Pixel Town - Rate it before its too late

Some Shameful self promotion: As the judging is almost over and I had so far resisted the temptation to spam the feed, maybe you would like to play my "city building/4x/strategy/tower defence/wish I had thought more about the design upfront" game before its done. Some people that played it said they enjoyed it, maybe they were just being polite. Judge for yourself. Its playable in a browser so not much effort required. Here I'll help you get started. Play Here PixelTown_first.gif

Sorry couldn't figure out how to make the gif smaller in markdown

I'm In

3rd LD for me - 3rd time's a charm hopefully. Hope to restrain myself on scope this time and manage something a bit more polished, maybe try to pour in a less insane amount of hours, but who knows, its so much fun its hard not to. Also hope to finish in time for the compo

Tools: * Unity or possibly Phaser, Visual Studio * Aseprite or maybe Blender if I go 3D (but that already sounds like a terrible idea for keeping down scope) * Reaper or maybe try something new for music (once again probably a bad idea), probably bfxr for sfx * SourceTree and bitbucket for source control

A Shockingly unoriginal tool collection, but there you go.

See you all on the other side.

Done in time for the compo

Rocket-Rescue4.gif Well I made it in time for the compo, uploaded to itch just on the deadline but had to wait till today till the LD server was back to life for the LD page. My 3rd LD, pretty happy with the result - it seems i am doomed to never think of any original ideas, but having fun basically trying to recreate games from around 1984.

I still managed to find time to record audio some foley audio sfx and use a synth other than bfxr, and make a quick background music track.

Pixel art didn't turn out too bad, by my own standards at least ;), thanks to whoever posted a mention of MortMort's #SoftMilk32 palette that I ended up using.

I totally failed on my goal of not letting the number of work hours get out of control and balancing for breaks. If anything I seem to be increasing the number of hours i spend with each LD. At my current rate in a couple more LDs I will not only have sacrificed all my sleeping time but will also have needed to invent time travel. Sooooooo glad I took monday off work.

Feel free to try my game here Maybe even leave a comment

At some point I will also try and upload a unity WebGL version also, but that minor nightmare can wait.

Rocket Rescue Post Jam Version

Rocket-Rescue5.gif Thanks to everyone that played and gave feedback on my game, its all much appreciated.

As the rating for this LD is now almost done I made a post jam version with a bunch of the stuff I originally meant to do, but ran out of time for including, updated background and graphics, more levels and a few additional mechanics and a bit of polish.

The main point people raised was control/movement of the player so I spent quite a bit of time trying to get that to feel better. Also due to popular demand, I took out the limited lives so you can replay a level as much as needed without starting from the beginning again.

If anyone wants to give it a try and tell me if the control/movement is an improvement or not that would be appreciated. Happy to return the favour and try anyone else's post jam versions or original submissions if i didn't already.

LD Page here

Itch with Post Jam version here, including web version, this also has the original as a download.

In case you didn't already rate the game and felt like doing that the Old LD Submission version in web player is now here

I already have enough ratings though, so if you only want to play one, feedback on the latest version would be more helpful. I'm sort of tempted to try and flesh it out into a real game, so feel free to tell if that sounds like a good or bad idea to you and if so if I should pay an actual artist to do the artwork? :)

This was my third LD and I had a blast again, already looking forward to the next one

The pre-jam ritual 'I'm in'

Because after you post 'I'm in' there's no backing out

4th Consecutive LD for me.

Nothing original for tools - Unity, Aseprite or Blender, Reaper for music.

Going to try and focus more on game design this time and not get too distracted with art/music. Even brought copies of 'The Art of Game Design' and 'A Theory of Fun', unfortunately haven't had time to actually read that much of them yet so hopefully just owning them will magically transform my games into being fun.

Nothing left to do but hope the theme doesn't suck too much. Good luck everyone

yeughARXCSXXXX - I'm Done

Well I'm officially jammed out - still put up something. It seems like maybe i was watching too much Narcos and thinking about GTA recently - the result is this weird thing Pixel Cartel

I don't have the energy (or the memory) for writing post mortems. All i remember is that i feel like i spent the last 3 days wrestling with Unity's new TileMap feature, sort of feel like I should have just stuck to Tiled. Ok time for bed

I'm in

4th LD in a row I think. Using Unity, aseprite or blender, Reaper, probably Bfxr or Sfxr. So far drawing a complete blank on every final theme, so ...
