plenty of people know what this means by now. (The giraffe is my way of saying I'm in)
Thank you for reading this important announcement.
First of all, congratulations to all those who got their submissions in! Another jam down, plenty more to go! Second of all, thank you Mike for still running the Ludum Dare! I'd been looking to participate in one again but sadly I missed it last time, then heard this one was getting cancelled after all.. but here we are! I hope things will get better for you soon, and thanks to everyone else who has supported Mike in getting this Ludum Dare going. It's been a great weekend!
Lastly, of course the self-plug:
To The End Of Time is ready to be played! It's been a while since we attempted 3d in a game jam, and one of our teammembers was also brand new to jamming (he was very stressed out). He did a great job on all things music/sfx either way, make sure to applaud him to boost his ego a little!

One of my favourite things during this jam was working with neat little audio effects... slowing down time, reversing the music, fake speed-ups into a further part in the song or back? Proper intro loops seamlessly flowing into the main loop? It's been fun! However, sadly, a lot of my setup doesn't seem to work in the WebGL build. Very frustrating! (Please play our windows version ;_;) I ended up getting a whole lot of conditionals in there to at least not break the experience in WebGL, but it's definitely not what I'd intended! Either way... if anyone has some tips, do let me know hehe.
Either way, it's been yet another fun challenge, without a giraffe this time sadly, but definitely another entry that I loved building and that I love playing at this point. The current build supports easy and medium difficulty.. Now my question for y'all... Do we also release a hard version? Let us know in the comments down below, and don't forget to like and subscribe.
It's been fun jamming again, already got a couple of ratings down, looking forward to play more of your games over the next few days! <3
