LD22

I`m in!

Hello!

I will try to make a game for my first Ludum Dare.

I`m not good at it, but i hope i`ll learn a lot!

Good luck everybody!

Progress is going…

I`m creating a 2D platformer. I called it “Tiny planet”.

Here is a preview image:

Background music

Yay! My game now has background music! It`s my first attempt to make it.

And here is another screenshot:

My post-mortem

It was my first Ludum Dare Jam, and here is my post-mortem.

I made a game “Tiny planet”.

What went right:

  1.  I`m familiar with coding. In fact, “Tiny planet” is a sequel to “Tiny world”, which used the same engine.
  2. No time issues. I have no difficulties organising my work, and all shedules were completed. Testing also was quick, due to minimalism of my game.
  3. Graphics. All graphics were easy to make: I already had stickman, kitten and powerups are small, other things were built in editor itself. Even the fact i`m bad at drawing didn`t bother me.

What went wrong:

  1. Music. I`m bad at composing, more than that, i never used music in games before. I barely made the background music, but i couldn`t make sound effects. Gonna do warmup next time.
  2. Difficulty. At first I thought like “What a nice quick game I make!”, but then I realised it`s hard for other people. I had to add a bunch of hints to make it possible.

What I learned:

  1. Making music for games.
  2. Harder isn`t always better.
  3. Too little gravity is bad. At first i had usual 9.8 gravity, but i had to change it to 49.
  4. Basic embedding swf files in html.

Tiny planet – Christmas edition

Christmas edition for my game is done! Play it!

Things to do:

  1. Collect all candies.
  2. Sing “Jingle bells, jingle bells”.
  3. Meet the gnome.
  4. Watch a garland.
  5. (Did you know those white floating platforms are clouds?) Pierce the heaven with your drill-shaped hat!
  6. Miss the “Restart” button.
  7. Enter the Shrine Of Festivity.

In again

Hehe, I`m in! It`s my second Ludum Dare!

I`ve failed with innovation in LD #22, but this time i won`t take it easy!

Already started

I`ve already started making my game. See the lastest demo!

I`ve made a full to-do list, which contains 74 lines, so my progress is 67/74. (In case of something, I keep it edited)

End of the first day

A first day passed. What can I say about my game? I’ve tried to create a scary atmosphere… and failed. :(

I would give it:

Innovation – 4
Fun – 2
Theme – 2
Graphics – 3
Audio – 3
Humor – 3 (I haven`t made the ending yet!!!)
Mood – 3
Overall – 3
Community – 4 (When everything will be done)

But I have some fancy pixel graphics.

Lunch break

So, time passes with 1-2 things left to do, chronolapse launched and empty stomach.

I’ve made a boss that consists of 99% evil and I`m proud of him. I still don`t like how fearsome, or fearless my game is. Everyone else’s games look awesome, while mine is looking… not so awesome…

All the objects

Entry finished

So, i participated and finished my entry “In the middle of the road

Here is a mini post-mortem:

What went right

Graphics: the pixel art is a great choice for people who can`t draw well. I had no problems making pixel art, and it was funny.

Planning: all the gameplay was written on two small lists of paper beforehand. I just did what I planned.

What went wrong

Sound effects: I don`t know any other way of making sound effects I want but using sfxr/bfxr. That`s why there were a little of them.

Gameplay: thought the idea seemed original, the gameplay spoiled it. All the item interacting was just some part of a game.

I also made a timelapse, but I will post it later.

ItMOtR Timelapse!

So, i finally submitted a timelapse for my game, “In the middle of the road“! (ItMOtR for short)

I cut out parts where i did nothing, and missed some other parts.

You don’t need to use the embed code, just paste the link into the text without anything special.

No, don’t use the link button, just paste the URL without a link.

We are in!

I made my very own doodle!

I call him Virtual Bro. And he`ll help me making an entry!

Good luck with doodle taming everybody!

I thouht I should submit my progress

I`m going very slow, but I already have something to show. I`m making a point-and-click escape game, but with some nice features.

Like this. You need to draw a key you`ll use.

LD23

Finished!

I finished my MiniLD #33 entry! What kind of game is it? It`s a point-and-click escape game! You don`t see them often, do you? And it includes many awesome things! The first one is self-made graphic engine! It literally draws levels.

And the second is draw-what-you-need system. I already posted a screenshot of it. Niiice, right? Oh, the third thing: in-game hint system! You don`t need a walkthrough button anymore, just call Virtual Bro and he`ll tell you what2do. And fourth – Portal-inspired plot! It even could use a cake. Indeed, a cake is vital in games. You can starve without one.

Ok, play this game here!

I`ll be in!

It`s my fifth LD (second not-mini LD), and I`m in! (I`m having 3 competitions this month) What I`ll use:

Coding: PhYard

Graphics: GIMP

Audio: sfxr, PXTone, Audacity (maybe GP5)

Timelapse: Chronolapse (Last time I tried to use it it didn’t work, so I`m not 100% sure)

I`m not sure will I participate in compo or jam. That`ll depend on how much will I do in 2 days.

Warmup = 0

I doubt I’ll be able to do warmup now. I had very much to do, I’m stressed now and I’ll be busy until Friday. I don’t think I’ll even do warmup in Friday! (Because I have some evil plans for Friday. Mwhahahaha!) So I’ll enter LD not warmed up. And that’s when my Chronolapse isn’t working! And I want to sleep. I can’t imagine myself being OK during LD. And it starts in 4 days.

(Why would you read it anyway?)

Have a nice LD everybody! Make sure to sleep well before it and do a great warmup!

This… is… LUDUM DARE!!!!!

I managed to make a LD warmup entry! You got thrown kicked into a shaft. Escape it! Don`t think it`ll be easy, because you cannot jump! You are just a ball after all. There`ll be lots of puzzles. Swimming up the tube? It`s here! Manipulating a claw? It`s here! Blowing up mining trucks? Here, too! Looking for a cake? Also here! Go play it here!

And I`m disappointed by themes. There is no kittens!!!!!

Too nervous…

I was too upset about Ludum Dare. And when I’m upset I need to do soemthing.  Like plasticine modelling. So I made this plasticine guy:

Meanwhile I made lots of other things. I took a photo of my mouse pad:

And tested my Chronolapse (light at the end of tunnel):

Gonna turn in now, because I’ll have to wake up early.

Progressing!

It’s noon and I’m making a game. It’s a tilebased minecraft-inspired PRG/strategy hybrid. And it’s randomly generated! It’s my first randomly generated game!

I didn’t give it a name yet. I thought about naming it “Tinycraft”, but I’m afraid Notch’s game will have this name.

Anyone up for some hammering?

I’m progressing, I’m progressing! I gotta hurry, cuz I am going for compo! Yay!

So I made interaction and stuff.

I made a fog of peace, moving and… building! You can build a house, or a shaft, or pillage a dungeon (not really, you can only press “pillage” button)
