I'm In! It's been a while.

It's been a while since I've done one of these, I think the last one I did was the ancient technology theme. For the past couple jams they would fall during finals week or something would come up that weekend. But this time I don't have anything this weekend!

Here's what I'll be using: Engine: Unity C# Art: Photoshop Music: The sounds of me crying (I would use Audacity if I can get to it)

I plan on trying to do a live stream, I don't know if I'll get to do the whole time, but I hope for a good chunk of it. Here's my twitch link if anyone wants to drop by: https://www.twitch.tv/snowcactus_ I hope to also stream me playing your games when it's judging time.

Good luck all!

Life Starts Here Bank

Here's my progress so far: Capture.PNG

Basically this is death by bills, but taken literally. Should have started with programming the game play, but this helps me stay on track.

Started my stream

I know we are on day 1, but I started my stream if anyone wants to join in. I wanted to skip the boring parts of me sitting there thinking and jump into the juicy stuff of me actually working on something. I would appreciate it!

So far I have the run away, and when you are outside of their range, they book it to the door to escape.

Core mechanics almost done

The hide and go seek mechanics are almost done, I just need to decorate the rooms and make more places to hide. Also for them to move around when you aren't looking. Capture 3.PNGCapture 4.PNGCapture 5.PNG

There are some additional features I want to add, but I'll get to it later haha.

Life (will not) Start Here Bank (I broke it :( )

So I broke my game :( Sad guy.jpg I went over to a friend's house Saturday and I had Unity on my laptop, but it was a newer version than I have on my desktop. So I loaded it on this newer version. But later when I went on my desktop I had to bring it down to the older version, and now I have like 50 errors saying things are missing. So lesson learned, get the newest versions on all devices, and use Github or any other repository. I made a new project and imported the assets, but now it'll take a lot of work to reassign everything, and it's basically making a new game with my current assets at that point.

Now what? I do like my game idea of like a hide and go seek mechanic, I think it's unique. And my core mechanic didn't really mix well with the theme, so I'll change the theme of my game. But first, I'm going to update all my devices and get github on them.

So are you done with Ludum Dare now? Not quite, I plan on playing your games and streaming it over on my twitch channel.

Question for the next Ludum Dare, I know Unity is popular, but what platform do you all mostly develop for? Now that Chrome is being picky with unity browser games, are you guys making it an installer and executable? I know installers are not recommended for our games, so is there a way to just have the executable and share that?

Thanks all and good luck!!

I'm in!

It's been a while for my schedule and Ludum Dare to agree with each other. I'm excited! I did the Global Game Jam and that was a lot of fun!

  • Unity (I've been practicing with 3D recently)
  • Maya
  • Photoshop
  • ZBrush

Good luck everyone!

Update - I have my dialog system in!

After getting a little late start, I came up with my idea. I'm hopping to have a little bit of a Majora's Mask inspiration for my game, keeping the memory of fallen heroes alive as you take on their image. I spent a good portion of my morning getting my movement to feel very N64 MM feel with camera snaps and all!

I just finished my dialog system for the NPC's so now I can move onto modeling, rigging, and animating. Maybe after a shower. (The player is a placeholder for now)

White boxing is done, time to crank out some models

My game is coming along very nicely. I got the logic done (combat, dialog, movement) I finished white boxing my level last night, now it's time to do some speed modeling and write up the dialog for the NPC's then I'll be in the home stretch! Whitebox done.JPG

I did it!

I'm glad I did, I'm not upset that I didn't get to exactly where I wanted, but I learned so much doing this! Especially animating, rigging, modeling, and some other logical goodies. This is a fun idea, I might want to continue on with it because there hasn't been any recent Majora's Mask like games in a while. Hope you enjoy it! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/$193678 Picture 1.jpg

First Night's Progress

"Do you want to play a game of chance? 2 Buttons, one releases deadly gas, and the other gives you a piece of cheese." First person puzzle game in Unity, keeping it simple this weekend, but hopefully will have some good fun on the way!

Let's play a game of chance

One button will release deadly gas, and the other will give you a piece of cheese. Time to add some quality of life features, then it'll be done. promo2.JPG

Compo game done!

It's done! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/a-game-of-chance Title Page.jpg I can't talk too much about it, because I don't want to spoil the puzzles, but hopefully it'll be a mind bending opportunity!
