Atollery – playable

Atollery is playable and public, right around somewhere… Oh. Here.
Have fun. Instructions are in the game. Don’t forget to comment, I’ve hit a design dead end and don’t know what to put in the game now. This is pretty much finished, just needs some polish.

PXTone hates me.

For some reason, PXTone took all of the voices for a song I’m writing for my game, and changed them to a snare drum. As a result, it changes a groovy tune to a steaming pile of shi- erm, bad things. Best of all, is when I change the voice, it changes it right back to a snare drum! All of my other songs are thankfully unaltered, but still. This is just silly.

Either way, screenshot time.
Scaffolds!

Scaffolds!

Controlling your strangely proportioned protagonist, your mission is to rid your construction site of defective scaffolds so that new ones may be placed in, for safety reasons. As you can see, they collapse when people walk on them, which is a bit of a problem. Concrete slabs are permanent fixtures and don’t need to be replaced, nor do they collapse. Puzzling situations ensue!

Thanks for warning me. I guess I won’t use PXTone then :)

Eew, screen snot?

Scaffolds is finished.

Go check out all of the finished games here.

I think you’ll have fun playing Scaffolds if you like puzzles that tax the brain heavily. 😉

Found your game anyway. It’s nice, a new twist on an old friend.

LD18

I’m totally not copying Kirby.

My game doesn’t suck yet. But don’t worry. It’ll start sucking soon.
Constatine
Different souls give you different powers. For example, red souls let you explode. Blue souls let you jump higher. Yellow souls don’t do anything yet.

That red monster is amazing.

Red souls let you explode? Isn’t that painful?

Constatine Sucks: Update 2

Update: Constatine can now suck.
constatine2
So far, he has sucked a blue and a red soul, managed by his handy Souladex! The Souladex can only hold two souls at a time.
Not pictured: Green souls, which let you doublejump, and yellow souls which make you win.

A lighthearted apology to anyone named Constatine. There’s probably nobody out there, since it’s really just a typo of Constantine. 😛

Constatine Sucks: Update 3

Constatine Sucks has a new Souladex, featuring old fashioned lines and wires!
Also, 6 levels total.
constatine3
Blue soul + Green soul = Tricky jumps!

I should have 10 levels for the game, and some more souls to collect. 😀

Constatine Sucks: Update 4

Constatine Sucks is nearing its complete stages. I just need to add an ending and package it all up.
I think this is the closest I’ve ever gone to a deadline, probably from watching Notch’s livestream most of the time. XD

Also, the screenies are squished. The resolution is 640×480.

My ratings be silly.

[rant]
If you look at my ratings, every
category has a 1, a 2, 3, 4, and 5 (excluding community, audio). I don’t know if my game is just controversial or what, but it seems silly if the one person who gave me a 5 for graphics (which suck) gave me a 1 in audio (as if it had none, even though it did at the end, and in this case a – would have been just fine). I don’t know the logic behind these ratings, but it’s very silly.

A lot of my ratings seemed nonsensical too. I got lots of 1s in audio, despite putting in sound effects for almost everything. In humor I got some 3s and even a 4, without making any intentional attempt at humor.

LD19

Totally in LD19.

Totally doing this thing. Using GameMaker8, SFXR, possibly Paint.net, and possibly Sonar 8. May include wheelchairs. Short sentences.

I suggested redundancy. Also, I suggested redundancy. 😀 😀

I’m just hoping that this being the week before semester finals wont slow me down. D:

LETS DO THIS THANG

The plan.

I’ve already made a game in this theme for another contest, so I’ll try and do something more innovative, driven by the theme rather than by desired outcome. So, as a restatement:
I’m using GameMaker8 Professional, SFXR, Paint.net, and Sonar8 for coding, sounds, graphics, and music (respectively). I’ll be brainstorming ideas in bed, and I’ve got a few ideas already floating around as I type this. Here’s to a FANTASTIC AND OUTSTANDING contest!

This game currently lacks any interactivity.

About 30 minutes of progress. I’m making one of those games where you’re always running, and you can only jump and duck, because I’ve always wanted to.

I have reached a milestone.

You can jump and duck! Hurrah!

Yeah, that’s all I really have. Next up is letting you progress to more levels, and general fanciness. Currently, losing just restarts the level instead of exploding into gooey goodness.

‘Run’: Progress Report 2

Run is nearing completion. It’s feeling like a good, polished game. This screenshot does it no justice.

Run disappeared?

I went to go check up on comments for my game, to find that my entry disappeared. Wonderful! Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I had the same problem. You can re-edit your entry with the “pi” letter next to “Rate Games/View All (285!)” on the top menu.

Talk with PoV so he can reenable your entry.

LD20

Let’s do this thang.

Game Maker.

SFXR.

Paint.net.

Sonar 8.

I am prepared for battle.

On a more serious note, I’m totally doing this. I don’t remember what nth LD this is for me, but I’m really starting to feel settled into the feel of things. It’s nice feeling on top of things, even though I’m relatively new compared to some of you (My first LD was #14, but I didn’t do at least one of the ones in between, plus I did a few miniLDs). I even warmed up a bit by making a fun little laser-on-mirrors game!

I feel prepared for once.

cool another game maker user 😀

Day 1, Journal 1

I spent the better part of this morning learning about surfaces, primitives, and blendmodes. This rock-textured donut is the result:
rocky donut
It doesn’t look like much, but it will provide the framework on which the rest of the game runs. Next, I’ll work on translating levels into donuts.

Day 1, Journal 2

It’s playable! Kinda.
Screenshot
You can drop bombs onto the planet, which then destroy the terrain according to the game rules. The objective is to destroy (read: mine) all of the precious ore in the ground. There will eventually be three options (bomb, horizontal drill, shaped charge) that effect the terrain differently, along with things that cannot be destroyed (cities).

Day 2, Journal 3

More progress! You can now switch which tool you are using.
Screenshot
I’ve also set up a nifty solution-showing system, in case you get stuck. I also made the landscape have stripes to better show the “grid.” Also added are sounds, and music is coming soon.

LD25

Late Start

So, I woke up this morning like it was any other. It wasn’t until one of my friends shared a screenshot of his LD entry that I remembered there was a contest! So now I’ve got about 30 hours to cobble together a psuedo-tower-defense-esque game. I really don’t have much in the way of gameplay written yet, but instead a file parser. For example:

Becomes

This took me 2 hours to get working properly ;_;

Anyways, the game will be about defending your treasure, similar to dungeon-builder games. This one, however, isn’t realtime, and instead works on a trial-and-error basis akin to The Incredible Machine. Towers are also more logical, in that they only harm certain squares on the grid, than having a set radius/power. It’s probably a bit odd to explain, but I’m sure it will be easy enough when you play it for yourself.
