LD15

Got two unit’s moving towards each other and shooting!

Then I tried it with 2000 unit’s 1000 a side and it kind of went a bit slow, turn based strategy anyone! ;o)

But did uncover the fact the the unit’s are extremely dense, but then I made them!

Anyway need to add a carrier or three and some LC’s to ferry them to the beach!

3:26.10 – hmm might need lots more coffee!

Only due to cutbacks and time management issues the landing craft will not be available in time, just as well as the red army are on holiday…

So no war today, still there is always tomorrow!

Going for LD 17

Yeah, LD 17 going to go retro and flash based development with either Flixel or Flashpunk, just started learning them but aim to have the basics ready for this weekend!

How have I got enough good tunes, pizza, curry to last a weekend?

If you know of any great resources for Flash game development let me know!

both engines you mentioned have great forums! I was contemplating using FlashPunk this time too. I’ve only made one prototype with is so far though and I don’t have a lot of time this LD.

Missed the Boat – Darn those pesky droids!!

Well my entry would have been…

Energy Islands: Conquest

Green dot is your Marine Commando fresh from his drop pod!

Green dot is your Marine Commando fresh from his drop pod!

In the not too distant future…

The droids and computers have rebelled and taken over our energy islands, it’s your job to get them back…

You have an aging carrier and a bank of cloned marine commandos!

What are you waiting for GO!

Note seems really slow/unplayable in IE, but works fine in Chrome and Firefox!

If I had managed to get the droid army to work right or just dropped them I might have made it under the wire!

Working Features..

  • Island Missile Turrets
  • Missiles
  • Crarrier
  • Drop Pod Marine Commando’s ;o)
  • Bullets
  • Swimming
  • Island Hub Capture

Not working features..

  • Droid Army – Used the Mode Bot as a quick drop in enemy at the last minute, but it’s angular thrust didn’t work and just sent them in a spin!

Keys ASWD – Space – LMB ;o)

Developed in Flash using the Flixel framework!

Uploading timelapse!

Timelapse – >48hr Time-Lapse

LD18

$1,000,000.00

Going for the October Challenge with a Million Dollar game, just need the one sale an I could win! ;o)

LD19

It’s out at last…

Cancer Wars v0.1 – The Movie of the Game

Cancer Wars v0.1

2D Cure-Em-Up – Battle for inner space against slimy green nasties to cure cute patients using Nano Technology circa 2099.

Built using the Unity game engine, free to play online at http://CancerWarsGame.org.

A bit late for the last LD challege, and following the trend of DonationWare with 50% going to charty and 50% going to further development!

I don’t think it will be the next minecraft but fingers crossed…

Please try it and let me know what you think… and remeber to donate to charity!

More about the build process on my blog here

Kind Regards
Al

LD20

OK I’m in…

I’m going to take a break from my current 50:50 donationware project Cure ‘Em Up! (links to 8bit funding page) and see if I can throw together a quick game/prototype for LD20…

Tools: Unity, Blender, Gimp, Xara…

Now I must get back the developing a Nanosub Heads Up Display…

Morning LD’s…

OK I have a game concept, with an idea for the styling, first things first though breakfast!

The Island…

Very first build steps with Unity…

The Island emerges from the sea

Will update as I progress, hmmm movement next perhaps?

Island racing…

Race you to the top.. ;0)

Remember to slow down before you hit the peak!

Island racing…

Red towers…

There be strange red towers on that there island…

Red tower Island

And even strange effects in the water from your lamplight!

Note: Overwriting previous projects so only the latest post is relevant.

Wow, that looks amazing for a browser game. Very slick and a beautiful sunset. Can’t wait to play the finished product.

That’s mostly the engine Unity ad it’s pre-fabs, you may notice that there is no gameplay yet!

Take This!??

Minor update hammer in view so ready for some FPH* action, and widened view to 800px wide screen!

It may be dangerous to go alone!

What be that thing on the rock…

Hmm could just be just the thing to get our own back, me thinks!

Maybe if I were to pick it up and press leftly thus it would be thrown and thence thrown if I were to press again would return such are the ways of enchanted things.

They be no use for carpentry though…

Red Tower Island

That’s it for day one, sleep needed!

Nice graphics, but it’s very glitchy. Might be because I’ve got a lot of processes running at the moment, but I can’t step more than a couple dozen meters until the frame rate goes to lunch. When I start up the game it’s too fast to control. Great work for a day, though! I’ll try again later when I’ve reached a stopping point on my own project. :)

Still got the high speed in there from when I was testing the hill climbing limits, I’ve also been messing with the build settings it could be those!

It were a dark stormy night…

On the island there is a plinth

Take This!

Hmm and it were red lightning that destroyed our ship lad…

Be careful lad it may be dangerous to go alone!

Are you all right lad you still look a bit shakey!

The Island

Well day two and I have just spent most of it playing with the graphics/effects and tweeking things… Well off to lunch and then how about some gameplay!

A Postmortem – Jammed…

A quick postmortem of my LD20 experience…

Woke up read winning entry and then turned over to dream a game, got up a bit later with a fully formed game design buzzing in my head!

First play with Unitys Terrain tools had an island rising from the sea, but made the first mistake of using Unity textures to paint the island and skybox!

But a static view of an island with nice water and skybox does not make a game. Dropped in the FPS controller and he presto running around on the island.

(2 hours)

Oops the player can’t climb steep slopes, spend time trying to make the slopes shallower and test/repeat…

Some time later.. ! Change settings for max slope in controller!

(1 hour)

Towers: using default cubes and physics build a tower! Find a cool diamond material (oops!) and prefab it.

Position towers…

(3 hours)

Build weapon and plinth in blender…. drop into Unity.

(1.5 hours)

Picking up and Throwing the weapon to destroy the towers…

(4.5 hours)

Boomerang weapon return after throw.

(1.5 hours)

Day one over…

Day Two…

Played around with the graphic effects to give the impression of fatigue and near collapse for player.

Getting the towers to fight back fireballs were needed.

Spent a good deal of time tweaking the basic gameplay and had a lull, this seams to be a recurring problem in LD’s by day two I’m tired and tend to make less progress.

Got back too it and pulled together an intro scene and then released it as a Jam…

I should have avoided using Unity textures and prefabs (palm trees) to make a true LD entry!

Definitly should have done a warm up game/project to get the feel of starting from scratch again!

No Music/Sfx – Need to work on music/sfx creation from scratch!
No Player death/health
No Win State
No Levels
No Variety

Had great fun and I think ‘From the wreck of HMS Lightning’ is very atmospheric but lacking in depth!
