LD35 April 15–18, 2016

Great showing of Splody Ludum Dare / GitHub GDC Party!

Last night I attended the Ludum Dare / GitHub GDC party in San Francisco at the fantastic offices of GitHub.  I have no idea where their employees work (perhaps another floor?) but their gathering space was fantastic, and they even had a nice big TV with a dangling HDMI cable set up which I was able to snag for an hour or two of showing off my game, Splody.  I turned the TV over to Shnipers for the latter half of the night, as that was also a fantastic local multiplayer game, and had a chance to play a bunch of other indie games around the room as well.

Splody

Splody is basically Bomberman taken to the extreme, optimized for larger numbers of local players (though also has online multiplayer).  The showing of Splody went quite well, often had 6 or more people playing at once, everyone seemed to be having fun, and quite a few were really excited about the game.  It was great to have so much positive feedback!  Everyone unanimously enjoyed my simultaneous multiplayer character customization/control test screen.

Simultaneous multiplayer character customization and control test screen

Now, I just need to channel as much attention as possible into getting Greenlit on Steam, so, if you have a Steam account, please go vote on my Steam Greenlight Campaign, every vote helps!

I did learn a few things that hadn’t came up with my previous demos – as this demo was to a bunch of random people at varying frequencies, and most of my previous demos have been to larger captive audiences.  I need a good way to show the game to just a single demoer – playing a 1v1 match against me, a tournament-winning Bomberman player, either doesn’t go well for them, or feels like I’m just committing suicide.  I think I’ll throw in an option to pad out a match to a fixed number with AIs, so if there’s just one person demoing, AIs can fill in so there is at least 4-6 players on screen for a better feeling of what a party game can be, though obviously playing against AIs isn’t as fun as stomping your friends.  The other thing was with one particular game mode, Mount Control, which currently has a bit of randomness in it which can lead to rather long matches, and I think I can do a little tuning so that the expected match time is a lot more constrained which would lead to much better conference-floor demo experiences.

Oh, and the other thing I learned, or, rather, already knew, but keep forgetting, is that I really shouldn’t play against a set of people and win 3 to 0 to 0 to 0 to 0 to 0… but some people playing the demo get really competitive and I have to give it my all to give them a fair fight, and the I forget to tone it down a notch for the next group.  Best solution is probably to continue talking about the game constantly, as me paying half attention is probably the right skill level for most people ;).

In conclusion, please vote on my Steam Greenlight Campaign, and also follow me on Facebook if you want updates on the development of Splody (and my other projects).

I’m in for #35

Wow, the next LD is creeping up – only 1 month away! Last time I made an OK-ish game using Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/73830226/) called A Piece of Me. This time I plan to go 3D!

BTW, I’m in the process of developing NinJGL, an object-oriented extension of LWJGL 3 that makes it easier to develop cross-platform games. It’s still in development; however, if I can get it done within the next month (ie. no huge school projects) then I’ll be using it for this jam.

Entering Ludum Dare 35

Hello, Wolf here. This is going to be my second Ludum Dare. Last year in Ludum Dare 34 I made a game called “Cook!!! I’m Hungry!!!” – http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-34/?action=preview&uid=63026

While I was proud of my game, I think this time I can bring something better to the table now that I have three months more experience. I will be broadcasting my Ludum Dare challenge this time, and I am going to try for the Jam this time around. It gives me more pressure to finish the project in a shorter amount of time. Hopefully I can really accomplish something this time around. Really looking forward to Ludum Dare 35, I will see you on twitch – https://www.twitch.tv/wolfofodin

Looking for an artist

Hello my fellow developers.
We at Givit Game Studios is looking for an artist. We are currently working on a game and we need new flavour of graphics in our game.
If you are interested please email us on info@givitgames.co.za

I’m in for #35

Ludumdare 35? Holy jesue, hell yeah i’m in….

Hello

I’m in.

LD35 – I’m In

Looking forward to LD35… this will be my second LD.  My first/last LD resulted in Retro Rebound Challenge.

