Behind the Buggie

  • Buggie made for a fun challenge this LD, as it's my 2nd time working with Godot as a 3D artist.

The addition of .FBX made it much easier to test files as a Maya artist. I've never been a fan of the .GLTF implementations outside of Blender, and that's been a major setback for Godot, if you have any tips let me know.

Trying to keep a spider cute and getting the model rigged and setting up the IK logic for all 8 legs in the first day made for a good challenge. I left to the dev team for implementation with the character controller (shoutout to Crigz Vs Game Dev for a great IK tutorial on YT).

A reprieve, a touch of grass, and now reviewing!

Wow! everyone managed to squeeze out some really amazing games during this jam. We're just scratching the surface of the over 1300 games submitted this time. It's always fun to see what's the new ideas and twists that each team came up with to match the theme.

Now that we've all had a chance to sleep, what's one of the things you wish you had just a bit more time to add to your game?

For us, it was a tie between Sound design and the ability to clean up larger objects. We had an overarching goal of a Extremely clean house, for now we'll all settle with a Very clean house.

We got really close but knew some things just had to be cut. So kick back with some vacuum sounds of your own and

What makes a 1.x version of a LD Game? - Transparency

Our original 72 hour game version is easily playable HERE

But we all know there's things we didn't quite get done in time, bugs to squash and elements that needed just a little bit more polish.

For us that was UI and an End Goal.

WBemv010/emUI.jpg

Our original version was lacking some consistency... and clear goals. But that didn't stop this community from giving us the necessary feedback to address it!

So 5 updates later.... alongside many various performance and collision fixes (all listed in the change log)

We have that end goal of TOTAL CLEANLINESS!

That being said it's not the easiest goal to achieve, when we say clean we mean it! WonderBot needs to pick up EVERYTHING. Every Pizza slice, plate, mug, box and book needs cleaned up!

So for those of you who played prior, THANK YOU! and for those of you just checking the game out now we look forward to your continued feedback!

What didn't make it into your game?

Intractable Physics objects for one, I see you over there Mr. floating book.

And additional hat unlocks.

We managed to squeeze 2 hats into the game, but due to the implementation they conflicted. So if you unlock flight after you find the cat you wont see the propeller hat and vice-versa. We prioritized the cat, did we make the right choice there?

Additionally, we built out a lot more faces to animate in different play states but we only wound up using 2 in the final game.

What would you expect to see in a post-jam update? What do you want to add to your own games?

Let us know and Find the cat hat!

Thank you all!

A huge thank you to everyone who's played and given feedback on our game Plug n' Play.

Like many Game Jam games we bit off a bit more then we could finish in time, Tho that just makes it all the faster to complete!

If you have a couple minutes to spare check out Plug n' Play
