LD25

There I go.

Alright, after two Ludum Dare in which I couldn’t take part, here I am finally.

I’ll use Flash (AS2) and mebbe a little help from my beloved photoshop for graphics. Plus of course friends, tea and coffee all night long.

Good luck everybody, let there be fun !

Almost done with de main code

Okay so after one day of work, I’m getting something. There are no real graphics for now, but here’s what il looks like :

screen1 screen2

Yup, you play an evil goat riding a flying broom.

I’m also realizing my game is totally unplayable in its current form, I guess I’ll have a lot of tweaking to do. Anyway for now, let’s get some sleep !

Interesting game idea. Why broomstick though? xD

Working on the graphics

The game is finally starting to look nicer !

I couldn’t really get any sleep but at least having a break got me back in the mood.

Also I already tried some stuff about the other assets *teasing*

Graphics, graphics !

screen5 screen6 screen7

Well, that’s it for the main graphics ! Now let’s go back to the code and set the scoring system. Also, the interface is left to do as well as the introduction/tutorial. I’m not done yet, but this is turning really great for now \o/

Almost there…

Look at that gorgeous main screen of mine. Isn’t it beautiful ?

Okay so now the game just lacks a tutorial and music. And my back never hurted that much, seriously.

Submitted !

You can play Goat 666 directly here and view the compo entry here ! Obviously, yeah, it features a goat \o/

plus1Goat

Mouse + arrow keys. Also, I forgot to say it anywhere but you can mute the game by pressing X. Oh, and there’s sound !

For now, I just want to sleep. See you in some days for the timelapse and the post-mortem ! That was great anyway, totally waiting for the next ludum dare 😀

Edit : here’s the timelapse !

Goat 666 – post mortem

epilepsy

It was my very first time taking part in a Ludum Dare, but I already did make some games and one game jam with friends of mine, so I wasn’t new either to technical aspects of gamemaking nor to the 48 hours time limit. In the end, I find my game quite satisfying, except for its difficulty wich is a little bit excessive.

 Play Goat 666

So here comes the post mortem :

wwr

-As I said, no big surprise during the making of the game. I didn’t get unexplained errors while coding, and didn’t spend too much time on deciding how the graphics would be done (except on the cover art).

-Good time management. Even if I became less and less efficient as I got tired, I endend up having some hours left to polish everything, which I wasn’t sure of at the beginning. It may only be chance since I didn’t really plan anything :B A good thing is that I decided quite precisely what I wanted to do right from the beginning, so I didn’t spare time thinking of what I should do after that : I knew where I was going and how.

-The experience was really enjoyable, even if I felt totally destroyed after that 😀

-Friends. Lov’em.

www

-Unconvincing game mechanics. I don’t feel like my game actually is really fun in its gameplay, even if the music and the graphics make it more nervous.

-Unbalanced game : although I managed, in the end, to tweak a little the probabilities and enlarge the hitboxes of the people you have to click in the game, the difficulty is still quite high. I usually make this mistake of forgetting that people who will play my games for the first time won’t be used to it as I am since I’m permanently testing it, and thus that I should make it easier even if I can beat it quite easilly. One day I will remember it.

-I don’t code fast enough..

-Couldn’t really get any sleep D: I tried though, but too much tea, coffee and not being at home (thus only having a sofa to sleep) broke  the mood. So I ended up being really really tired and slow at working.

-I used musics from other artists, which forbade me to submit my game in the compo, so I moved it to the jam. I didn’t read the rules with enough attention and though it would be OK if I used free-of-use tracks. This is no big deal, but it’s kinda annoying since I made everything else by myself within the 48 hours, so… Well, I’ll be more careful next time.

-I wasted time writing posts because I wasn’t always sure of my english. Nothing grave, but still, it’s kinda stupid to spend 5-10 minutes on a five lines post 3:

wn

-Spare more time on looking for game concepts, and learn how to do it more efficiently. It’d be nice to have a really fun game for once.

-Learn how to make music, for heck’s sake D:

-Maybe start working with 3D in order to get moar skills, even if it’s quite hasardous for now.

-Keep washing the dishes when I get too tired/upset to do anything right. In the two game jams I made, there was that moment when I just finished something and I though “Okay I really need a break right now, but I don’t feel like sleeping, and I’ll get even more upset if I just stay there doing nothing”. And seriously, washing dishes is the best thing to do at that moment 😀 It’s totally mechanical, so you don’t have to concentrate while doing it, and it’s more relaxing than doing nothing. Well, maybe it’s just me…

-Do games ! More games !

LD26

In !

I’m waaaay late on my school works and my sleep schedule is already screwed up, but hey

#YOLO

Tools of choice :

-Flash (graphics + AS2 programming)

-Photoshop if needed

-Audacity, maybe sfxr (i do not have any skill for music composition, I’ll probably just make basic sound design & that’s all)

-Tea all day long, coffee all night long !

-Friends. Vmvc <3

Anyway, good luck y’all, may the potato be with you !

Potato shirt yo.

