Chocolat-Endive

LD 42

The Chocolat-Endive team is ready !

We're ready for our first Ludum Dare! So, we're a two person team : * The almighty Bouteille is specialised into code and graphics * Zhao (me) is going to make some music, help with game design, and some graphic things.

Here are our battlestations.

Bouteille's: bouteille.JPG

And mine: zhao.JPG

We're going to use : * Godot engine (it seems to be a great little thing) * Blender and Magicavoxel for 3d (if we make some 3d stuff) * Krita and Gimp for 2d * Qtractor and some vst & soundfonts for music (and maybe a gameboy with nanoloop) * Brains if we have enough coffee

We'll probably use some other little things (for sound effects, or creating fonts, for example).

I'm pretty sure it's going to be really fun!

We're ready !

And we have a whiteboard ! whiteboard.JPG

(and an atari st)

Great theme !

We have our concept, and we're pretty happy with it!

I have to work tomorrow morning  so we're going to sleep soon.

Bouteille will start to make some magical godot voodoo during the morning, and I hope we'll be able to show off something during the afternoon!

Have a good night, I hope everybody will enjoy this week-end!

Controls are working !

It has been quite difficult, but it works perfectly ! (and my gif is horrible, we can't see anything, sorry)

We need space and pastas !

Because we're out of space:

But we have pastas:

You can see that the little volca keys is turned on. I'm working with this mini cute synth for the soundtrack.

End of day 1

It's our first Ludum Dare, and it's really cool to participate to this event. We still have a lot of work to do, but it has been a good start, I think.

Godot_v3 2018-08-12 00-05-15-27.jpg

We have most of the core mechanics. One song for the soundtrack is ready (there will be more), some part of the graphics are done, controls are mostly ok.

You can see a little video here: https://youtu.be/IESytJWMaT8

Day 1.5

Ludum Dare is HARD. Well, it's fun too. Ok, so today, we ate things: DSC_2952.JPG

And, more important, the sun is glowing, we have A LOT of colors, and we're running out of space. So we have to run out of space, because it's dangerous to be running out of space when you're in space, you know.

Our first level is playable

We need some assets, such as cockpit, sounds, and more variations for the planets textures. But the proof of concept works: it's fun to play! (I think)

I'm pretty happy of the progress we've made so far. (sorry for the crappy quality of the video)

End of day 2

I'm pretty happy with the progress we've made. Bouteille has done a wonderful job with the collision detections, UI and sound implementation. I was hoping we would be able to implement control change today, but it will for tomorrow.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r7wRBoEPlM

For tomorrow: - Option menu with control change - Intro / outro / game over - some assets (a cockpit, more sounds, more different planets, etc.)

And if we have some time left, one or two more levels.

Day 2.5

It's starting to look like a video game!

So now we have more sound and graphical assets. Look at this amazing cockpit made by Bouteille! Godot_cockpit.png

The menu with control changing options is now working: Godot_menu.png

And we ate some pastas with zucchini: DSC_2959.JPG

So far our first LDjam is a success. It's the third time we try to make a little game, and it's cool to see we manage to create something.

We did it !

I'm so happy, and quite tired. I hope you'll enjoy it: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/$104311

Ludum Dare 45

The Chocolat-Endive team is back!

I think it's time for us to say hello!

So, we're in for this Ludum Dare. I present you the Chocolat-Endive team:

  • The almighty Bouteille is specialised into code and graphics
  • Zhao (me), ready to make some music, help with game design, and some graphic things.

Our battlestations are ready and fully operational. Here is mine: 001.jpg

And Bouteille’s: 002.jpg

We're going to use : * Godot engine (it's a great little thing) * Blender and Magicavoxel for 3d (if we make some 3d stuff) * Krita and Gimp for 2d * Qtractor or Reaper and Audacity for recording on computer, and maybe some VSTs. * Brains if we have enough coffee

We'll probably use some other little things (for sound effects, or creating fonts, for example).

I'm pretty happy with my music setup: 003.JPG

What do we have here? * Nanoloop mono on gameboy * Three Korg volcas (fm, keys and bass) * An Aodyo Sylphyo (a super fun breath-midi-controller-electronic-flute-synth-thing) * A Yamaha QY-8, a cheap but cool portable midi sequencer * A Yamaha pss-470 synth, it has an adlib/OPL2 chip, I love it. * A Korg monotron delay it's cheap and has a dirty sound but it's fun to use * A bunch of pedals (delay, multiple reverb, chorus and some supid thing like a vocaloid pedal) * It will be all recorded on the Yamaha MD8, a multitrack recorder.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be really fun!

Good luck everybody, I can't wait to start this ludum dare!

We've got our idea!

I don't think it will be an original interpretation of the theme, but I hope the game will be cool!

For us, it's time to go to sleep.

Tomorrow, we'll try to implement base function of the game and make some sound design. Sound will be important for our project.

I can't wait to show you some little things.

Day 0.5

Ok, so we have done some progress. Nothing to "show" for the moment.

After brainstorming 45 minutes and making decisions about the game we slept. So, this morning, here is what we have done:

  • My musical setup with midi synchronisation for triggering tracks and events during the game is working and I've started to write one of the song.
  • Some code is being written by the almighty Bouteille and we should have enough thing to start some level design this evening.

And, of course, the first lunch:

More news soon!

Hope you all have fun!

Day 0.75

We've made quite a lot of progress this afternoon. Bouteille's code works well. Scenario and sound design are in the way.

We should be able to show a video in the end of the evening. It will not reflect what the game will be, but you'll be able to hear some of the music I've made.

Time to eat something! DSC_3073.JPG

Tomorrow we'll work on graphics and level design. And how to implement the music in an intersting way.

Hope you all have fun. (I love this event)

End of day 1

I know this video does not look really cool. But there is a lot of invisible stuff happening in the code. (the music in the video will be part of the game)

https://youtu.be/yvj9N8kpGXU

I'm really happy about what we have done today!

Almost end of day 2.

We should soon be able to play a part of our game!

We've struggled with a couple of things, some code was not willing to be working, we had to cut some features because we won't have enough time but hey, that's ludum dare fun.

So know we have almost everything except graphic assets and lvl design. While I'm typing this, Bouteille is working on it.

I can share you this video with a part of the landscape of the first lvl of the game (there should be two if we have enough time). I'm really happy with the music, I hope you'll enjoy it:

And of course, the lunch: lunch.JPG

And the dinner: dinner.JPG

Hope you all have fun. Good luck for everybody that participate in the compo.

Ludum Dare 46

Once upon a time... WE DID IT

We're really happy to introduce our entry for this LDJAM. It's been hard, but we managed to finish it in time. And the game should be quite stable (our last one was not really finished and was really bugged).

This time we went for something quite different, no fancy graphics, a calm mood and a longer game.

So, here it is!

Hope you'll enjoy it, and we can't wait to try your games!
