Got basic base building in, enemy suicide units and some turret AI, plus some effects.
Gonna go grab a bite to eat. Watch the carnage on my twitch while I'm out.

My game is called Low Power, it's an rts/tower defence about running out of resources against a hungry horde of tofu.

Gonna be developing all today hopefully, I have work monday so this is basically my deadline (though I'll have time monday night to polish/bugfix)
Feature complete within 12 hours? No problem.

Technically the webgl works on mobile! It's a bit clunky though. I'd recommend the PC executable, it's the best experience.

Come say hi
I'm really happy with how my game's look turned out at the end, and loads of people were asking how I did it. I made a short 15~ minute breakdown on how I set up all my rendering and effects to give the game it's look, check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH7quYUic_o
And if you haven't played the game I'd love it if you give it a shot and tell me what you think!

will probably start boring gotta lay groundwork but I'll be here all day!!!
Day 1 the basic game loop is online + some vfx and sound
Day 2 gotta make a nice ui and flesh out the game loop into something playable
tune in to the stream: https://www.twitch.tv/empty5013 and enjoy programmer asmr, mostly typing noises and occasional swear words!

Come watch me play games and give critique!
So I've finished another LD, feeling really good and mostly exhausted. This time I was really low energy throughout, I think I'm getting older probably.

I wanna do a debrief on bits of DD, I'm really happy with how it turned out but I think it's not gonna be for everyone. Maybe that's ok. I definitely pushed myself in some new directions this time, so it was exciting to have it come together even though I was worried.
Things that went well: Building the car went great, idk exactly why but it just kinda came together, I'm really happy with how the vehicle handles and how it looks. I haven't modeled a car before so it was totally new to me, but I think I did a pretty good job.
The vehicle physics feel great imo, it was time well spent. All of day 1 was spent doing vehicle behaviour, hours and hours of tweaking, 100% worth it.
Things that went badly: I think I didn't really plan the gameplay arc very well and it shows. The game is fun to drive around in, but the goal is very sparse and not tightly designed, there's also no ending which is a shame. I couldn't think of something epic so I guess driving around the desert has to do.
I'm sad I couldn't fit more humor and more easter eggs in, theres a lotta desert and a lot of empty space that hasn't really been fleshed out. I'd love to stick some more pop culture references into the hidden areas, but I just didn't have the time. Sad but reality.
Things that were slower than expected: I thought for sure the entire quest system and implementation of the quests would be done on day 1, it wasn't finished til day 2, which ate into my level design and art polish time a lot. The artstyle is forgiving of the lower effort art, but a lot of art got cut because of this (originally planned 5! buildings, instead of the 3 actually in the game, and way more collectibles)
The vehicle system was expected to take some time, but it really did eat a whole day. I implemented a full internal gearbox simulation to make the engine torque and sounds feel somewhat realistic, and it paid off, but it took probably 4-5 hours of tweaking to get it to where it is. And it could definitely be even better with more time.
Things that were faster than expected: Making the map was a breeze, it's fairly simple for sure but it really came together rapidly.
Things I'm really happy with: The driving, I enjoy it so much I've found myself literally just cruising the map. I even made a bunch of changes to the roads to make them flow better as you drive, hopefully my hard work paid off and driving feels smooth, but playtesters seemed to struggle. I guess it needs practice...
Favourite pet feature: I love the signs, I'm super happy with how they turned out, and thankfully my playtesters picked up on them immediately and navigated well without a map. I think some people will still struggle, that's just how it is, but I think they do a great job making the map approachable in an authentic way that still feels nostalgically Australian.
Thanks for reading, I hope you'll give the game a shot. It was lots of fun to make, and I've enjoyed playing it myself. Until next LD!
Come say hi https://www.twitch.tv/empty5013 just started so queue is empty :)

https://emptystudios.itch.io/anathema
I've just released v1.01 which has some tiny little fixes, but the gameplay is unchanged from submission.
It was a lot of fun making my first game in Godot! I'm very happy with my final product, I think I scoped pretty well although a few things got cut (a fourth enemy and being able to cut trees down are the two features I'm saddest about cutting)
Looking forward to making another game with Godot next time! I'm a convert!
Well I have great news, I just added a gamma slider to my game since every single person has said it's too dark!

The original submission is of course still available if you want the Classic Jam Experience.
https://www.twitch.tv/empty5013
Come say hi :)
I haven't streamed this jam yet so the queue is empty, nows your time ;)

On previous jams I tried to hit this many but as just one human its loads of work to play, rate and leave feedback on so many games. There were so many amazing games this LD, great job to everyone who successfully submitted! This is the first time I've hit 100 ratings. Sadly not 100 comments but writing useful feedback can be exhausting and sometimes I just have nothing useful to say about a game. Maybe next LD the goal will be 100 comments :)
Time for awards! (that I made up just now in no particular order)
Most Likely To Become A Full Game Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/the-king-is-watching @maximbegunov
TKIW is a great little microcosm of a strategy game (roguelite maybe?) it feels like loop hero in many ways. I'm interested to see if it survives past LD. It was very cool and balanced super well, felt incredibly finished and is just a great concept.
Most Impressive Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/f-r-e-d @juicybrucey
FRED doesn't just feature great art, sound and gameplay, nor a type of enemy design I've never seen designed incredibly well, but it's also a functional immersive sim that's incredibly fun to play. There's so much going on in this game and I love it. Amazing submission.
Most Polished Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/crime-critters-rob-the-british-museum @pen-island-games
CCRTBM is incredible, there's so much going on in this game and it's designed so well, the art is gorgeous and I loved playing it. I wish I could have played coop but even singleplayer it's very silly and very fun, awesome game.
Most Bizarre Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/introvertigo @midblue
Very strange game and a great concept, super weird but lots of fun and some amazing unhinged art. Cool game.
Best Idea Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/bit-golf @badcop
Some ideas are just really good ideas, bit golf stands on it's own, it's just a great novel idea for a game executed well.
Most Addictive Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/tiny-island @ghpxi
Admittedly I'm talking about the post-jam version so maybe this award will be our controversial drama bait, but the postjam version of tiny island kept me coming back multiple days in a row trying to get a higher score, and kept me thinking about it during my day while not even playing jam games. Great concept that I'll probably play again sometime.
Most Juicy Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/critical-core @benjamin-halko
This game is popping off in all the right ways, it's fun, tight, great song and has great juice. Awesome.
Cutest Game Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/quantumine-capture @zee-yuen
Quantum space cats are critical for the survival of the human race. The art on this one is really cute and elevates the interesting game concept even further. Love this one.
Most Unhinged Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/crazy @danial-jumagaliyev
I was crazy once
Most Stylin' Award: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/calves-of-the-braves @aune
This game is SO SICK, the art is great, game feel is great, it's so weird and out there and looks gorgeous. Unbelievably stylish. So damn cool.