For LD35, I’m planning on using:

  • Unity
  • Photoshop
  • Paint.net
  • Audacity
  • bfxr
  • Inkscape

I’m in

This Ludum Dare I have decided to make sure I have adequate time to produce a game, which  represents myself as a creator, rather than only part of what I can do.

In order to do this, I have decided to use only tools which I am absolutely comfortable with (this time it is Unity 5, visual studio, blender and Gimp) and I will spend more time preparing and allocating time, e.g 3 hours on art day 1, 2 hours programming, 1 hour level design. and then leave the second day to add stuff or change certain mechanics leaving me plenty of time to finish my game at a good standard.

A key part I have found is also preparation; I have noticed I have not managed to keep time very well previously this means that I have spent little time planning. So what I aim to do this time round is to spend one or two hours drawing up ideas and writing a brief game design document, just so that I know where I am going with this game and how I can minimise wasted time and leave me long enough to fix bugs and polish up art before it is released.

To everyone joining in, I wish you good luck and I look forward to playing your entries.

(As you can probably tell, I didn’t do very well in English at school)

I am in

I am in for the 6th time!

Language and Library: Java Swing, or LWJGL, for a change maybe

Graphics: Paint.NET,  Piskel, maybe Inkscape and Synfig

Music: LMMS, maybe incompetech.com, Abundant Music. Depends on how much time I have left

SFX: Might use SFXR if I have time or just Audacity.

Cannot wait!

A new idea

I would really like it if Ludum Dare had a way of messaging people.  I recently read colinator27 actually modded my most recent game, and I really want to see what he came up with!  Please implement a messaging feature in this website or a future one.

I think actually the better system would be to have links to places where you can contact people (twitter, email, etc). There are already lots of good ways to communicate with people, so people might be hesitant to adopt a new one.

Inserting Image.

Hey, under ‘Help’ it directs me to use the “Add Media” button which, for the life of me, I can’t find.  Also under keyboard shortcuts, it says “Ctrl + Alt + M” should add an image, which also doesn’t work for me.

Do I have to enable something or am I missing something?

Thanks,

It should work now. There’s a security thing in place, users that haven’t been promoted to authors can’t post images. We promote people to authors once we’ve proven they’re human (usually by reading what they post, and clicking a button).

I’m in again!

I’m in for the Ludum Dare 35, my second Ludum Dare this is going to be fun. Hopefully I’m going to do better this time (of course I am XP).

Engine: Unity3D

Graphics: Photoshop & Paint.net

Models: Blender

Sound: Audacity

Planning: Xmind & Excel

Computer: A very bad school laptop (Yay!)

Vulkan API

So the new Vulkan API was finally published last month, and I’ll be experimenting with it for LD35 – and as my language of choice is C#, I’ve been working on .NET bindings for the API. It’s very much a work in progress, but if you’re also interested in trying Vulkan then take a look: SharpVk

Good luck. I ran in to some issues trying to get the drivers working on day 1 (AMD drivers were useless, and Intel Drivers were experimental branch Linux only). I’d expect they’re somewhat improved today (one month later).

I’m in

Last Ludum Dare I had to call it quits on Saturday for unavoidable reasons, but this time everything is in the clear.  I’ll be using the usual lineup of tools:

Game Engine: Unity
Image Editing: Adobe Creative Cloud
Animation: Spine & Unity
SFX: BFXR, Various objects around the house
Audio Editing: Audacity
Brainstorming: Notepad, XMind, Beer

Fog of War Script with Example

For anyone who wants to create a RTS game with some fog of war, I made a script that handles calculating and drawing fog of war.

View post on imgur.com

It tracks seen area, unseen area, unexplored area, and height. The script does not have line of sight implemented but should work identically in most cases.

The script is not the most efficient and has some strange issues with pixels being automatically compressed but the script should give an example.

You can download the source here:

You’re free to use or modify the script and use it however you want.

I’m planning on participating in the upcoming MiniLD#66 so this code was very interesting to look at, thank you! Good job! :)

We are in

Both me and my brother Nathan are in again. We had so much fun working on our last game Empyreal Roving we are going to do it again.

