Ludum Dare 50

First Gamejam, worked for nearly 60 hours

First gamejam for us, and we put nearly 60 hours in it. Yesterday, we went on till 5 AM CEST. Loved every second of it, but man so tired now.

Today I'm gonna play some games and see what others have come up with. Have a look at our game as well. Thanks for the great event!

Built an editor, where did the time go?

For our game, Shadow Rush, we also built an editor. And honestly, the editor went a bit out of hand. Our artist made it entirely by himself and it looks absolutely amazing. It definitely took a lot of time, especially the "loading the map into unity" part, but it helped us when we had to design the maps.

The editor is online, you can check it out at https://shadow.jossafossa.nl/

In the bottom right you'll get a string, which you can paste into the game's import screen!

Happy playing (with all games, not just ours)

The following weekend - Bugfix time

Hi all, hope you had a fine week! Time for a little update on our game Shadow Rush.

After having received some super helpful comments from a lot of you (and also after discovering some on our own), we decided we could fix some minor bugs that were bugging us (ha (sorry)). The main goal of the bug fixes were to make the game flow a little better. Fixing things like menus not popping up where they should, or sometimes randomly losing controller focus forcing you to grab the mouse in order to continue.

One important change is the fact that we added a WebGL build. So, have fun playing!

The exact changes we added are below: - Controller support for pause/start menus fixed - Added WebGL build - Custom Level fixed such that it does not save high score for different levels anymore - Fixed a bug where pause screen could go over death screen - Fixed a bug where opening the start screen during timer countdown would already start the level - Changed sound levels such that the sounds are less annoying - Fixed a bug where driving no laps would result in MaxLong value high scores - Fixed weird behaviour of the tutorial level where sometimes the death screen would not show up - Fixed wrong text showing on some level intros

Phew, it's quite late.

Finally fixed the final little bugs and grievances we had. Unfortunately still didn't get the WebGL build working, but oh well. That'll come later.

For now though, you can download our game and discover the story of peter and friends. Have a look! Here it is: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/peter-os

Looking forward to playing lots of your games this week :v:

How to scope your game?

This time around we did something completely new for our game Peter OS. We decided to make a game completely in UI, while none of us really have any serious UI experience. This eventually extended to having to write an entire mobile phone OS.

So we ended up thinking of something that had a little too big of a scope. Which meant we had to cut down a little bit on the eventual story we wanted to write. Oh well, Learned a lot from it.

How do you scope your game? How do you keep it simple enough for a game jam, yet at the same time interesting. I would love to hear from you all.

Can you discover everything about Peter's life?

In our game Peter OS you get to live as Peter, who has an active social life. Yet his phone is old and on the verge of crashing. Every 10 seconds he gets some kind of notification, but his RAM is filled up when he gets 10 of them. If you don't handle notifications well, then they might spam you even more.

Come play our game and leave yours below, so I can play them later tonight!

Peter OS - Phone is life and its about to crash

Peter spends his days browsing his phone (installed with Peter OS), talking to needy friends, curating meats and clicking on eggs. All the while managing his RAM every 10 seconds lest his phone crashes.

Sell me your game in snappy one-liners or short paragraphs.

72 hours is too short

Don't get me wrong, it's great to have a clear deadline. I love it.

But today I felt like I just wanted to continue working on it. So many things could be added and so many bugs need fixing! You'll see in Peter OS. Maybe we'll make it into a full game. Anyone any suggestions?

Many first-timers

Glad to see that there are many first-timers for the gamejam. I wonder how many people have joined in total. Is that visible anywhere?

This was our second time competing and I feel like we (as a team) got much better at making a game (Peter OS) in such a short time span. Can't wait till next year.

Day 2 of playing video games

Day 2 of playing cool and interesting video games. Ain't life just great?

Check out our game Peter OS and drop yours below so I can play them.

Happy playing/rating today!

Did you manage to find all working apps?

In our game Peter OS many apps that are installed on Peter's crappy old phone tend to crash (it's a feature, not a bug!). However, there are some apps that do work. Did you manage to find them all?

For instance, did you find the idle clicker egg game?

Did you see our custom made Netflix show posters?

Did you find Noodle Meat (the meat curation app)?

Did you unlock the three snapcats (pixelart pictures) through the SMS messaging app?

Happy hunting for the easter eggs, there are more in our game. ;)

Advertising your game

I love building a game. I love it when people play our game. I love playing other people's games here. I don't love the advertising bit where I have to bring players to our game.

But I do it diligently.

Play our game Peter OS!

Marked Improvement

This is the second time we participated in a gamejam. And honestly, it felt like a marked improvement from the first time around. Feel a little proud this time around of our game Peter OS.

Then looking at many other games that have been submitted, they are absolutely great. Maybe games are just getting better all around. ;)

We heard you

We fixed a major annoying bug that turned the game unplayable about 50% of the times. We fixed that! If you wanna check out the game how it was meant to be played, have a look at Peter OS new and refined.

Still more bugfixes coming though. Three days is way too short sometimes.

Full Game Incoming

Hi all!

This time around we wanted to focus on two aspects we never really did before, UI and Storywriting. We had so much fun doing it, that we decided to continue working on it to create a full game out of it. Something where the story can really shine.

So, any feedback you give on our game Peter OS is highly appreciated as it will likely affect our eventual game!

Fixed All Bugs!

Alright, that's a bit of an overstatement. There are still some bugs in our game Peter OS. However, we fixed the major bugs that made the game either unfair or unplayable.

Thanks for all the feedback that helped us track down these pesky little bugs!

Time to rescue some games

Today I'm gonna spend some time rescuing games that nearly have twenty votes. For those that don't know you can sort on 'Rescue' under games in order to get the games that are almost there. They need the votes most.

This time around our game Peter OS got the votes really quick, which is great. Now to respond in kind and help out others. Happy playing today!

All feedback is welcome

We would love to get as much (critical) feedback on our game Peter SO as possible. This would help us out immensely for next time :)

Two weeks is so long

I wanna know what arbitrary numerical value people put on our game Peter OS. It's the only important thing in life right now.
