Ludum Dare 46

We... Actually liked what we made?

Dear Diary:

So the moment the LDJam theme was announced the programmer and I (Gfx/Sfx) had gone for a walk for a hour to try and think of a idea, and we had some 'kind' of concept. Other than the small thematic details that were floating in the air- it was hard to actually picture what our game would be like. We are both pretty ambitious in our own ways so looking at it now, we had a 7 day project we wanted to do in 3 days.

Multiple Terrain types, More mobility options, Weapons, 5 baddies and a Boss. Of course by the end of it- We had one terrain type, One gun, 4 baddies, A barely finished map and a actually interesting gameplay mechanic added to our sort of escort A to B styled game.

But i think in the end the fact that a shield was added to the thing you were trying to escort, kind of had a reverse effect on how stale escort missions can actually be. And since we couldn't get multiple weapons in time, We decided to try and make the one weapon we could have look and feel pretty good. Along with the added effects the programmer designed for the shield, gun and screen it was starting to look like something interesting.

Of course by the end of it we were both pretty damn exausted, I was so tired by the end of it i could even answer basic questions properly which is why the map has probably got some noticeable flaws.

But more importantly i was looking forward to this as a good exercise for our collaborating skills. When it comes to videogame development we but heads on half of the things we want for our game so it was pretty refreshing for once to put something together we both liked. Even if it meant we we're a bit grumpy in the end.

I think it definitely sharpened our dev skills a bit more in the end and hopefully the next one will just be as much as a fun mess lol.