Me and Nathan have teamed up on a couple projects before:

Empyreal Roving:

FirstScreenShot1-300x175

Battle for Ethonia:

Each time learning more and getting better at making a fun game.

Our tools will be:

  • Unity
  • Visual Studio
  • Inkscape
  • Audacity

Empyreal Roving Post Mortem:

I am horrible at remembering to do post mortems so here it is:

We had a lot of fun making and playing Empyreal Roving. Lots of other people had fun playing it as well, only problem was it was a bit too difficult for most people. Maybe we can tone down our next game and enable a “Insane Mode” for anyone who find it too easy.

Another thing that I feel like we could have left out is all the text up front explaining how the ship was broken, why you were there, etc. It was a bit much, “just get to the game play”, is what we will try to work on more next time. If we do have story it should be introduced as you play, instead of it all up front.

All in all we both feel like we did great, and plan on improving our skills even more next time.

Good luck to everyone.

I’m in

I’m in for LD35. This will be my first time and therefore I am going for the jam. I am planning to make everything by myself (or with few friends) from scratch. I hope I can use enough time to make my game enjoyable.

Engine: Unity 3D
Language: C#
Image Editing: Paint.net
Modelling: Blender
Audio Editing: Audacity
Planning: notepad and a whiteboard

I’m in!

This will be my third LD, with my last one resulting in this thing. Though I am somewhat happy with my previous entry’s style, it isn’t a very fun game. At all. It’s actually pretty damn boring. That’s why I’m going to put far more emphasis on creating something that is entertaining this time around.

As for tools, I’m probably going to be shifting from C# and XNA/MonoGame to using C# and SFML.Net, along with good old Paint.NET. I haven’t done too much with SFML.Net thus far, but it seems like a nice option for anyone looking to move away from XNA for whatever reason, i.e. you don’t think enough of your tools end in ‘.Net’. (If you know of any music-making software that meets this criteria, please inform me.)

Anyways, good luck to anyone else who is joining! Including you. Yes, you. You aren’t getting away this time.

I’m in!

This is going to be my second Ludum Dare

I’ll be using Unity3D or Love2D, Blender, Paint.net, GIMP, Atom, Git, and Bfxr.

Previous entry: LD34

I will (as usual) be live-tweeting development here; feel free to follow me for the occasional gif or screenshot of whatever I’m working on!

I guess I have to make another one of these “I’m in” things?

Hi. I’m squigglez. You may know me from my rants about “Jim” and my other games.

Last time I had to borrow some assets to make the deadline, but this time I’m making my own and going for the compo. See you then!

More updates soon

I’m in (sort of…) / Composer looking for work

Hi everyone! My last Ludum Dare is already LD29, although I made a half game for the last jam. Since that game was focused more on music than actual gameplay, I decided to go for another musical game in LD35. If I’m in, I’ll use the following:

Code: Java with LWJGL and self-written wrapper Glome, possibly with other wrappers, depending on the theme.
Graphics: If I can manage to implement an SVG drawing function, then Inkscape, otherwise plain old shapes.
Sound: FL Studio 12

But… I’m also willing to help other people by composing music and perhaps sound effects for their games. I’m mostly specialized in trance and techno music, but I also like to make classical, trailer-ish music and ambient music. My work can be found at purplelum.com . If you need a musician and enjoy my music, then send me a message!

Hey guys!

I have started a new business on Fiverr, and my first customer gave me 5 stars!  My Fiverr offers 2 services at the moment, aka I will make 2 things for my customers: a logo or a video game.  That’s right, I have taken my love of Ludum Dare and am trying to turn it into some sort of business!  Feel free to check it out, anytime!

p.s: I hope this does not seem like some sort of uninteresting spam, because it isn’t.  I genuinely hope everyone who sees this can realize I simply love making games, and without money one cannot make said games.

p.p.s: I’m in.

Awesome, I’ll try to remember this when I need a logo for a game. Glad to hear someone taking thier love for games and turn it into something they can maintain. Keep it up

I’m in.

