Wheeee

Matching a target shape with boxes of the appropriate color (in this case, pink) causes the boxes to solidify and become unpushable. You'll have to be careful how you put the boxes together, so you don't run out of space! ;)

Went to eat dinner, then came back and implemented this little status bar that shows which shapes you're trying to make.
It doesn't look so good compressed to a 256-color GIF, though. ;P

Well, we can complete a level now. So that's nice.

I have 11 puzzles so far! Pictured: me failing to solve level 11.

Implemented shapes with diagonals! Also you can see me writing some "end of game" flavor text up there in the corner. :P
I'd like to get 20 levels done in time for compo deadline (I've got 15 so far), but we'll see?? I still have to write the main game music, too, and make a title screen...

Petra is released!
This was my first Ludum Dare, and I'm proud I got everything done in 48 hours! I have to get on a plane later, so I'm releasing it a bit early.
My brain hurts after coming up with so many puzzles, though. :O

(And thanks to everyone who's already looked at it and left a comment! You guys are great!)

Super happy to end up in top 25 overall for my first LD! However, most of those individual category scores could probably use some work.
In particular, I know my graphics could be improved -- they're kind of basic. Maybe I'll try using more than two colors per tile next time. :stuckouttongue:
Additionally, while my initial idea was inspired by the theme, the game kind of diverged in implementation, and the theme didn't really shine through as I'd hoped it would.
Lastly, it's not super innovative -- while I'm proud of most of my puzzle designs, and I think the specific concept of the game is something that hasn't been explored before, the general "block-pushing puzzle" category is probably pretty saturated at this point, hah.
Overall though these are really good results -- better than I was expecting! So I'm pretty proud of myself but I'm also glad to have some clear room for improvement.
Hope to see you all next time!
Making a grid puzzle game again, because I like designing puzzles. I also find this kind of game logic easier to reason about -- hence less opportunity for bugs. ;)
Going for a sort of vague "old PC puzzle game" aesthetic here, using the old Windows 16-color palette. Hope it comes across!
(the mechanics are theme-relevant, I promise!)

When a pawn and an 'anti-pawn' collide, they annihilate each other with a little puff of smoke.

In order to have a little tutorial, I implemented some fun text boxes that appear before certain levels. (The Feynman diagram is just for flavor.)

A puzzle game featuring probably-incorrect applications of quantum mechanics concepts!
Pretty happy with how this one turned out, considering I was pretty busy this weekend. Now, time to catch up on lost sleep... :O

This is definitely the most effort I've ever put into animations for a game jam game!
We'll see if I can actually finish this one since I'm getting vaccinated later today... I might just enter the 72-hour competition instead, haha.

We can destroy blocks now! Kinda cool.

I just love putting pushable boxes in things, idk lol
