We're in!
My friend and I are in, so let's get started
I'll probably write my game in Java, maybe using the LibGDX framework, not sure yet. I'll first have to determine the game concept.

First while brainstorming, we came up with an idea to create a space-invaders kind of game, except this time you have to defend earth. When the earth is hit by a meteorite/projectile, the earth will get smaller until you lose.

Right now, we've got this worked out:

Also meteorites are in already + explosion particles, but I still have to add a randomizing factor to the spawn locations of the meteorites.
In the meanwhile, my friend @Maus has been busy with the textures of earth (like seen in the draft) and meteorite, which should be done soon as well.
Thanks for reading :)
Since the last blog post we've added all the textures into the game!
Also meteorite spawning is fixed now so it is fully random.

Right now, we want to add sound effects and music and give the earth a health bar, so we can add some difficulty to the game. And we're also going to add a menu screen, ofcourse.
Thanks for reading!
Hello everyone, this is the last update for today. Not much has changed since the last one. Right now I've implemented warning signs, so the game is a bit more fair. Beforehand when meteorites came from above or from beneath, you had a really short time of moving towards the right place. Right now, you can move earlier because you're seeing a warning sign.

Also I've added a healthbar for the earth and a little menu, which will look like this:

I also implemented a gameover screen and imported the music and soundeffects, which are all working now.
Things I'll have to do tomorrow: - difficulty factor that increases over time - score system - highscore - options (volume settings etc.) - sentry? (not sure if I'll be able to finish that in time)
Thanks for reading, all have a good night
PS I've seen some great compo submissions here, very nice!

Welcome to Planet Earth. Since humanity ruined everything in the universe, waves of meteorites are coming towards us! Defend the world by destroying the meteorites. You don't want to get our small world too small, do you?

This game has been made using: * Java (Eclipse) * GIMP * Looplabs * Launch4j
Made by: - Jelle @MrGussio (Developer) - Maurice @Maus (Graphics & Game Designer) - Tigo @tigokok (Game & Sound Designer)
Things you might want to know before playing: - Windows SmartScreen might block the executable. Click on "More Info" and then you should see a "Execute anyway"-button or so. - Also Chrome might block it. Click on "Keep" to still download it. - The sounds volume is a bit buggy. Please don't put your headphones too loud. - Everything has been done within the 72 hours mark.
Use A and D to move, W to fire.
Windows: https://gussio.ga/downloads/earthinvaders/EarthInvaders.exe (6.3MB)
Windows/Mac/Linux: https://gussio.ga/downloads/earthinvaders/EarthInvaders.jar (6.3MB)
Chrome and Windows (don't know what MacOS/Linux say of it) might block the executable. Press "Keep" to continue.

I'd still love some feedback on my game, so feel free to rate it :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/earth-invaders

Hello everyone! Our LD38 entry "Earth Invaders" is now available in the Play Store! I've rewritten the game in the LibGDX framework, so it's easier to export on different platforms. We've also planned to apply some updates to the game, so it will be more fun to play.
