LD 44

I’m in!

On ty way to the cabin for a weekend in solitude. My first LD! This is going to be fun. (I hope).

Tools: Unity, Photoshop, Blender, LMMS

Finished!

I did it! My first LD and my first released game ever. Battery Life is a top-down action/puzzler. You are a battery and you have to use your energi, (your lifesource), to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

Made a trailer :)

Made a trailer for my game Battery Life. Try it out if you haven't already :) (Available on PC and WebGL)

Spend the lifesource of a battery - But spend it right :)

In Battery Life you play a battery who has to use it's energy to manipulate the environment. The poor battery has to escape through the blue doors and you have to guide it. The game is a top-down action/puzzler game.

Need help

I'm working on a post LD version of my game and I'm really stuck regarding the inclusion of enemies. People who have reviewed the game both say that the inclusion of enemies helps build tension, while other say the game could do without them. What do you think? Leave a comment if you have tried the game and have an opnion on the matter. Thank you.

Short post LD update on my game

I want to thank all the people who have given me feedback on my game. I never knew that listening to other peoples opinion on my game would give me so much insight and direction. This is my first LD and the community has surprised me in a positive way.

One of the things that surprised me most was how different feedback can be. It's hard to choose a direction for further development when some love a specific feature and others hate it :) I guess this is a common dilemma for game developers.

I've been working hard on the game for the last 2 weeks and made many improvements based on your input. I've tried to alleviate the problems that seemed to be the worst.

CAMERA MOVEMENT

A lot of you loved the camera movement, whilst many felt the camera was inhibiting the view when trying to spot enemies etc. I've now implemented a "zoom" feature which makes it easier to check your surroundings while not losing any details.

PREDICTABLE ENERGY CONSUMPTION

Although it was a part of the puzzle, many struggled with the uncertainty of how much energy a certain machine needed. I have now made this easier to discern. It's clearly visible on the size of the "tank". Also, many machines will now not start until you have given it the right amount.

SLOW AND LOUD EXIT DOORS

No more irritation, no more slow and loud doors :)

ENEMY BEHAVIOUR

The precense of enemies have been a headache. The majority of the people who gave feedback on this seemed to be split down the middle. Some really loved the implementation of enemies whilst other cincerely hated them. I'm now working on totally changing the enemy mechanics in the game. They no longer shoot and are now a part of the puzzle. You lure them into traps, and it will be possible to drain their energy.

RESTART REQUIRED?

The level design and mechanics have been changed so you no longer will be stuck, (not having enough power without knowing it), and need to restart.

Again, thanks to all of you for getting me this far. I'm really exited for the future of this project.

Finished!

I'm finally finished! I made a two player game which also can be played in single player :) Check it out, I'm going to sleep.

For the time being the game is only available in a downloadable version. The WebGL version didn't play nice, so I will add that later.

Made a timelapse video

Hi everybody and thanks to all who have tried my game. I have made a timelapse video of the development. If anyone is interested you can find it here:

The video

I'm working on a post-mortem of my experience this time. It will mostly be a cautionary tale about the importance of focusing on gameplay :)
