Hi guys.
Usually I test games in the dark corner of my room and don’t tell anyone about anything. I decided to be a bit more social this time and I’ll share with you my feelings (about the games of course). That will be a good way to share people’s games. I decided to talk about games that I found on my own entry page, as well as the first ones (in order, when I could play them) from the entry list. No distinction between Compo and Jam, I just click the link, play, write some notes and feedback.
Dodge Pong (Compo)
Really good arcade game. The addictive ones. Movement are a bit tricky at start but you finally get used to it. I really like the weirds effects the ball can have. Sometimes it just spin around me and I don’t know what direction to face. The precision meter is a nice feature, it remind you how much you suck at touching the ball
That’s a really fun and addictive game, simple and fun.
CERT (Jam)
That’s a Super Meat Boy like, with perma-death. Fans of Super Meat Boy will like this game. I’m Super Lame at that kind of game and get frustrated very fast so I couldn’t finish it, there certainly is a lot of challenge in that game.
Graphisms are nice pixel arts, there is a nice fake old tv screen effect.
The only weak point is the lack of audio content.
Penguins Can’t Fly (Jam)
Well, as a Linux user I couldn’t let a game with penguins escape without a test.
Penguins Can’t Fly is a fairly simple but yet entertaining game in which you can shot everything that moves. AND I LIKE THAT. Just spammed my canon, try to get these aliens out of my sky. It become more and more challenging as times goes. Speaking about time, the nice touch is that day and night mood.
I just regret not having some score board of all my runs to compare them.
Ocean Crossing (Compo)
Okay, I’ll be honnest that’s not the best game I played so far. In the game you have to cross an ocean by going right (east) and some random events, positive and negative, will happen. Ultimately, it’s just a question of luck, for the good events to balance the wrong ones. I managed to cross after three attemps just by pressing the right arrow of the keyboard continuously. So entertainment is a minima, an easter egg (that I haven’t found yet) is hidden in the game. I suppose it’s a matter of exploration but nothing sure. No music, either. The graphics are pretty nice tho.
That said, the creator just had 7 hours of work and that’s not so bad for making a game like that.
Television Screen (Jam)
This was an hard one for me. Not the game itself, but the fact that you can only move with WASD and I have a french keyboard with ZQSD. Including arrow keys would have been nice, that’s what I do for lost guys like myself.
I would have expected better graphics from a jam entry. The music become annoying soon enough but, well, isn’t it the game of almost all of them is any jam ?
I had trouble to understand what the goal was so I almost only explored.
This guy took the theme seriously, the game is actually inside an image of a screen.
See you soon for another test series !
Throw all them unicorns!