Three weeks to go. Looking forward to my second LD. LD34 was a blast, and I learnt a ton from the process. Hopefully I can use what I learnt during LD35 to full effect and produce an even better game.

Good luck to everyone else entering.

P.s. To the crazy cat guy, A+ for effort!, I for one wouldn’t moan if your themes was chosen.

I’m In!

This will now be my third ludum dare! I am pretty exited an I hope to actually finish it and upload it :/

Well I hope I win and you all LOSE!! >:D Just kidding.

I published my Ludum Dare game on itch.io

13 minutes of light

I published my LD game, 13 minutes of light, on itch.io. I pretty much made a post-compo version with music which has quite a big impact on the gameplay experience. And I removed some of the more glaring grammatical and spelling errors as well.

Check it out here.

I’m in!

Looking forward to MiniLD #66. This will be my first Ludum Dare.

My plan is to try many different frameworks/libraries in future LDs, so I get experience with many different kinds of tools.

For this MiniLD I will probably be making a 2D game in Unity.

I really like the theme of this MiniLD, looking forward to it.

Have Fun!

My second LD, I’m so excited!

Last time I didn’t managed to submit, the game was simply to bugy because I didn’t used the time very effective.

But this time I’m prepared

I’m in for the jam!!! (I think…)

This will be my first Ludum Dare if I can get my weekend all clear!

I’ll be using:

-Unity Personal Edition

-GIMP or Pixen for art

-Famitracker and/or GarageBand for sound effects

-Not sure what I’ll use for planning, probably just sketch everything out in Sketchbook Pro

Should be a good time as long as I don’t have anything I have to do that weekend! I’ll definitely be checking out others’ submissions even if I end up not being able to make my own.

I’m in for the first time!

I’ve been wanting to get into a game jam, but I always seem to miss the sign up deadline. I actually made it this time, so I’m in!

I’m a 3D modeler with no experience with programming, so I’m going to get together with a team. Hopefully, they’ll want to do a 3D game! Too many people are interested in making 2D games over 3D.

Modeling programs: 3DS Max and ZBrush.

I’m in!

This is me and my friends first time doing ludumdare. We will be going for the JAM.

We will be using:

  • Game engine: Unity3D or HTML5 canvas
  • Image editor: Paint.net
  • Making animated sprites: Maybe piskelapp.com
  • 3D Modeling: Blender
  • Code editor(HTML5): Brackets
  • Code editor(Unity3D): Visual Studio
  • Audio Editing: Audacity and FLStudio
  • Timelapse and streaming: OBS

I will try to stream it on: PelleP01. But i will definitely make a timelapse.

IN!

Second Ludum Dare. Kind of excited.

I’m in again!

This will be my third Ludum Dare, and I’m pumped! Really hope GameMaker doesn’t fail on me midway through the compo like last time though.. Good luck to anyone else competing!

Im in…. To Win!

I well be competing in the compo and the miniLd 66!

Our first MiniLD!

My friend and I are creating our first game for MiniLD #66!

What tools will we be using?:
Game Engine:

Unity 5.3.2 (C#)

Code editor:

Visual Studio Community Edition 2015

Sprite/Image creation:

Gimp, and Paint.NET

Sound fx/Music:

Audacity, and an Acoustic guitar!

Tags: #MiniLD66, first compo, first game, Firsttime

I’m In!

Hello!

I will be competing in my first ever Ludum Dare and the upcoming MiniLD!

I’ve know about Ludum Dare for some time now, but this will be my first time competing. Which has me very excited!

I look forward to the competition and to playing some awesome games at the end of it.

I’ll be working alone and can hardly wait to see the theme.

Best of luck to you all.

Cheers!

I’m In

This will be my sixth Ludum Dare, but my first with new computers and GameMaker: Studio Pro w/Mac export.

Software I will be using:

  • Game Engine: GameMaker Studio
  • Image Editor: I usually use GameMakers in-house editor
  • Audio: LMMS

I’m in for my 4th!

This time around I’ll be using absolutely no graphics. My game will be completely text-based and written in Java using IntelliJ IDEA. If I can complete this one, it’ll be my first game that’s not made with Scratch!

