LD 43

We're in for our 20th LD in a row

Hi everyone! We're in for this weekend, with a full team of 3, and this will be our 20th LD in a row. I just got nostalgic looking back at all our entries over the past 6 years, so made a little montage of all the LD thumbnails:

Feeding the Robot

Thought I'd do a quick progress update before heading to bed. Below is a bare-bones view of how the overall level design will look, it's going to be a sort horrifying dystopian lemmings.

People/Power Submitted!

We have submitted our entry, People/Power. It's a game about feeding tiny people to a giant robot, and plays a bit like Lemmings with unreliable physics.

You can play it here:

Our LD 40 Entry is on Steam!

Hi all, sorry for the self-promotion (I always feel a bit weird about it), but really wanted to post about this. We polished up our game from LD 40 and it's turned into our first ever commercial release. We've done every Ludum Dare since August 2012, and in that time we've learned such a massive amount, and that we have managed to get something to a releasable standard is amazing to me. So I'd like to thank LD, Mike and all the community, as we could not have done it without this game jam.

Our game is called Cherry Creek, and it's relatively small in scope (that was the idea!) - it's a tile-turning puzzle game where you click the tile to line up the river and help trees grow. We've always had good feedback on our audio-visuals and atmosphere, so we tried to get that right in this game. It's basically an attempt at a Pipemania style game but set in a natural environment, and with a nice ambience.

If anyone wants to check it out then it's on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1018990/Cherry_Creek/

Pottery Game!

Hi everyone, we are in for Ludum Dare 44! We are going with quite a loose interpretation of the theme, as we had a cool idea and we really wanted to try it out. It's going to be a pottery game, you'll play a lonely potter who has to sell pots each day to survive.

We have a very vague mock-up of the workshop and exhibition area, going for a hand-drawn look this time around:

Pottery Update

So it turns out making a pottery game is hard, but we are progressing in the right direction (I think!)

Here is an updated screenshot of the pottery workshop, and the new mouse potter.

Pottery Video Update!

Made a little gameplay video for our pottery game. It's still quite rough, but you can hopefully see what we're going for. I am very tired, hopefully this video will embed properly...

Seize the Clay Submitted

We have submitted our pottery game, this was the closest to the deadline we've ever been I think - literally 5 minutes to go!

Will try and do a proper update after some sleep (it's nearly 4am here). Anyway you can check out the game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/seize-the-clay

Relax with Some Mouse-Based Pottery

Thank you to everyone who has rated Seize the Clay so far, we've had some really nice comments (and also some very fair criticism). Also thanks to anyone who gets the terrible pun I made in the title of this post.

We've put together a new GIF, which helps to explain the gameplay a bit better, so if anyone would like to give the game a go you can do so here:

Ludum Dare 45

For the First Time Since 2012... I am Not In.

Hi everyone, I've decided that after 21 Ludum Dare's in a row, I might actually need to take a break. The last few jams have been a bit of a struggle, and even though I was pleased with the results I think a lot of the enjoyment was missing. I guess that means time to step away for a little while before I fall out of love with the whole process.

I realised that I entered the last 2 jams just to 'keep my streak going', as there was talk in the past of having badges for long-standing members of the community etc, as well as migrating history from the old site and so on. It looks like none of that stuff is coming, so I think it's time for me to stop worrying about it. After all, if I come back next time then 22 out of 23 jams still isn't bad!

I also think that the competition has grown so much since I first entered in 2012, and despite it still being one of the best and least toxic communities on the internet, the sheer number of games has taken away a bit of the magic for me. So it's still always going to be my first love, and I will be back, but for now I'll just say good luck to everyone who enters and see you all again soon.
