I’m in!

First time ludum dare and I’m pretty excited! Been lurking for a while but couldn’t make anything due to important life stuff.

A Little About Me: I generally gravitate towards 2D platformers when making games. I usually make games that are pretty difficult and people tend to rage quit a lot I do this because I am amused by others misfortunes. But I think I’ll mix it up a bit and make something not so frustrating. I tend to focus mainly on gameplay rather than graphics and sound. My game’s usually lack polish and that’ll probably be my downfall, but I hope to correct some of my faults with this competition!

Well that’s enough about me!

>I’ll be using Game Maker 8.0 and/or 8.1 because it’s easy to code.

>Gliffy,  pen + paper,  and notepad for design.

>Sfxr for sound.

>I guess I’ll use Notessimo , Wolfram and/or Aviary for music depending on what type of style I’m going for.

>Graphic’s Gale,  GIMP, Adobe Fireworks, and/or Paint for graphics depending on what type of style I’m going for.

I’m quite new so I don’t know the rules quite well but is stuff like time lapses required?

Anyways, good luck to everyone!

Hi, I’m a first timer also but from what I’ve read time lapses aren’t required but there is a section in the voting called Community I think that would be how much you shared during the dare. It seems the people that do time lapses get good community scores but I plan on making up for it with lots of blog posts, maybe that works too…

you shouldn’t use Wolfram tunes. I know the site is really cool, but all content generated there belongs to (is copyrighted to) Wolfram tunes, and cannot be legally distributed by you without their authorization. :-(

“Game can’t even handle me right now”

I feel like I’m walking into fight cause I have no idea what I’m doing or what I’m up against. My game just keeps throwing me more and more things that need to be done. Probably shouldn’t have spent so much time on unnecessary things….

For some reason now I have: 17 races, 45 weapon types, and 40+ armor types. And MOST of them were NOT part of my design >.>

Buildings, classes and abilities still left!  x.x

…Also core gameplay elements. Everything else is pretty top notch, except magic damage calculations. Will fix this though, when abilities are made.

graphics are meh but this is the best they’ll get…

Currently dual-wielding a cross-bow and blade. Both attack independently at their own ranges & speeds. Did 25 damage to enemy! Yay!

Rogue weapons (dagger, claws, katar) are imba currently. Probably won’t change them, so that’s a “secret” for you readers who want an advantage over everyone else!

The Good

-I only had to sacrifice a left arm for the graphics. Sure, my keyboard was really bloody and It was hard to tell the keys apart, but luckily I had a copy of Typing Tutor 12 in my closet. Typing Tutor has become a key tool I use to develope games.

-I feel the mechainics were very ‘organic’. They were loosly based on things I saw nearby during development. This one guy out side my window was pushing this wooden crate, someone was pushing a button to open a garage door, and this one guy was trying to hang himself from his balcony but got teleported back into his house 10 seconds later. You know what they say, art mimics life.

The Bad

-Gossip Girl was on TV and you know that’s my jam so I had to watch that so I didn’t get much time to make levels so I had to code a complex level generator to create 5 levels for me to use in the game

-Originally there was going to be chain physics I spent a good 10 hours making it so the chain felt realistic and not plastic but then I was like ‘Fuck Gravity’ and the chain fell through the floor and I haven’t seen it since
