First tiny steps...

Skeleton parser written, I can now animate fighters ingame!

After spending waay too much time debugging my skeleton keyframe animator code I've finally at least got something on screen... Now I just have to finish implementing the actual THEME feature which was the whole point of this coding exercise..

Well at least I think I am... I'm off to a 8 hour concert follow by sleep.. Which leaves me with way too little time to actually make something decent by the end of tomorrow..
Here's a picture of Alcindor on his quest.

So I'm in... and I have an idea that at least vaguely matches the theme right now :-)
But at least something is on screen again..

Finally done for now... https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/of-the-dark
I'll probably upload a video to YouTube as well.
But right now I just want to wish you all good luck in the compo and cheers!

So I think I have an idea that might work with the theme :-) Weapons of choice will probably be SFML library with Visual Studio 2019 as usual.
We'll the engine is up and running and at least some of the graphics is done.. Now I just have to fix all the crazy bugs and make the game playable...

Got up relatively early and fixed some bugs..
I keep forgetting how long it takes to animate stuff, especially voxels..

One day I'll participate in Ludum Dare and have time to spare, hang around and chat and stuff... but not this time...
May I present the title screen!

Wow that was a lot of work.
I've got to stop writing game engines from scratch each time, and I keep underestimating how time consuming it is to create music and graphics for these games...
But it's done!
Behold Beet Roots:

One of the rules of making a game in 48 hours is "never, ever, use an unfamiliar toolset". So what did I do? I've chosen to try building my game with Haxe, heap (for 2d graphics) and echo (for the physics).
After some majors setbacks due to me not checking properly what heap.io is actually capable of doing I've finally got something up and running.
It isn't pretty. But required code pieces are in place and I'm ready to continue with LD48!

I'm sooo tired. Suprisingly so actually but the game is actually feature complete now, at least from a code perspective. Now I "just" need to add * The actual levels * The actual graphics * The actual sound effects * The music!
and pray that I don't find any breaking bugs...

Probably going to have to call it a night soon.. and hope I'll be able to complete it tomorrow.
That's it I can't muster the energy to make more than 1 level for my game even though there's still 4 hours left of the compo.
I've seen a lot of nice entries already so my games hardly a Ludum Dare compo winner, but anyways... here it is..

Be kind ;-) I haven't used haxe since 2014, things have changed a bit, to say the least..
So I finally decided that the idea I had might be worth pursuing.
It's hardly going to impress anyone but I think I might have some fun making it..

Tried something new today, new tools new setup, exactly what you shouldn't do when making a game in 48 hours.. But I've finally got most of the mechanics in place. It's probably not going to be a lot of fun to play but when has that stopped me :smirk:
Here's an in progress image om my game codenamed UNSTOPPABLE!

I don't know who benefits from the 12:00 AM CEST start time but it isn't old farts like me living in Europe. With the 3AM start time I at least only loose 4 hours if I get up at 7AM om Saturday...
Well with that rant out the way.. I've figure out an idea... Not really the best of ideas but something I really want to try out.. So.. I'm in!

I had forgotten why I really hated using Emscripten with C++ for LD51 and just thought it would be practical, you know, with the whole new embedding thing.. I can't get debugging to work so all the debugging has to be done using printf statements... Talk about severely slowing my progress to a crawl.. But some silliness has prevailed

Finally put together an idea that might be simple enough. So I'm in.. but we'll see...

Due to "reasons" I've had less than 8 hours to spend on my game so far.. Hopefully I'll get something done tomorrow...
