LD26

1st timer here :D (Call me an LD-Virgin?)

I was planning on joining the previous one, but i had no ideas whatsoever on the genre. We’ll see what the genre will be this time.

Tools (because everyone posts what they make their game with):

  • XNA as framework
  • Paint.NET / Photoshop for graphics
  • SFXR maybe for sfx

I wish you all luck :)

SFXR for sound sfx? So SFXR for sound sound effects

Question about the use of my own personal code libraries

I have made a few personal code libraries, which can handle sprites, sound and console output. The problem with the sprite library is that it is a heavily modified version of the one used in the book Learning XNA 4.0. Am i still allowed to use it?

The rules are pretty clear.

Yes, and Learning XNA 4.0 has open-source (ish) code, so it should be fine as long as the copyright notices are left (and you say that it’s from XNA 4.0 in the blog post)

So in this case, does Backplague need to post a link to the libraries he’s thinking of using BEFORE the competition starts? Can he link to a personal website where the code might be shared?

Absolutely. If no person website is available, a link to a public code repository , or even a dropbox link (which is what I currently use will work). The idea is just that we have a level playing field. If you are going to use common base code it’s sporting to allow others to use the same code if they choose.

My personal library i will be using

(Note: changed my name from Backplague to Spanfile to reflect the nickname i use in the README)

Here is a Dropbox link to my personal code library. Remember to read the README inside!

About “solo only”

Is it okay that my friend helps me come up with the idea for the game but I and only I will do the rest? Last time I wanted to join, I could not come up with anything for the theme given.

I’m sure it’s fine, as long as all the content of the game is yours.

Unfortunate time of start

LD officially starts at 05:00 Saturday morning here in Finland 😀 I am going to need some drinks to keep me awake. Does anyone else have unfortunate start times?

Updated code library

I noticed i released an outdated version of my code library, so here is the up-to-date version. Remember to read the README!

Only 35 minutes left!

I just woke from a good sleep, ready to begin creating! Yesterday our family got a new 60″ plasma TV, so i conquered our living room for the weekend. Ahh, the wait is killing me. I better eat something before beginning.

I shall join

Second LD, exciting :) I will see if I manage to use MonoGame, otherwise it’s still XNA :/

Since listing all the tools you will use is a trend here, here they be.

MonoGame/XNA as a base for the game

– Parts of my personal library for ease of coding.

Paint.NET for graphics

BFXR/SFXR for sound effects

Coke. Lots.

As again, the theme will be announced at 4 AM in the Saturday morning, which is why my timezone sucks for that. Need sleep. Or I could just be awake until the theme release and then sleep, which may cause me to lose valuable hours.

This time I will be streaming the whole coding, username Spanfile on Twitch.

Thank you, and may the LD be ever in your favor.

Yeah, Cocaine!

Care to come for a quick review?

This is my second LD, and first LD I will be livestreaming. If you could come see me in the stream and tell me how the image quality is, is there any lag, and so forth, how the facecam looks, I would be really happy :)

Note; I am playing music but not very loud. Mostly electronic. If you dislike it, you can always mute the stream. I may change it to personal only, so no music will be in the stream.

See you there :)

Third time it is :)

My first LD was the 26th, I finished a game called Pixel Storm. I did try to make something for LD27, but Unity failed me. This time, I will be using SFML.NET, C#. And soda. Lots and lots of soda. Too bad I have exams the week after, but eh, I can study for some time.
