The Cousins are doing stuff!

@chaotikza and I have been making some progress since the start of this morning. We did start about 4 hours after the official start, but we've got an overly complex whiteboard going already.

The plan is to build out the subsystems required to make the game work and start putting together the systems later today to make a coherent and finished prototype. Holding thumbs to get everything done on time! :robot:

Looking like we might have a game on our hands!

It's about 15 hours in and we've got some prototype going where numbers can start changing!

Our Cylon ship is able to move between planets, mine resources, recharge it's power and produce some more population. We're hoping to start implementing some battles soon so that we can fight some enemies as well.

If everything goes well we should be working on the artsy fartsy stuff tomorrow. Kudos to @chaotikza for the great idea.

The flame of civilization

This morning has been somewhat productive. @chaotikza found a tutorial on adding some effects using vanilla Audacity to make our voices sound a lot more synthesized. I think the results were great! Go to the links below to have a quick listen.

While my cousin is working on implementing our battle mechanic I'm writing some dialog to be recorded and used within the game.

The more you have, the worse it is

This title is very true of time spent on an LD Jam. Not to say the game will be worse, but one's body will take the toll. @chaotikza and myself's ideas for the theme consisted of mostly his ideas around how too much of something can negatively affect the player, thus making it more difficult. We threw around some more ideas and stumbled upon something akin to managing a national power network. In this case the more you have the worse it will be if you have a failure in one of your nodes.

The day overall was quite fruitful as we already have quite a bit of nice UI interactions up and running as well as some pretty good art, @chaotikza will say it's just programmer art, but I think it'll suffice until we want to polish. We've also been testing this as a mobile game and will be targeting a mobile platform overall with initial testing showing some promise.

As seen above we have a little build menu with a city and substation in the background. We'll be looking at hooking up the rest tomorrow and starting to see how we'll resolve load on the network.

Progress!

This has probably been the most progress we've made on Day 1. I've spent the majority of the time figuring out Unity Multiplayer while @chaotikza had been busy fleshing out the design and implementing the card mechanics as well as getting some UI ready for use as seen below:

Kudos to the team at Unity for putting together such a nice concise tutorial on that explains how multiplayer works without me having to sit through video tutorials that's difficult to follow sometimes. If you're keen at having a look over here.
