Ludum Dare 48

Just Realized How on Theme This Is

I am now 4 layers deep into arrays of arrays of arrays. The first two were the tiles of a level. Then its the layers of that level for the 'deeper' mechanic. Finally I now have a list of all the levels. So even my development goes deeper and deeper.

Day 2 Comes to a Close

Here is a short clip of our progress so far. We are making a game about going deeper and deeper into layers of a puzzle. When moving the character on a level all the deeper layers will move with it. The puzzle mechanics sounds good in theory and tomorrow we will put them into practice. xV8HJ7AD1Z.gif

Looking To Rate Some HTML Games

Anyone looking for feedback add your link in the comments. I would like html games as downloads are a little cumbersome for my low storage. Thank you! And while you are at it check out my game if you would like.

Paste the link I'm the comments if you have a browser game you want played. I'll play through them all if it's not too much!

Just Hit 20!

We have surpassed twenty but we want to push it to 40 to exceed the number of ratings of our last game. If you would like to help with that the link is: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/implosion

Just Hit 20!

We have surpassed twenty ratings but now we have a new goal. Our last game was really bad and we want this one to get more ratings. It had received 34 so we have a little ways left to go. If you would like to help in our push the link is: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/implosion

Ludum Dare 51

We're in!

Various members and contributors for Or-Bit Studios are all working together for another Ludum Dare. This is the first time me and my co founder will spend the entire weekend with nothing but the Jam to work on. We are all really excited for another opportunity to make a game. The final round of themes is one of the better lists I have seen. Best of luck to everyone!

Every Ten Seconds...

Someone posts about the theme being bad. Wait another ten seconds for your turn.

Basic Story Concept

We started writing out story ideas. The final idea we have locked in is:

A series of families have agreed to settle a feud in a very unique way. Every 10 second sons that are born will duel each other until only one stands. That one will rule the lands until the next set of second sons comes around to make their claim. You are born as the 10th second son. This makes you the youngest when the fighting will begin when you're only 17. Will you reclaim your family's glory? Or will you fall to another hopeful in that dark arena?

It is somewhat absurd but I do like the misinterpreting of the theme. We always say we will make a story centric game in the jam but never seem to actually accomplish that goal. This time will hopefully be different and its why we started with story.

Day One is Almost Over

We finished most the basic systems and have a good plan. I spoke about our story in an earlier post (tldr: 10 second sons have to duel for power). Now we have made a list of enemy ideas and began making plans for implementing them. We have added dialogue, movement, and setup implementation for animations. Then we will be starting into the actual combat. Since your character is weak he can only win by a technicality. When your opponents leave the arena for 10 seconds they have to forfeit the match. Next time I'll be back with some content. For now we rest up for the most important day.

Saturday Morning Update

Going to start into combat this morning. Here is a gif of the progress from Friday. Our game is about a dueling tournament between 10 second sons.Unity_bDRLGHdeRC.gif

Progress on the Gameplay

We are rolling with our duel of every ten second sons idea. Here the tenth second son is fighting Nocturne Ashblood, a necromancer from the north. Still lacking on art but the gameplay is coming along nicely. Here is a preview of the fight. He summons skeletons that throw bones at you. I'm really happy with the progress on the parry, dash, and dodging.

End of Day 2

We completed all the basic combat systems. There is now 2 and a half bosses. The half is a boss with stage one completed but for stage two we need to add more dialogue features which is the focus of tomorrow for me. Our character artists is going to have a lot to do. If we can get all the art done this will be coming along great!

Day Three? Already

Here's footage from the tutorial boss. Day Three! Now we have to get our artists on finishing up the characters and all the animations. Hopefully we have enough time to get through it all. This morning I am hoping to go back and finish up the second and fourth fight with Brutus Skullhammer and Robell Raginmar. By the afternoon we should be almost done programming wise so that I can spend Monday helping with polish and animations.

How do I get higher quality gifs?

I am using sharex to record my gifs but they have to be 4fps to get just 5 seconds of footage. Otherwise it is over the 4 mb max and I cannot upload it. What softwares do you all use for uploading gifs? I've noticed at least a few that are several seconds long with way higher fps than mine.

Wow Compo is Already Over

Can't wait to see what all the compo jammers were able to accomplish! We are done with the final boss of our game and now I have to go and implement the story mechanics. Our artists are chugging away and are getting close on art.

Well we are a bit late

The game was running in editor and nothing was changed since monday but it would not build functionally. Turns out the music would not run right with the settings I picked and the project settings were compressing everything too much. Sorry for the inconvenience but please feel free to check out The Tenth Second Son. You can also download the game as the windows version built no problem.

Did this disqualify us from the jam?

We had a bug that caused our game to not work on the webgl version. The windows version was working and eventually on Wednesday I got the webgl version working. When I went to update our page the files did not upload correctly and I was immediately changed to being listed as unfinished. Did that disqualify our game? I was really hoping to get feedback and I assumed I could upload a working webgl version that more people would play after the fact.

Might be a dumb question

I do not use twitter very often, but I was told to contact Mike Kasprzak through twitter. It says I cannot dm him for some reason. How should I go about contacting him? I really need to get this fixed my game is still listed as unfinished. If you want the context on why that is, see my previous post.

PS I did send him an email earlier this week but did not receive a response.