Okay I finally found something.

willy tehee

I’m not a big fan of those vector graphics, nor am I used to it, but let’s try to fit the theme a little bit…

Also, willy. Always start with the most important, right ?

Minigamz

Wowowo, done with the core of the game !
It consists in a lil’ bunch of stupid mini games. I must say, I’m rather happy with it !
moar

I still have some work to do between the menu/introduction, a (very basic) scoring system, some sounds, and polishing because I’m worth it.

And yeah, that’s a potato on the guy’s shirt.

Done here !

My game, The Minimalism Quest, is online !

It’s a short gamie thing about a dude getting rid of the superfluous.

Despite a tough start, I have to say that I am rather happy with this one (even if it is really short) !

Anyway, time to look at the other’s work now.

And potato, yo.

The Minimalism Quest – Post mortem

Well, better late than never, huh ?

So here’s my game, The Minimalism Quest.

What went right :

• I did manage my time well enough. In the end, I had half a day just for polishing (and extra sleep). That was nice.
• The game itself is fun and clean ! At least that’s what I’ve been said. Plus it is fast, so people who tried it went to the end.
• Anyway, I am satisfied with it and that’s one good point. And I had a good time making it!
• EXPLOSIONS AND SCREENSHAKE §!!!§§!§§

What went wrong :

• The idea itself came late.
• Players had a hard time figuring what to do in some of the scenes – mainly the computer one. Needs moar feedbacks  !
• Also, the time challenge and the “figure what you have to do” challenge didn’t go well together. I thought about killing the timer thing, but this is what gives the game some replayability, so I finally kept it. Maybe I should have activated the timer only at the second playthrough, rather than right at the first one.
• Nobody understands the idea behind the last scene… I wanted the character to get rid of everything he doesn’t consider strictly “necessary”, until he decides his limbs aren’t and mutilates himself. Maybe I should have made it more explicit – he could have litteraly said it or something.
• I really need to get more skills with sound design. REALLY.

What to do next :

• Learn about music and sound design. GODDAMNIT.
• Stick on concepts with more focus on graphics than programming skills – as it is both what I enjoy the most and what I’m the best at.
• I may also want to give the jam a try with some friends of mine – and go further than ever with the pOwEr Of LoOoOoVe ~・✧♥*

PS : my timelapse should soon be online. Link here.

S.W.A.G., a student game

Hi everyone.

I’m working with a bunch of friends (including LD fellahs Pereubu & Toki) on this game called S.W.A.G.
It’s a retro FPS about the 90’s, street crediblity and rap music.

Here’s our prototype, have some screenshots as well (and a trailer at the bottom of this post) :

The game is developed for the french student contest Hits Playtime. It ends tonight, and the projects that gathered the most facebook likes on their page will be selected for the finale.
The point is, we need some right now. Yup, I’m definitely posting it here because we are desperate for likes. So if you feel like it, any like or share would be appreciated ! :3

TL;DR : a cool game, for a french contest, in need of facebook likes to be selected for the finale tomorrow.

Thx & lov’y’all !

LD27

Woops, in !

YISS

Third LD. Let’s do this.

I’ll use Flash as always (except if I play it yolo and go Unity even though I’m not confident in my skills with it. At all.), plus Photoshop if needed. Music ? Sound ? Fuck.
Sorry I’m being crude.
And as always, teacoffeefriendsandloudmusic.

Now for something totally different (well not totally), I just uploaded a more polished version of my LD26 game, The Minimalism Quest, on Newgrounds and Kongregate. Fyi.

Good luck y’all, see you in 11 hours !

Woops I parralax’d everywhere

parallaxxxx

Okay so I’m doing a game that has approximately nothing to do with the theme. Also, Tyu and I lost something like 30 minutes watching some scenes from The Incredibles because this movie’s worth it.

What am I even doing

whatamievendoing

So I’m doing some stuff in the far west that’s waaaay to ambitious for a jam. And consequently, I decided to waste some more time watching the whole Incredibles movie (with Tyu again). Because it’s worth it.

Ha, I love how “temporary” the art looks. An amusing aesthetic.

No compo for me, going jam.

48hgif

Well, as expected, I am too short on time. Rather than finishing the game roughly and without sound, I decided I’d take one more day and submit it as a jam entry.
Plus it’ll allow me to use musics I didn’t do by myself. Considering my skills, that’s a very good point. Heh.

So anyway, teasing.

Finally submitted !

PFIEW
So I just submitted the thing. It’s playable online (flash).

So about the theme : each sequence of the game lasts 10 seconds (or asks you to be quicker). That’s all.

About the game itself : it tells the story of Mrs. Sheriff that runs after a train and then everything goes KBOOM.

Say that I thought I’d be able to make it in just two days. Silly me.

It’s already in the description but I’ll write it here as well : basically, I took part in the Art Game WeekEnd this weekend (we made this : https://vine.co/v/hjg2Te7a1we), but I really wanted to take part in this jam too because SHARKS. When I came back home , I saw the deadline was smoother than expected and that I still had 3 hours to make something. So here you go.

GOD I AM SO TIRED. FAK.
