LD23

Last second in!

So, i’ve watched two streams from different ld’s, pursuing some learning. Now, i’m on the other side of the table (not that much, i won’t stream). Im not expecting a really good result from my first ld ever, but i do want to contribute to the 1000 mark of the tenth year ld!

So, let the games begin!

PS: I’ll be using plain old java, along with paint.net and probably sfxr :)

1st day over, got something done

As it is my first LD ever, i decided to go with something small that i’m sure i can finish. It is almost finished, only need a bit of gameplay, and some polishin (and maybe, just maybe, sprites).

So, without furder delay, i present you the actual state:

The game doesn't look like that, thanks to heisenberg :)

And me, having some fun:

Having some fun haha

PS: The actual state is a bit different from the screenshot because of some quantum effects of the game. When you play it, you will understand :)

Good morning(?)

After a good night (and morning!) of sleep, i’m ready to finish my simple game :)

I’m done! When is the next ld?

I must admit I was a bit nervous on my first LD. Now I’m eager to enter in the next one, I had a really good time! Sometime in the next week I’ll write a post-mortem, but for now I’m going to rest a bit :)

Also, I’m happy that a contributed for this LD, and I’m hoping for the 1k!

Good Luck for those who want it.

LD24

I may or may not be in!

It depends on the theme. I’m afraid i will not have enough time this weekend for brainstorming…So, if the theme is something I can digest easily, I’ll give my best to finish it in time :)
Gonna use: Java, Eclipse.
Might use: bfxr, Audacity, Paint.net and MSpaint, Slick, Artemis Entity System.

OBS: First time using Slick and Artemis, might not end up well.

Finally something to show!

Well, despite the fact that I didn’t quite find the theme easy to digest, I still decided to keep participating. I must go now, because my people need me (It’s already 3:30 AM here, and I still need to take a shower.)

But not before this:

Second update and sleep.

It’s getting late, and I would like to keep coding tomorrow, so I’ll have to stop before accomplishing my objective for the day  (Finish the >game<).

In fact, most of the core features are in, but I’m still missing the death mechanism and the feature that would fit the theme (yeah, no really inspired by the theme).

Tomorrow I’ll add this stuff, and spend the time I will have left into polishing and level design.

Screenshot time:

(Don’t worry, by polishing I even mean remaking all the sprites…)

Time

How much time we have AFTER the 48th h to submit our work? I’ve been running on some building issues…

LD25

நான் உள்ளே இருக்கிறேன்

As the title trivially says, I am in (For my third LD). Not so sure I’ll be competing or just trying a new framework, so I’ll put both setups here and choose at runtime:

Competing Setup:

Java, Eclipse IDE, bfxr, sfxr, MS Paint, Paint.NET, some music maker (probably audacity), If I ever get to that, fatJar, dropbox, javadoc…I think that’s it, if I remember something else (that’s free), I’ll add it here.

New Framework Setup:

HTML5, CSS, CSS3, Javascript, Some cool free IDE, bfxr, sfxr, MS Paint, Paint.NET, some music maker (probably audacity), dropbox, docs…and, as above, anythiung free that come to my mind.
(I won’t link you to the stuff I mentioned because I’m not using something new or fancy :( )

It all comes down to the title…if it’s an easy one, I’m sure I’ll go with HTML5 and stuff. If not, I’ll need to use Java.

Good luck fellas and remember: It’s about finishing the game, not winning!

Progress Update:

progressupdate

It’s a pretty shitty idea, but I spent over 3 hours ONLY thinking about it (besides the time I spent thinking and coding, which would sum up to a total of 7 hours). I really struggled at the beggining, but I got over it. I wanted to have the game ready tonight and tomorrow just focus on “bonus” features, but some procastination and some real life events impeded me from doing that. Too bad, I guess. For now, I’m going to sleep. Good luck for y’all.

Good Morning

I should be back at noon with a complete game.

(Acording to the timer on the top of the screen :))

Music…

Dude, I’ve been struggling so hard to make a suitable music to my game. I really suck at it! Does anyone have a suggestion?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, you saved my game lol.

NO MORE FEATURES!

This is a 48h competition and we only have time for so much soo…From now on I’m not adding any features, only tweaking and polishing.

Worst problem of using Java2D?

Threads. When you least expect you got two trades playing with same data.

Almost done!

I have pretty much everything I want done. I’ll think a bit more and if i don’t get any new cool and doable ideas, I’ll submit. For now, take this: progressupdate2

It’s getting to that time again…

The number of posts per second grow exponentially.
The number of “done”‘s, “finished”‘s, “jam”‘s or “out”‘s in a single page grows even faster than the number of posts (per second).
Screenshots all over the place. And goats. Lot’s of them.

And here I’m, a mere contestant in this big and awesome contest.

And, to follow tradition, I’m done!

Overall I’d say that, if it run on your computer the same way it ran on mine, than I’m happy with what I’ve got.

Now I’ll go ahead and put a shameless plug here:

Would you kindly play and rate it?

Wastes of time:

Spent about 2h on html5 prior to starting to use java.
Spent 1h thinking on “architecture” (And almost gave up because of that, can you believe it?)
Spent 3 hours alone thinking on a good idea (7h with you consider time I was coding and thinking) and I still don’t like it completely.
Spent more than 4h trying to get a good music, and it turned out tu be a 5 note music that probably won’t run on your computer (And I don’t know why.)
About 1h on browsing some old source code to remember how java2d works, another 1h to get the path to the resources right, another
1h on thread (of java2d) problems. And a bunch of other personal stuff.

LD26

I am not in! Sadly :(

I was hoping to take the week to rewrite some stuff and compete (and by that I mean create a half-decent game. Unfortunately I have lots to do on this weekend and it will not happen. That is really sad because it has been sometime since I programmed a game – or even programmed. But that’s how it goes, you can’t always win. I wish best of luck for everyone that is in and hope y’all have fun!

LD27

I’m In, for the Jam or for the Compo!

Hello everyone,
First, I’ll just re-state that I’m in. I’ll probably make another post in the near future specifying my tools and such.

Now, I’m in the mood for a change this time. I would like to participate in the jam, instead of the compo. Since I’m a programmer, I’m looking for an artist and/or musician to form a good balanced team. If you have interest, reply to my post or send a personal message here. Here are some important stuff you may want to know:

-My time zone is GMT-3.

-I will work with plain Java. No engines, no middleware, only java and it’s base libraries.

-I will not be able to make big changes on the third day. Only 2 or 3 hours at most.
-However, on the rest of the weekend I’ll be able (and will do) work on the game pretty much the whole time.

-My first language is not English, but I guess this will be no problem.

Please, make contact at most 24h before the competition, so we can set everything up correctly. Also, please take a look at my past games to have a grasp at what I can do. Feel free to ask anything else.

Thank you and good Ludum Dare for everyone!