Something I will try to do is write an IRC web client (javascript…ew) or use someone else’s (better idea!) and publish my game as an IRC bot. By providing a link to the custom web client, the ability to play the game will be universal (except maybe cell phones but…really? Don’t try to play web games on a phone)

Good luck to all!

Jext Game Engine/Framework (Made by Me) (Text Based Games)

The other week I decided to make a simple to use Javascript Game Engine for creating Text Based Games rather easily
The outcome was Jext if you try it out let me know what you think of it
You can find it here

Enjoy 😀

Looks cool! Thanks for sharing it here.

Soundcard Script – a useful trick

So I am not setting myself up as some kind of expert on Sound or Scripting but one thing I have seen alot in games across multiple Ludum Dare is a lack of sound effects, my own games included. Its easy to overlook in a 48-72 hr time frame especially for the many of us who aren’t musically minded. Its also easy to write off as not being important or as important as other areas of the Games development. In truth the difference sound effects and music can make in a game is huge, the instant feedback you get from hearing a button beep or an explosion go boom can be a key part of immersing in a game and can really help notch up an extra star in the scoring. So I have been there, telling myself that I will add the sound later once I have nailed the key mechanics down, or got the art done or one of the many tasks we set ourselves only at the 47th hr to not have the time to go through and add in the code and sound effects, especially when a project has spiralled out to 20+ scripts with as many different things that need it.

This time I plan to handle things very differently and the code I will be using will get created at the beginning and look like this.

soundcard

So rather than having multiple audio sources attached all over the place I am creating 1 & putting all the music and sound effects in one place. A bonus to this is I don’t need to work out every sound effect at the beginning of the project. All I need is a place holder beep and each time I need a new sound effect I can add new entry into the sound effects array. Using code as I go an anything that sets of a sound i just add in

Soundcard.Soundselection=?;
Soundcard.Playsound();

or

Soundcard.Songselection=?;
Soundcard.Playsong();

and when I reach that 47th Hour all that’s needed is that I drop the sound effect/music I am using for each one into the array in the editor (Unity user :)).No extra coding, no worrying about conflicting sounds, no adding multiple audio sources.

So I thought in the build up the LD35 I would share one of my solutions to a problem that I have faced & i thnk alot of other LDers have to.

Feel free to tell me my code is dumb and awful and wrong in the comments :)

2 hour Progress

Hey guys its me Viper I’m competing in the miniLD so far and I’ve done 2 hours of work so for.

I have actually done 300 lines of code is that good progress for 2 hours I thinks so what do you think?

LOC is a useless measure of productivity, more experienced programmers will usually write less code.

“300 Lines?”: Depends on what kind of code it is, how efficient it is, etc. Just keep on making progress, mate! :)

MiniLD 3 hours In

Hey guys me again Viper. last time I posted I was at 300 lines in 2 hours now its been in hour since then and I’m on line 487. Which is expected but I had to spent 30 min. eating so ya.

MiniLD Day 1 progress

Heya folks, I am here to report my progress for Day 1. I am in Europe so the day is getting late for me, gonna watch a movie with my S/O before going to bed, and onward to day 2. I am getting sick too (a cold) which will not help progress. :(

I am happy about the progress I made today. Here is a small gif (i hope gifs display properly) of what I have accomplished so far.

GIF

This time around I am trying a new approach for planning, since I have a little bit more time than the usual 48 hours. I have divided the bigger ToDo’s like this. Tomorrow’s focus will be to try and do most of the MUST’s still remaining:

MUST haves
Unit movement (Basic pathfinding)
Selection of single and multiple units
Indicator of which units are selected
Map/World
Unit orders AI
Units: design and sprites
Units+Buildings: Health and damage/attack
Indicator on giving units an action
Selection and Action UI
See healthbars for units (selected + on ALT hold?)

SHOULD haves
Fog of war
Objectives
Sound cues for actions, attacks etc.
Some kind of story/motivation for the setting
Smart pathfinding
Crude unit animation (move and attack)
Information/Hint/Tutorial popups (to guide the player)
Add and remove from selection
Selection of buildings

WANT TO haves
Mini-map
Height differences for the fog of war
Background music
Proper unit animation
Inventory and treasures for hero/champion unit (a la WC3)
Attack types and defense types?

