LD28

First Try!

This will be my first Ludum Dare attempt, the first game I’ve made in 2 years, and the first indie game I will have made.

Exited? You bet. I can’t wait to find out the theme!

I’ll be going for a 2D style whatever the theme, having decided to try my hand at pixel art.

Good luck to everyone!

Engine: GameMaker: Studio Pro.
Graphics: Pickle
Sound: sfxr and Audacity

Final Round Thoughts

As a first timer I have found the first four rounds of themes to be really interesting; many of the suggested themes had my creative mind working overtime, even some of those that didn’t reach the final round.

I’m really glad that ‘silly’ themes like Bieber 4Evar and downvote me did not make it to the final list. Common sense prevails!

Of the final round, I’m really hopeful for You Only Get One as I have a fun little concept in mind, but I’d be very happy with Night and Day. Death is Useful could be good too. If none of those come first? That’s okay too!

Having found out about the excellent sfxr and Abundant Music tools, I’ll definitely be making use of those this weekend.

I enjoy the silly themes, if only because they require you to think outside the box.

#YOGO #NOKILL

I’m really happy with the theme choice, I have a great idea in mind for it and as a bonus I’ll be doing Mcfunkypants side quest of #NOKILL.

The biggest hurdles for me are making sure my art is up to scratch and balancing life with making the game on time!

I’ll be keeping everyone up to date via twitter over at: http://twitter.com/coblynau

#YOGO Mom!

That’s right; love her or hate her, you only get one mom. She cleans up your mess, and for what? Twenty years later you’re off with another woman! Mom’s of the world, we salute you.

ld48-4I did not set my ambitions high; this is my first game jam and I wanted to make something I knew I’d get done. I’m not going to win an award but at least I can say I did it and gain insight from others.

#YOGO Mom! is a simple game where you are set against the clock to clean up the mess left behind after a LD48 event by your indie dev husband or child. I’m about 60% complete, with graphics and menus the main obstacle to tackle between now and the end of ludum time as we know it.

… and it complies with the #NOKILL side quest. :)

It has been really great following everyone’s progress via twitter, you are all amazing, don’t stop now!

Awesome man! We cant wait to play it!

Ludum Done, Mom

YOGOMom117YOGO Mom! is done; thanks for the support that everyone has offered on Twitter and here. I’ll continue to support you all in return, after I’ve had some well earned rest!

I’ve decided to release early; minimum viable product is the trendy phrase, but the truth is that I’ve been rather ill all week and I would rather release something than throw in the towel. #YOGO and #NOKILL were a great combination to get the creative ideas flowing; it has been a great experience!
