Ludum Dare 50

LD50: My first game jam ever!

Hi! I'm super new to game jams, and only slightly less new to gamedev as a whole. I've made a few small projects for friends' birthdays over the past year, but otherwise I've only made a small demo of a 2D platformer.

I'm hoping entering an event like this will provide me an opportunity to personally connect with the community a bit more, as well as hone my ability to make something that works in such a small time frame. I'm not looking to revolutionize the gaming landscape obviously, just to make something relatively functional.

I am fully prepared to fail on all accounts, but I am still incredibly excited to take whatever path leads me to that failure. And if I end up with something I like, then that's a cool surprise too!

Engine: Gamemaker Studio 2

Art: Aseprite, Clip Studio Paint

SFX: Chiptone and just recording

Music: My friend seabats and FreeMusicArchive (I have no clue about music theory.)

So I noticed it's pretty common practice to make a blog post about your finished entry, and I've yet to do that.

Mama is a high-score-based game where you play as a baby dragon desperately trying to keep your mother alive by feeding her the crystals you find in the forest.

Unfortunately for you, the forest has a strange energy about it and seems to be doing everything in its ability to keep you from your goal.

Play now to see how long you can keep Mama alive! Available in the browser and as a Windows download.

Try Cat Blaster!!

This is Cat Blaster!

Cat Blaster is a really short (around 5 minutes) 2D platformer, where you play as a cat who can fire shots from its paw. I forgot to give it a gun!

Every 10 seconds you can fire a huge, killing shot that wipes out anything in its path. So you aren't completely helpless before that timer hits 0, you can also fire a small shot to stun enemies whenever you want.

Give it a go if you have a little extra time!

I commissioned the amazing artist Lorim/fishbats to make a new cover image for my game, and I think it turned out incredible! If you're interested in getting quality art with a quick turnaround, consider commissioning them too.

Even though I paid for it, it feels amazing to see an actually good artist interpret something I made into their style. I wonder if this is how Toby Fox feels every time someone draws a new Sans AU.

unemployed and ready to party

I'm very excited to do Ludum Dare this weekend! I recently had to leave my job and it's led to the most productive streak I've had in years. I'm hoping I can make something I'm proud of this time around with the extra time I have.