For anyone wondering, I am using Unity as game engine, as well as the Compo rules (voluntarily). I am focusing on making a campaign-style RTS experience, which I will probably only have time to make the first “mission”.

Good luck to everyone participating! :)

The most useful function

I find that this is my most used, most useful function: the simple box collision.

function isCol(thex,they, othx, othy, thel, theh, othl, othh){
return !(they+theh <= othy || they >= othy+othh || thex+thel <= othx || thex >= othx+othl);
}

I like this, It took me a bit to realize you were testing to make sure it was NOT colliding and then flipping the response. Normally I would do it backwards, Test each point to see if it was inside the box, so it was twice as long.

I’m In for MiniLD 66

I’ll be making an interplanetary war strategy game involving orbital mechanics.

I’m planning on using Phaser on the client side, using WebSockets to talk to a nodejs server. I’ve worked a little bit with WebSockets before for web frontend stuff, but this will be the first time I’ve tried doing a networked multiplayer game.

If networked multiplayer doesn’t work out, I do have a fallback plan to use the basic game mechanics for something that’s single player and more tycoon-like. Let’s see how this goes!

I’m in for Mini LD 66

I plan to use my RTSBase that I have been working on for the last few months to build a space RTS. I’ve never done the multiplayer aspect within my RTSBase, so that will be entirely new, but that’s what makes this fun! I’ll be exporting to flash for client and nodejs for server unless something goes crazy! I’ll post updates each day as I can!

Tools:

Haxe/Haxeflixel with HaxeDevelop

CastleDB for Unit stats

MPHX to do the multiplayer

Gimp for 8 bit graphics

Per line coloring

What does this mean?
It means when you are making a game with Jext you can have each line be a completely different color to the next so that’s pretty cool
Its all included in the Documentation on GameJolt

Hello, how do I download the source code?

WIP Basic Unity RTS Framework

RTS WIP Screenshot 0

Made with Unity if I can get the basic game working the plan is to quickly release it as a basic RTS framework for people to extend and improve.

Aiming to have (for V 0.1):

  • Basic RTS with simple UI.
  • Combat.
  • Resource Gathering.
  • Building Factories, Troops, Gatherers, Tanks

Then continue working on my own variation.

Is there anything you would like to see added?

MiniLD Progress Update

Hey its me Viper. I decided no AI for the invaders (I’m making a solar system sort of tower defense game)

I will be purely using commands to control them. I made a small animation for the Invaders that I’m proud of but theirs gonna be different kinds of invaders so I plan on making a different model for all of them with a different sort of animation. Working on adding all the different weapons on to the moon (that’s your base in the game.)Also trying to make it so the game remembers everything you have done in the past so you don’t put a building on top of another building and so on. Other then that I just wanted to say is that I’ve done 736 lines of code somebody told me that lines of code doesn’t matter. I am starting to agree with him. He said what the code dose is what really matters. For any one else that competing good luck and I hope you do well on this MiniLD.

(PS. I’m not going to spoil the whole game so don’t ask what the features are going to be!)

Some Progress

I have the basic API and web front end done for players to create and join each other’s games. This uses Node + Express to host a RESTful API on the server and some basic JQuery stuff on the client. Communication during gameplay will take place using SockJS web sockets, which will hopefully be fast enough for decent gameplay (which probably won’t be that fast-paced for an RTS – space is big).

Would you like to play a game?

I kind of made a game for the mini ld.  Guess you can go check it out?  It’s all very simple, so don’t expect a ton of game play from it.  It’s called “Dwarf in a Hole”.

I’m in for Ludum Dare 35! This is my second ludum dare, and I’ll be entering the compo.

Tools I’ll be Using (Unofficial):

– Eclipse
– Fruity Loops Studio
– Audacity
– Photoshop CS6

It is likely that I will be streaming on twitch.tv, although possibly not the whole time. No matter what though, I’m extremely excited for Ludum Dare 35!

