Ludum Dare 48

Can't Believe How Far We've Come

What a jump from our last game to our current. I still haven't mastered blender so we are a bit reliant on asset packs from the community, but outside of that; from coding, to animation style, to level design my team has jumped lightyears beyond where we were six months ago.

LudumDare47 was our first ever game jam together and after a pretty decent result, for our standards, a fire was lit under us to do even better when 48 came around. With all of the progress we have seen in our skills we can't wait for 49.

A huge thanks from me to @Dandala88, @DankFudge, and @belgianwizard our newest team member coming in with those sweet tunes.

Here is to two down and many more to come!

Can't Believe It's Almost Over (A post mortem before scoring comes in)

It has been a ton of fun rating games and getting comments. This second LudumDare was a real adventure. Me and my team went through and created something we could be way more proud of than our first go around. Not to mention we met someone new and they created an awesome sound track for our decent game. We didn't deserve the boost, but it was a welcome surprise. I hope you had fun with us @belgianwizard.

From the beginning I had a few ideas that we might go with and after talking it over we agreed on an idea and got to work. My 3D skills are still pretty new so I didn't feel ready to jump right in and make my own assets. Instead I looked for some decent ones through a variety of market places, finally I landed on the space pack from Synty. It had everything we absolutely needed letting me get started on the IK rigging and environment construction right away. I still have a lot to learn on both fronts, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Next time I think I'll focus on the environment first and then turn to the character after. Sinking a lot of time into figuring out IK rigging better ate up a lot of time. Instead I wish I focused on the finer details of the environment like where we wanted our turrets and how we wanted our bullets to look.

The pandemic certainly had a lot of effects this year, most of them not so convenient. We saw this full force when @dandala88 ended up getting his second shot half way through the JAM taking him out of commission for at least half a day. This put a damper on things, but we pushed forward. Like a real trooper he pushed through and kept working until he had to give in and take a rest. After the effects wore off he came back with his efforts redoubled.

He jumped back in fixing issues and pushing til the launch! Then on top of that coming back at it and updating so people could play in browser was awesome.

@dankfudge from the beginning pushed his ideas through to functionality at a breakneck speed. He was able to get the basic functionality working for our turrets and bullets.

We really appreciated everyone that came in and rated our game, and anyone that decides to here in the last few hours. I wish I could add more details, but I'm about out of space. I'll keep thinking on this and add details in another post later.

Ludum Dare 52

Turmsoil

After having a wedding conflict with LD 50 and then not finishing LD 51 it feels good to have a submission for LD 52 with the January Jam, feels kinda funny since I've never done a January one before, but we took this one pretty casually and it felt good.

Our game is pretty fun when you get a few people going together so feel free to share with your friends and see who is the best as hoeing lol.
