Snowman Sumo is DONE! :D

Hooray, I鈥檝e finished! This is certainly my most polished LD entry, so I鈥檓 really pleased about that. It鈥檚 not a bad game, either! 馃槈

Since I posted the last build, the player physics is a lot more slippery and bouncy, you can knock snow off your opponent, there re particle effects, and even (a cappella) music and sound effects!

Game page is at http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=1049 and it鈥檚 playable online at http://atkinssj.itch.io/snowman-sumo. Find a friend, and give it a go! :)

Frankenstein鈥檚 Monsters, Inc

Morning folks! Not my favourite theme, but not the worst. I’m making a game about Dr Frankenstein, who as everyone knows, is the real monster in the story. It’s a management game about running a monster-building business. I have a tendency to always aim too high in game jams, but I think that I’ve managed to simplify it enough to be feasible. Enjoy an exciting concept-art sketch:

Aaand I have a sketch of what Frankenstein's Monsters, Inc. will look like! Yay! #LDJAM pic.twitter.com/YhwmOVfFwQ

(Apologies for my awful handwriting.) Not to actually start making something!

It’s Horrible Programmer Art Time!

First screenshot! I think you'll agree, it's quite beautiful. #LDJAM pic.twitter.com/DhaPGeqqNi

Game’s going quite well! The three stages of monster production (grave robbing, stitching together, and zapping with electricity) are in, and you can drag monsters you produce into those three departments to assign them to work. Not much actual game logic remains, then I can spend lots of time making slightly-less-horrible programmer art.

Frankenstein’s Monsters, Inc. is done. Huzzah!! Give it a go at http://atkinssj.itch.io/ld33-frankensteins-monsters-inc (Playable as HTML5 in browser, or as a Java download.)

Had a small panic last-minute when I had to rewrite some things for the HTML5 build to work, but it’s all sorted now.

To everyone still working: You can do it! 馃榾

Ecosystem/Gardening thing

Super happy with the theme as ever since playing Waking Mars, I’ve wanted to make a game about playing with an ecosystem. I haven’t posted any screenshots here yet, but here’s one from a few moments ago:

It's starting to come together now! 馃榾 #LDJAM pic.twitter.com/EFyOmKH1P1

There’s only one kind of plant right now, but you plant seeds which grow if the soil humidity is right, and they’ll spread their own seeds once they’ve matured and flowered. (Humidity is indicated by the soil colour, the bluer the wetter it is.)

I don’t think there’s going to be a goal at all, just a sandbox to play around in. I’ll be adding more plants, maybe animals, maybe insects if I get time, maybe weather, maybe light/dark and plant preferences for that. A whole lot of maybes, basically!