Am I the only guy who’s made a game for Mini Ludum Dare in 2 days?

Yes. :p

Congrats for the game! I made my way to wave 11. It slightly resembles ‘Orcs Must Die’.

I’ve been making my game for the last 5 days, 4 days remaining… I had to cut off 80% of the original gameplay features because of the deadline, unfortunately.

It is the first game project I will finish and publish. Warming up for LD 35. :)

RPG maker VX ace

Hi, this is my first post and I was wondering if I am allowed to use RPG maker VX ace in the Ludum Dare compo, Thanks in advance.

I believe technically you can use the engine itself, but *all* artwork (sprites, UI, ect) would need to be created during the compo.

We’re in for Ludum Dare 35!

Hey there! This is Ben from Toasted Games, and I just woke up and don’t really know what’s going on! I’m pretty sure this is a Game Jam, though, right? Ok good. Erik Larson and I (Ben Collings) are going to be participating! Can we do that? I’m not sure how this works… I see a lot of people listing tools that they’re going to be using and writing that they’re gonna be participating in the title, so here:

We will be using (maybe)

  • Gamemaker 8.1
  • Photoshop CC
  • Paint.NET
  • Famitracker
  • Audacity

UPDATE: thanks to Ilseroth for answering my question about participating :)

For all intents and purposes, you just signed up. Technically there is no official signup process other then making an account, doing the jam and submitting the game in the time permitted.

You still use Game Maker 8.1? Dont get me wrong GM:S is a pile of garbage, but why not use something else. Oh and btw you should take a look at the ENIGMA Game Engine, its mostky compatible with GM8 games and is compiled, wich makes your game 1000 times faster

I’m in For Ludum Dare 35

i will be joining Ludum dare for the first time of my life

and i will be using the following tools

Construct 2

Adobe Fireworks

Sony Vegas (audio)

Welcome! Best of luck, and have fun! :)

Sure, I’m In!

This will be my 4th Ludum Dare: I completed LD28, dropped out of LD30, and redeemed myself by completing LD32. I’ve been really proud of my work every time I’ve participated, and I absolutely love this community, so I’m excited to be taking part once again (barring any unforeseen work disaster).

My tools will be:

–Unity and C# (Engine/Code)

–Flash and Photoshop (Art)

–bfxr, FakeMusicGenerator, and Audacity (SFX)

Very much looking forward to theme voting and developing another game!

I’m in for Ludum Dare 35

I’ve been working on a 2d game engine called GameSketch for a few years and I’ve decided to finish it!

GameSketch uses Chrome-PNaCl to load AngelScript over the web.  I’ve added a ton of built-in support for things like sprites, physics, components, tilemaps, and a lot more.

Check it out and tell me what you think.

Tools I’ll be using LD35:

GameSketch

CodeLite

Graphics Gale

Texture Packer

Sfxr

Akai MPK-mini + Ignite

Google search “Cat Font” and you will not be disappointed. The kittens shall not be ignored this time!

Me and my newly-expanded team are in again for this LD. This will be the teams third competition, and my fourth.

We’ve all got Monday off, so we’ll have plenty of time to make something great.

Tools:

Programming: Groovy + LibGDX

Art: Paint.net

Music & Sound: IDK. Ask Ben.

If all goes well, this should be a great weekend.

My first non-Game

I am new here and I have a non-game i created this month for an Opera House in France. Yes , you’ve heard..

So I would love to get feedback from you all.

Here is the link for the game and instructions:

J’ai essayé. C’est vraiment zarbi :)

I assume that you are not a real developer. It’s not a criticism – as you said, this is a non-game project. If I should summarize your project, I would use the word “weird”. I have a good PC with a processor from last generation and a good graphics card. However, there is a big problem – it sucks. Too many shaders, too many prefabs and nothing is really optimized. Overall, it’s interesting – and I love this chicken :)

Bon courage pour la suite ++

I am so hyped about the next LD. I just can not wait. #LD35

Our tools include, but are not limited to:

  • GameMaker Studio

  • Audacity

We’re really, really excited to finally be doing this! #LD35

I’m in!

