LD 39

I´ve got no time - but count me in!

last LD didnt go well for me, but this time i will aim lower again. Just like it was seid in the keynote. Aim for 4 hours and you´ll make it (probably). Aswell as this time i won´t focus on doing smth artsy-fartsy just because.. but won´t let me put down by other games or ideas. You know, selfesteem, games are art, etc . I want to finish a game again.

My Tools: Gamemaker:Studio or Phaser-Typescript Photoshop LMMS and sfxr Coffeemachine

space comedy - comedy iin spaaaace!

Is it a bad idea to write a space comedy in english, if its not my native language? Well, we´ll see at least i know what to do with this horrible theme. You are the newly assigned commander of DEEP STATION FINE and have to manage your regular space day with your officers. A shy science officer, your always-horny chief of engineering, a wild west sheriff as security officer and a cynical doctor, when an old blingon vessel appears everyone thought was MIA three years ago.

Dabbo! Dabbo!

Ive updated the game to let you play Dabbo! Aaaand we got over 20! Thank you for playing and rating :) If you dare to let Quirk spin the wheel follow the link: https://ancientpixel.itch.io/deep-station-fine and here is my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/deep-station-fine dabbo00.gif

Roll your Dough - the wrap up

Firstly, if you want to play: play it here! every rating and feedback is appreciated.

Secondly i want to shout out some other entries with a similar flavour of corporate life: Imperial Eggnog Incorporated Eat your Cereals

So when the theme got announced I was already bagelrolling with my partner and it obviously clicked. It was clear, that you had to roll bagels, maybe as a drab dayjob. Bang! Game!

35912.png

I started with the alarmclock and from then on it was clear that your day was somehow timed. Ultimately you get different amount of bagels for each day, depending on your workday rating. Eg 8 bagels are 8 work hours before you collect your daily paycheck. I knew I wanted you to kind of daydream at work or something like that, so i threw in some bagel and loop facts, that felt very dystopian. Unfortunately my font choice was not the greatest and some players rightfully remarked that. I went for a resolution of 256x160 and this font to evoke a pico8 style, although i settled for a drab colour palette to underline the mood of the game. Also some players had problem with rolling the dough, as I didnt tutorialize it one bit. That was plainly an oversight on my side and I would have solved it through a workers manual that you can look at, at your worktable.

Your day is structered in different modules. Alarmclock, Breakfast, Workday and paycheck, repeat but with advancements in the story. These modules really helped me getting the game done, bc it controlled feature creep as every feature is just a small section. Originally i wanted you to have different jobs, rolling, baking, packaging and even management. Showing that its repeating and drab no wether what and you cant win capitalism. But i had to cut that due to time. In the storybits there is talk about, work from home and the political instabilities. So it was ok, to not have these career opportunities, but to get a more and more absurd situation of still working although the world goes to hell around you. On the paycheck screen you have to rate your workday which will change your wakeup time, how much youll get paid and how long you have to work. You give a 5 star rating and of course its all smileys^^

You can end the game in several ways. Either you oversleep and get fired. Cant afford any rent anymore bc you didnt make enough bagels (unrolled bagels get subtracted from your salary) or with time you get the opportunity to choose suicide. It felt bleak, but nobody complained^^ So you can either be passive or active to let the game end and break the loop. It was really hard to fight the feeling, that that would feel cheap. However, if you choose to kill yourself, you will discover that you arent human after all.

Help me rolling in some reviews!

Roll your Dough one last time and leave a rating to get delicious Bagels and some political commentary! I do play and rate all games from commenters, as I was very happy with the theme and all the games you all came up with :)

Also i want to announce, that I continued work on Deep Station Fine from LD45! I was very happy with my workflow on Roll your Dough as I could give up on perfection and just draw some sprites and embraced their asymmetry. That took away many fears about animating stuff or doing big sprites. Idk why and but it opened a knot. So, Space Station Fine will still be interface and text heavy, but be way more open and less on rails, as you can freely move between locations and rooms within the ships and stations - with your friends - over the internet. The story will progress like a text adventure and the interaction are more action and point and click driven.

I hope you all have slept well, happy coding and remember: if you dont make it to the compo, you can always aim for the jam, or make the game your new pet project^^

Wheeee... and over the finish line

I´ve made it! And you made it too! My bookmarks are filling with interesting looking games and I am looking forward to playing them tomorrow, after some good hours of sleep and recreation to wind back down

You can play mine here - please rate and comment as feedback is much appreciated!

Learn what it means to be a Troglodyte

Take a (trip deep into the desert)[https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/aleph-qoph-duat] and learn to be a warden of the oasis.promo05.PNG

BTW: Ive played and saw so many good games! I was prepared to hate the theme, but grew to love it

The last day to expand the oasis, deeper into the desert!

promo08.PNG

The event comes to an end, if you havent visited it yet, or want to have a go again. Let´s meet at the oasis and let it reclaim the desert, growing trees or get lost in between the dunes.

Each time the server is empty the oasis will shrink again, so stay a while, listen (read^^) to its story and maybe you´ll meet someone to go with you :)

Thanks everyone for playing until now - it was always a blast to see you running around, jumping and trying to communicate without words <3

This theme is very hard for me

demo00.gif

for hours I poked at ideas and now I am trying to make that a game.

I actually would retry to make another entry I never finished, but with every minute its harder to switch tracks :S

my Drive gave up

ldFailem01.PNG ldFail/em00.PNG

but i didn´t!

Luckily I could save the assets and ~60% of the code. So after a brief period of silently screaming, I ditched the hard drive and count on my 500gb main drive to not die too today. This was majorly demotivating - but doing anything else today feels like wasted time if I have the chance to rewrite the damn thing!

Brainxious

I thought I wouldn´t make it this time again! But Brainxious just barely made it over the finishing line.

Push anxiety out of the way and all tasks and duties deeper into your brain!

as if it only could be done so easily...
