Starting from scratch

I’m in. I just got haxe setup on my computer and I’m ready to start working on an idea I’ve had for some time.

Here’s the first screenshot of what I’ve got so far:

Lame first screenshot

Humble beginnings.

Things I still need to do:

  1. Make the game.
  2. Make it not suck.
  3. Make it look good.
  4. Make it sound good.
  5. Make an attractive website for it.
  6. Make sure it works on iPhone, iPad, and Android.
  7. Submit to the Apple App Store.
  8. Submit to the Android Market.
  9. Submit to some flash game site.
  10. Make a buck.
That’s only ten things. I can do ten things in one month. 10

Mostly done. Sort of.

If you look at it a certain way, then I’m almost done. If you look at it the real way, then all that’s left is the stuff I’m not good at.

Squares!

My setup and my progress

I know I’m a few days late to the “pictures of my workspace” party, but I’ve been busy. I work on a MacBook either at a cafe or on my balcony overlooking Sacramento, CA.

And here’s a screenshot of my recent progress with saving, continuing, and plant lifecycle on my October game. Details on on my dev blog.

Preliminary plants and animal squares.

Failed!

I can’t make good graphics, sound effects, or music. The code is good, the ideas are interesting (to me at least) but it’s time to cut my losses and get back to the giant piles of laundry, dishes, and junk mail that I’ve been neglecting the last few weeks.

Retrospective and thoughts about next time on my dev blog.

Here’s some pictures of procedurally generated plants I was working on. Each row is a bunch of individuals from the same species.