Well, that’s it, I want my profile to exist! Y_Y

I’m in.

Participating again this time around. For LD34, I created Celebration of Jand. I’m excited to see what I can come up with this time around.

I’ll be writing the game in C++ with a small framework of mine which can be found here. For music, I’ll likely use Garageband. For sound effects, I’ll have to improvise as I usually do. For graphics, I’ll probably use Pyxel Edit.

IM IN!

Soo hyped up for this LD i know its gonna be the best one ever 😀

Pre-Ludum Dare Warm-ups / I’m In post

Hey guys! I’m in for my 7th times! Last Ludum Dare was amazing, and I placed #16 in Audio and #60 something in Mood… But I tanked all the other categories. My entry was solely based on the atmosphere, and this time around. I am not going to make the same mistake. I want to focus on making a simple, addictive, fun game that is enjoyable to play. My goals this LD, are top 10 in audio, top 100 in fun, and top 250 in overall.

I’m in.

In preparation for this upcoming Ludum Dare. I’ve been working on some new tracks and new style. I feel like I am finally at a skill level that I can place top 10 in audio. Listen to my new tracks here…

Help me improve this game

I feel this game has a strong base, potential to become something that it isn’t.  Please play the game and answer the below google survey so that I could take your feedback and program it!  Don’t worry, it’s a short survey: only 2 questions, only one of which is required.

My kids and my exchange student and his sister are going to make a game.  This will be our 4th Ludume dare.  We are very excited.

The Rules Regarding Fonts?

Problem:

In a game made for the Ludum Dare Compo, what would the rules be regarding fonts? Because we must make everything in the game ourselves, so would we have to make every font in the game ourselves. Or would we need to use exclusively royalty free fonts. Or would we need to credit the author under a creative commons license?

Example:

Take for example, I had a pixel art platformer where I wanted to display the score in the top right. Because there is no pixel art style font built into windows, I would usually just download a font off Dafont, But for Ludum Dare Compo, I don’t know if I would have to make this font myself, or download a royalty free font or what?

P.S. Could you please provide a list of allowed fonts if possible.

You are not one, bro..

WE ALL WILL DIE from all this fan \0.o/

(ya, i am melancholiac)

gl&hf :3

Let’s do this!

I’m finally confident enough to produce a game quickly! I don’t think I’ll do the 48 hour, but the longer jam! Free time still hard to come by…

GLHF to all, and to all a good theme slaughter.

I’m In…maybe

Barring any horrible disasters, I *should* be participating in the next Jam.  Very likely I’ll be working alone, using Unity for the engine, with Blender for modeling, Gimp and Inkscape for texturing, as well as Audacity and Caustic 3 for sound and music design.

The aforementioned “Horrible Disasters” would include my computer exploding, being stuck in a car for most of the duration of the Jam, etc.

I’m in… Maybe. I mean, it’s my dad’s birthday so… But I’m in!

The Ludum Dare 35 it’s going down the DAY of my dad’s birthday party so I don’t know if I’ll actually submit a whole game this time. But I know I’ll do my best!

I don’t actually know what tools I’ll use but it’s probably going to be something like Unity, GameMaker: Studio or even Construct 2 cause it takes the least time to “program” the game so I can focus more on mechanics and that juicy game feel.

Super exited for this LD and, if my dad is ok with me missing some of his party, i’ll make the most out of it!

LET’S DO THIS!

Freamcoding at LD35

Hey guys, Fream here!

After taking part in 2 or 3 MLD I’ll be joining the 35 Ludum Dare.

Right now It’s not decided whether it’ll be the team jam or the solo competition, but I’m leaning towards the solo jam at the moment.

I’ll be definitely using the Unity engine, and probably Graphics Gale + Gimp for making the graphics, audio wise if I get lucky enough I’ll hook up an electric piano to the pc so I can record some things.

The whole process will be streamed as usual on: www.twitch.tv/freamcoding

Good luck to everyone who joins and I hope we all have as much as fun as I did during the MLD’s!
