LD22

I’m in! ai-class pros and cons…

I’m not going to let the fact that Ludum Dare is the same weekend as the finals for the Stanford Engineering online artificial intelligence class stop me from having a go! I’ll just count taking the final exam as a “break”.

Last time I got so distracted by watching other people’s livestreams that my game never escaped my mind. This time it will be different!

  • Code / Language: Java? Flash? HTML5?
  • Library / API: Slick? Spaceport.io? Google play?
  • Graphics: Paint.net
  • Platform: Computer? Web?
  • SFX: bfxr!
  • Music: This is getting complicated…

It’s the same weekend, huh? Oh well. The midterm was pretty easy anyway and it probably doesn’t overlap completely. What do you think of the class?

It’s so awesome to find other people taking the Stanford AI Class on LD. 😀

Let’s just hope the final isn’t that long – it’s supposed to be about as long as the midterm, right? 30 mins of actual solving, two hours of checking the results, hehe.

Protlofio

I’ve been working on a new Portfolio site at bastiandantilus.com instead of creating a warm-up game. Currently it only has two very basic flash arcade games and one shockwave puzzle game. I need to make something I can be a bit more proud of for LD22, which makes me a bit more committed to making a web-based game.

Haha, protlofio.

Fomented

The juices have bubbled and churned over the course of dinner and dessert, and some notes have been scribbled, crossed out, and scribbled again. If this sounds like your progress so far in Ludum Dare 22, you are not alone!

At the moment I’m thinking of doing a growing up sim / action adventure hybrid, sort of My Pet Protector meets LoZ, but without the caretaker (since you are alone). Some ideas flying on the blogroll seem similar, so I’ll have to find some my own originality somewhere. I have ideas about how to make it fun and exciting, but so far no code has hit the editor. In fact I’m still not 100% sure of my platform, still divided between Flash, HTML5, and Java.

Nevertheless, I feel like I have at least somewhere to start when I wake in the morning. Until then, goodnight Ludumites.

Morte d’Post

In the end I spent too much time researching possible engines and didn’t get anything finished. A lot of time was wasted trying to figure out how to make Slick2d work in an applet. But really I didn’t have a game to applet…ize.

Game Name: Kitten Alone

Language: Java

Libraries: LWJGL, Slick2d, MarteEngine

Completion: 10%

I ran out of time leading up to the event to do the kind of self-education that would have made this possible. My current plan is to continue working on the game (and changing the title…) so next event I’ll have a better idea what I’m doing. And if for some reason my Java skills aren’t up to snuff by the next Jam, I may need to make the next entry in Basic. Or ActionScript 2.

22 times you’ve done me wrong, but twenty-three’s a different song

I’m in! Let’s make something quick and fun, and polish if there’s time.

Tools you say? How about Stencyl? Ah, you like that? Okay, let’s throw PyxelEdit in there too. Still with me? Well, if I get something playable, then I’ll throw in some Bfxr work with your paid donation. And what’s this Otomata thing I’ve been hearing about?

Screenshot of a jumping caveman

Here’s what I have so far, this will probably be the win condition.

The planetoid is probably going to stay, graphically speaking. The caveman, less likely (from an open source sprite library).

Target name: Accretion. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?

Nice idea, what did you code it in?

Will you develop it futher.

So I’m In Probably?

I’m inspired by the theme, and my HTML5 skills are growing daily. I have some new tricks that I’m ready to unleash! So I’ll probably hit this compo with some HTML5 and prototype.js (not usually a library man but my time will be limited this LD).

I’m in! Maybe.

LD25

Bastiandantilus is in

Last time I entered I used Stencyl and it ended up feeling like a bit of a cheat. This time I think I’ll be using HTML5/JS.

Unless someone has a good suggestion for a JS game library that actually makes things easier instead of just more confusing, I’ll probably go vanilla.

I’m In My New Shirt

I'm In

I’m In

Ludum Dare 26 is here and so are my new shirts! I’m in for LD26 (and in my new shirt).

I’m most likely going to use “base code” from the GRITS engine, but either way I’m going to be creating an HTML5/JS Canvas Game.
