Im in

This is my first Ludum Dare and as such I don’t know what’s going on… though I’m pretty sure saying ‘Im in’ means I’m all official.

Im going to be using Processing probably to make the game… I was going to use opengl but I figure Processing is a nice trade of having a bit of openglnuss and having extremely speedy development time. Photoshop for the visuals and sounds err… I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it, I’m thinking microphone and making strange noises.

Ah yeah, SFXR! Ive heard of that and had it in the back of my head as something to maybe use but I couldntfor the life of me remember what it was called. Doh I didnt think to look on the tools page :)

Only just starting

I stayed up way past my bedtime last night to see what the theme was and fully intended to sleep after finding out, instead I spent the next 2 hours not really sleeping then half waking up and emailing myself ideas… sleepy ideas. It’s like reading emails from a drunk person. Anyway I am now fully up and it’s time for me to catch up! Here is the obligatory workspace photo, I say workspace… more just my incredibly comfy sofa and the only computer I own :)

There are more fairy lights than can be seen there, and the big telly lurking behind my laptop will be playing my favourite films all day :)

Time for bed

Super tired now, Ive started getting a bit of the story in and the character walks, which is useful! Took me ages to figure out how to alpha fade in the text, silly tint(); I love processing though so Im not going to complain.

I want to change so many things, the text needs to be thought of ALOT more, the visuals are no where near finished and the actual key to the ‘gameplay’ has yet to be written. I think I’m starting to think more that this isn’t really a game it’s just something that looks like a game oO

Good luck to those who are staying up late!

As finished as it’s going to get

So it’s been a long two days, or rather one long day of too many ideas and starting things I couldnt finish, and a second shorter day of finishing something that is vaguely alright fast.

This version of it looks okay but was too complicated to finish, the one Im uploading has been stripped right back to very little content. I kinda wish I’d have spend two days just making things look nice… But instead I threw stuff together with terribad code. It was quite a learning experience, I thought Id gotten over greatly underestimating how long it takes me to do stuff, but maybe not :)

I have completed my two day long timelapse video now too… this is probably the most awesome thing to come out of this experience, look at me go! It almost appears as though I know exactly what Im doing !
