The journey starts somewhere around here!

First attempt at a Ludum Dare!

Most probably the toolset will be:

Language and compiler: C++ and Visual Studio 2010

Engine: SFML

Content: bfxr, Audacity, some tracker if there’s time for music, and GIMP

So.. real life is about to interrupt… this is the current status

Living in Sweden and participating in Ludum Dare, involves (among many options) to either staying up during the night or stressing out the minute you wake up in the morning and throwing yourself over your computer to find out the theme…

I choose the latter :-) and now “real life” is about to interfere yet again.

Hopefully I’ll find time to finish the game tomorrow, but I’d thought I’d share my progress so far: (the link is to a youtube video of the game)

Ludum Dare game preview 1

It is done.

There we go! Game submitted:

Here’s a video of the gameplay:

As a first-timer, I must say this was a fun experience, but next time I’ll try and allocate more time than 12 hours to make my contribution…

Really looking forward to trying out all the other games!

LD25

I’m in!

Ludum Dare 25 here I come!

This theme has a lot of potential, unfortunately all the obvious one like “inverted”-missile-command or playing the ghosts in pac-man or the aliens in space invaders seem to have been taken :-)

So I think I’m going to do a puzzle game with a single-button interface where you play a bomb-releasing maniac intent on destroying the world!

Probably going to do it in Visual Studio 2012 express with SFML.

Real Life Interrupt Request

We’ll time for a break after only a few hours… Cutting it close this time. Hopefully I’ll have 6-7 hours to spend tomorrow as well to finish it off:

I’m in!

I’m in!

Later than ever and still haven’t figured out what I’m going to make…

I wanted to try out Unity this time, but I don’t think I’ll have the time, so the toolset this time will most likely be:

FlashDevelop with Haxe-NME,

bfxr for sound effects

and GIMP for graphics.

Sort of done…

Well I’m sort of done…

Just have to redo the music for like the billionth time…

Now I need some sleep…

Obligatory I’m in post, done!

10 seconds is a really good theme, almost a bit too good. :-)

Time to start filtering out the boring ideas.

Enter the arena

Progress is slow today. No code written and hardly any graphics done either, so basically I’ve been slacking too much :-)

BEHOLD THE ARENA:

LD28

Obligatory I’m in post!

“You only get one” is quite an open theme (I always prefer the more restricted themes), but I think I’ve figured out a nice game idea!

Can’t wait until I have some screenshots to show!

LD29

So I am in! How ever briefly…

So a couple of my friends have decided to show an interest in participating i Ludum Dare, so we’re getting to together for 13 hours on Saturday and hopefully we’ll have made a game each.

Just goes to show… You can’t really quit LD 😉

So my toolset of choice is most likely going to be:

Code:

FlashDevelop with Haxe/OpenFL targetting Flash

Sound:

Bfxr, Audacity and LMMS.

Graphics:

Sculptris and Gimp

and I’ll be developing on a 32-bit Windows 8.1 8″ tablet computer, so my eyes are probably going to hate me for this :-)

LD30

The obligatory I’m in post!

So… I have no idea what to do with this theme… “Connect Worlds”.

So this is what I do know.

* I want to make a game and I have less than 38 hours left to do it in.

* I want to write it in C++ using SDL 2

* I want it to be pixel-based. Not retro 8-bit pixelized, just pixels, not triangles, lines, sprites or texturemapped 3d stuff…

Here we go….

LD31

I’ve got 6 hours to make something… but I’m in!

Usually the main work load when making most of my Ludum Dare games is on the Saturday evening with some polishing and music handled on the 2nd day.

However, circumstances (sort of) beyond my control have shortened my time frame to a total of 6 hours this time….

But I’m in! I’ve got an idea that should be simple enough and I think I’m going to write the game in haxe and play around with compiling for html5 with webgl support.

Wish me luck!

LD32

Late as usual, but I’m in!

LD48 compo time!

So to take up the challenge and try something new I’m going to try to use Unity 5 to make a game this time.

All the other tools will remain the same I guess:

Blender, Wings3D, Milkshape 3D, Audacity, LMMS and Gimp….

I think I have an idea that’s simple enough, so it’s time to get started!

May I present our hero Ben T. Coil

The texturing needs work, and you’ll mostly only see his back during the game anyway.

I still haven’t figured out how to animate 3d gameobjects in Unity yet :-/

Time for some sleep…

Big day tomorrow…

I’ve got to fix the animationbugs, texturing issues, create the music, create the title screen and the instructions but most importantly I REALLY need to make a bunch of levels.

But all the base-mechanics are working now at least…

mcpreview

It’s morning and time to get a move on!

So a bunch of issues fixed, still haven’t created the real levels and I still have to make some music…

Well at least the title screen and instructions are done!
