So, I am making my game for the Jam, and I started 40 hours late! Just finished the menu screen, been working solid for 8 hours developing the complete engine.

Very simple but powerful.

Currently the game works, with scores and everything, but collision between the meteor and player don’t work.

This is a simple game where you have to avoid meteors.
When you download, open it up, and press A to change selection, and SPACE to confirm selection. Go to the ABOUT section In-Game for more info.
This was meant for the compo, but I ended up spending the first day planning and brainstorming loads of other game ideas as well as this one. Next time will do for compo.
For the people who cant use the ABOUT part in the menu, here is what it says:

EDIT: I have made some changes in the final minutes, enjoy them:

• Code Optimized
• The Game gets harder as you get a better score (Score is based on time played without dying)
• Changed Selection Method

PS: Some people are having trouble using the ABOUT button in the menu. I have narrowed it down to these reasons:

• You have un-installed Notepad
• You have an outdated version of Java
• You have an outdated version of Windows (PRE-WIN7)

These could apply to anyone, so make sure to try to fix it, because it could affect other things as well as my game.

Hey!

My name is Luke, and I was the one who created the jam entry ‘Simple Ships‘.

Simple Ships is a 2D game made in hard Java. You have to avoid meteors, will increasing your score. You use only one button, throughout the game: the SPACE BAR.

You use the SPACE BAR to start, then the SPACE BAR to change which way the ship goes: left or right.

Pros of the Game:

• 8bit Graphics
• Interesting Concept
• The nice Feel
• Its Simpleness
• Ties in with the theme (Only one Button)

Cons of the Game:

• VERY Resource Intensive (this is due to the fact that everything is pure Java, no libraries, and lots of unneeded code. Well, not unneeded, but ridiculously crap. but what do you expect, I started 40 hours late.)
• No Sound
• Rectangular Graphics (I wanted them smoother, but I suck at art, so…)

But, all in all, it was a very interesting and joyful experience, and look forward to doing the next one.
