My First Ludum Dare in a Long Time - Chrono Caverns

I haven't had a chance to take part in a Ludum Dare in a long time, so I figured it was now or never and created a game for Ludum Dare 42 called Chrono Caverns.

Chrono Caverns in a puzzle game with rogue-like style controls. Touching every tile in the map unlocks a stairwell to the next floor. Once you find the pendant, you're given the ability to undo each move you've taken.

It'd be great to hear what you folks think of my game, and I'd be happen to check out yours. It's my first puzzle game, and I've learned that making difficult puzzle levels is actually more challenging than it looks.

Displacement is finished!

After a busy weekend, I managed to get Displacement in right under the wire. Displacement is a Sokoban-style puzzle game about pushing and pulling blocks, activating switches, and clearing paths to exists. The unique gimmick of Displacement is that when you push or pull, all blocks in the level vertically and horizontally aligned with the player move. This can lead to some tricky situations where you really have to think ahead. Later on an action limit is added to make things even trickier. If you make to many moves/actions, all your progress is lost and you're forced to reset the level.

This gif shows off one of the levels in the middle of the game. Don't watch the whole thing if you want to figure it out yourself! I'd love if you'd give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Displacement - Let me know what you think and I'll return the favor

Displacement is a Sokoban style puzzle game where you push and pull blocks to activate switches and clear paths to the exit. The twist being that when you pull or push, all blocks horizontally and vertically aligned with the player move as well. It means you have to think a few steps ahead at all times.

I'd really love to know what you folks think and I'll try my best to return the favor and provide feedback to those who play my game. Thanks!

Check out my game Displacement if you're a puzzle game fan

I made a game called Displacement that is a Sokoban-style block pushing and pulling game where you activated switches and clear paths to the exit. The novel thing about my game is that when you push or pull, every block vertically an horizontally aligned with the player moves as well. This means you really have to think a few moves ahead when trying to solve a puzzle. At the bottom of this post is an example of a level about 50% of the way through the game.

If that sounds interesting to you, let me know what you think of Displacement: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/displacement

I want to play as many games as I can, so send me yours!

Over the next few weeks I'm planning to play a lot of jam games, so I created a form to help manage my list. I'm going to try my best to play each for an extended period of time and provide detailed and actionable feedback since I know how valuable that can be. Please fill out the form below if you want me to check out your game.

I might be planning to expand upon this idea, so any feedback of the Ludum Dare version would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Give Displacement a try if you like puzzle games

Hey folks,

Ludum Dare 46 is coming to an end and I'd love to get some more feedback on my game Displacement before it's all over for another few months. Displacement is a sokoban-style puzzle game about pushing and pulling blocks to activate switches and clear a path to the exit. The difference being that when you push or pull you move all blocks vertically and horizontally aligned with the player, not just those that are adjacent. This means you always have to be thinking a few steps ahead.

If you like puzzle games I'd love to hear what you think. I'm thinking of expanding on this idea, or creating another similar puzzle game so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. If you leave a comment on my game, I'll try my best to do the same on yours.

Looking for a last minute game to rate? Try Displacement.

Hey folks,

There's less than an hour left for rating, so if you're looking for something to check out I'd really like to hear what you think about my game Displacement. It's a block pushing and pulling puzzle game. When you push and pull all blocks aligned with the player will move, so you really have to think ahead in spots. If you rate+comment early enough, I'll try to give your game a shot before this is all over with.

Good Luck with your ratings!

Untitled mining game

Hey everyone!

I know... I know... a mining game.

I got a bit of a late start this time around, but I've got something to show at least. Just the basics now, but I think the idea could be pretty fun.

Basically you're a miner that can mine left, right, and down. The goal is to get as deep as possible, before you run out of energy/oxygen (Not implemented yet). You'll be able to collect oxygen as you descend to fill your supply back up, but you'll have to move fast and look out for obstacles that will slow you down or kill you.

I'm keeping the art style simple so no-one has to deal with my programmer art. Just simple sprites, and easily swappable color palettes.

I'm using PICO-8 for the first time. It's fun, but my inexperience with lua has caused me to hit a few snag but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Good luck everyone!

Manic Miner

Day 1 is almost over, and I hope everyone's making good progress so far. I've seen a lot of cool stuff already, I can't wait to see what's posted tomorrow.

I've possibly figured out a name for my game, and there's also a gameplay loop. The goal is to dig down as far as you can, while collecting air bubbles along the way so you don't run out of air. When you run out of air, you lose and can reset to try again. I also added the ability to change the color palette, along with some more UI for things like current depth and amount of air remaining. Also just so you know, the plain blocks take one hit to destroy while the rock looking ones take two.

Not sure what else I want to add. Maybe some more sound, or some different tile types. I could add some progression of some sort, but I kinda feel like I just want to keep this as simple as possible.

I want to play and rate as many games as I can, so send me yours!

I'm going to be trying to play as many games as I can over the next week or two, so I figured I'd create a form to help me manage everything I want to play. I'm planning to play each for a decent amount of time and provide detailed and honest feedback since I know how valuable that can be.

Manic Miner - Can you get the highest score?

Manic Miner is a fast-paced arcade digging game where you try to descend as far as possible without running out of air. The rounds are quite fast and hectic so it'll be a small time investment if you want to try it out and let me know what you think.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/manic-miner

Please post your high score with your comment/feedback on the game. The highest posted so far is 623 which is pretty unbelievable to me as it gets pretty tough. Maybe you can beat it.

Apologies in advanced if it causes a repetitive stress injury.
