LD27

Excited and terrified

LD27 will be my first ludum dare. I’ve spectated the competition multiple times before but due to school/work I’ve never had the time to actually participate. I’m excited and a bit terrified.

Tools:

  • libGDX / Java / Eclipse
  • Paint.NET
  • sfxr/bfxr + Audacity

The game I’m working on now is almost done, 10 months after I started. I estimated it would take about 5. So the goal is to finish this game in 24 hours!

Good luck to everyone involved!

AntiVirus has had a pretty fantastic start.

Play online here: http://www.kevlanche.com/ld27

av_ss1av_ss2

Controls:

  • Arrow keys: move commands
  • Space: “wait” command
  • Click: Switch active “dot”. You can also do this with tab but it’s a bit buggy in the html version.

The goal of the game is to restore the “program”, which is a cyan line. Do this by pushing blocks around.

As the game gets harder you control more and more dots and other danger elements will be introduced, such as spikes, antivirus-eating viruses etc. There is definitely potential to make the game challenging. Also, leaning back after you “programmed” a level and watching it solve itself is quite satisfying. Super happy with the game so far!

Stuck? Continue reading for solutions.

* SPOILER ALERT *Solutions below * SPOILER ALERT *

Level 1: up, up, right

Level 2: down, right, up, right, down, right, up

Level 3:

  • Left dot: right, right, up, down, down
  • Right dot: wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, left

Day 1 complete

So the first day of my first Ludum Dare is over. I LOVE IT!

AntiVirus (working title) is moving along nicely. You can try it here: http://kevlanche.com/ld27/

The goal tomorrow is to add more levels (I’m thinking 20 for the full game), fix some small bugs and add music. It should be possible to finish in time!

LD27 game launching today!

3

I participated in my first Ludum Dare back in august (LD27) and it was awesome. I was very pleased with the result and my game got placed insanely high (#47 / 2213 overall) so I felt I had to take the opportunity and turn it into a full game! As of today; AntiVirus has launched!

AntiVirus is best summarized as a difficult block-pushing based sokoban-ish puzzle game with a computer/hacker theme. If you like having to think when you play games then this might be the game for you!

Interested? Try out the free version here:

And if you really liked it and want to by me a cup of coffe, get the full version here:

Any feedback on the game, both positive and negative is very welcome :)

I had a hard time coming up with an idea for this theme, but I’m quite happy with the way the game is shaping up.

You are a miner trying to get as far as possible beneath the surface to uncover the treasures that rest there. It’s a platformer with some puzzle elements.

Currently only one level, but feel free to try it in your browser here: http://kevlanche.com/ld29/. Should work fine in Chrome. Firefox seems to struggle, but I’m working on it!

First day done

The first day of my second LD48 is done!  I am really happy with how the game turned out!

9 levels are donel. Try it here: http://kevlanche.com/ld29/. Google Chrome (and Safari?) only I’m afraid.

If you get stuck you can skip levels with the +/- keys.

Any feedback is much appreciated!

First Jam done!

ss2

This is my third Ludum Dare (fourth if you count a “mini-LD”), but it is my first time entering the Jam instead of compo. I quite liked the more relaxed format.

Together with some old classmates I ended up doing a puzzle game where you fight ghosts using mirrors. Really happy with the result. Definitely the prettiest game I have made, much thanks to the awesome box2dlights plugin.
